I am glad that Baldur's Gate 3 is finally reminding normies what an actual RPG looks like. Its not Assassin's Creed grindy microtransaction filled garbage and its not Japanese action games erroneously referred to as J"RPG". I am hopeful for the future of RPGs, bros. The first time since decades. I hope BG3 beats Starfield.

Baldur's Gate 3 is the video game experience of a lifetime. Real gamers need to stop wasting their time on games masquerading as RPGs, like Zelda and Final Fantasy and spend your hard earned money on a game like Baldur's Gate 3, a title that ups your gamer cred.

    Remember to purchase Baldur's Gate 3 or you can't call yourself a hardcore gamer. Baldur's Gate 3 isn't just a game, it's a lifestyle.

That's okay, if it's interactive discussion. It's an RPG after all.

      True believers.

      >an actual RPG
      >feel like a movie, when you watch 15 min of discussions then fight for 5 min then again talking for 10
      haha

As a huge fan of actual RPGs like Arcanum, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Planescape, Pathfinder etc, I think BG3 is absolute trash and it reminds me more of Dragon Age: Inquisition than of any classic cRPGs.

why can't you guys just be upset over a game succeeding like you always are?

Please do not be upset. Join us in dedicating our life to Baldur's Gate 3. Recognizing its beauty.

Role-playing is not exclusively combat, brainlet. The dialogue in BG3 is all part of the role-play.
morons like you are the reason why RPG became a meaningless buzzword genre.

early RPGs (both digital & physical) were always about combat mechanics first.
Idiot nu-fans like yourself have transformed the genre into the Marvel-tier improv-theater slop that it is today with 5th edition. Thankfully the OSR movement has been busy returning to tradition, so there is hope left for the hobby.

RPGs are story-driven. All of them. East and west. If you don't like "discussions", then RPGs aren't for you. Go play your twitchy fighting or sportsball game.

His take falls more in line with the what an RPG originally was. Pen and paper d20. The first video game RPG's were trying to emulate that.

D&D revolves heavily around interaction and dialogue. What do you think a Deception check is?

                >telltale games are RPGs because they have le dialogue options!
                after you

Baldur's Gate has both dialogue options and stats, as it should. It is at the end of the day Dungeons and Dragons, an old-school roleplaying game, you know, the thing older RPG's tried to emulate in the first place. Telltale games aren't RPG's. Elden Ring barely passes as an RPG (yet it still does) since at least it lets you affect the world around you but it's dishonest to act like it's a proper RPG. Western RPG's are the true successors whilw JPRG's delve too much into autistic stat frickery

                Anonymous

True. BG could be called a true RPG. I still think I prefer JRPG's, even though the RPG moniker is dubious, and the games are more so just turn based strategy with an epic story (or at least they try)

Do you not realise when you attack something in an RPG you're rolling dice with an RNG? It can be to see if you hit, if you penetrate armor, or how much damage you do. That's how d20 works.

I think there's a decent argument there. Original RPG's were dialogue choice, stats, and dice rolls.

If we consider a game an RPG because stats alone, then why not dialogue choices alone?

                Anonymous

My point is that an RPG game doesn't need to be dialogue heavy, unlike the original post in the reply chain claims.

                Anonymous

That's fair, but I still think in order to be considered a true RPG, you need the dialogue, the dice, and the stats. Otherwise, you just have RPG elements. Which is fine. JRPG's are still my favorite, but not really "true" RPG's.

Why is everyone so fricking horny in this game? I made the ugliest character possible and out of fricking nowhere, every party member has already stated that they want to frick me, and I'm still in act 1.

Played the first two hours or so. It's okay, but I liked Underrail and D:OS more. They felt more tactical, while this one feels way more straightforward in its encounter design, where the positioning barely matters. Almost like a JRPG. Hopefully this changes as the game goes along.

I'm a massive JRPG gay and I love BG3 but I don't see at all how it would ruin JRPGs for you. they're totally different genres with different strengths and weaknesses. I like the choices and freedom in BG3 and the creativity in combat. I also love how streamlined, fast (in modern JRPGs) and well balanced modern JRPGs are. i like it that the encounters can be more easily balanced around the player because there's not full freedom, in good JRPGs bosses are always just challenging enough to be fun without forcing you to constantly reload. I like all the different ways JRPGs implement customization, I like their art styles and their more emotional stories.

I totally get it if some CRPG gay hates JRPGs because yes, they're more simple., they're more repetitive and so on.

but I personally like both. anyone else?
