I am glad that Baldur's Gate 3 is finally reminding normies what an actual RPG looks like. Its not Assassin's Creed grindy microtransaction filled garbage and its not Japanese action games erroneously referred to as J"RPG". I am hopeful for the future of RPGs, bros. The first time since decades. I hope BG3 beats Starfield.

Baldur's Gate 3 is the video game experience of a lifetime. Real gamers need to stop wasting their time on games masquerading as RPGs, like Zelda and Final Fantasy and spend your hard earned money on a game like Baldur's Gate 3, a title that ups your gamer cred.
Remember to purchase Baldur's Gate 3 or you can't call yourself a hardcore gamer. Baldur's Gate 3 isn't just a game, it's a lifestyle.
Nobody even think zelda is an RPG you stupid homosexual
very organic post, sir
True believers.
Please do not be upset. Join us in dedicating our life to Baldur's Gate 3. Recognizing its beauty.
>an actual RPG
>feel like a movie, when you watch 15 min of discussions then fight for 5 min then again talking for 10
haha
That's okay, if it's interactive discussion. It's an RPG after all.
Role-playing is not exclusively combat, brainlet. The dialogue in BG3 is all part of the role-play.
morons like you are the reason why RPG became a meaningless buzzword genre.
early RPGs (both digital & physical) were always about combat mechanics first.
Idiot nu-fans like yourself have transformed the genre into the Marvel-tier improv-theater slop that it is today with 5th edition. Thankfully the OSR movement has been busy returning to tradition, so there is hope left for the hobby.
RPGs are story-driven. All of them. East and west. If you don't like "discussions", then RPGs aren't for you. Go play your twitchy fighting or sportsball game.
>Story-driven
You're the same kind of homosexual that thinks that one Musical, choose-your-own-adventure TellTale trash is an RPG, aren't you?
Wrong. Just look at Elden Ring. RPGs don't have to be dialogue heavy.
>RPGs don't have to be dialogue heavy.
Then they aren't RPGs.
>hurr durr RPG = dialogue
You're actually the biggest fricking homosexual I've ever talked to
>his opinion is bad
His take falls more in line with the what an RPG originally was. Pen and paper d20. The first video game RPG's were trying to emulate that.
Originally RPGs were stories you and your friends came up with, and you made up the dialogue yourself. Stop being moronic.
>Originally RPGs were stories you and your friends came up with, and you made up the dialogue yourself. Stop being moronic.
You mean like dungeons and dragons? The example I literally just used.
DnD provides a setting with rules on progression and character builds. Not dialogue.
Sure it does. You never played a module?
D&D revolves heavily around interaction and dialogue. What do you think a Deception check is?
Baldur's Gate has both dialogue options and stats, as it should. It is at the end of the day Dungeons and Dragons, an old-school roleplaying game, you know, the thing older RPG's tried to emulate in the first place. Telltale games aren't RPG's. Elden Ring barely passes as an RPG (yet it still does) since at least it lets you affect the world around you but it's dishonest to act like it's a proper RPG. Western RPG's are the true successors whilw JPRG's delve too much into autistic stat frickery
True. BG could be called a true RPG. I still think I prefer JRPG's, even though the RPG moniker is dubious, and the games are more so just turn based strategy with an epic story (or at least they try)
what role are you playing if you don't have any say in what your character says or does
if having stat-based progression is enough to call a game an rpg then by definition warframe and destiny 2 are rpgs
literally the entire dungeon crawler subgenre disagrees.
Dark souls is more so an action game with rpg elements. Less dice rolls, more hitting O to dodge at the right time. You're rolling yourself. Not dice.
>It's less of an RPG because of some made up shit I came up with in my head
Do you not realise when you attack something in an RPG you're rolling dice with an RNG? It can be to see if you hit, if you penetrate armor, or how much damage you do. That's how d20 works.
>dice rolling
I'm not talking to you
You make it up idiot, just like every rpg game in existence
You literally replied to me in your post before this one. You kinda were
>ER is an RPG
slit your fricking wrists you dumbfrick Black personc**t
>telltale games are RPGs because they have le dialogue options!
after you
false equivalency and NTA, slit your wrists now frickhead
>hurr durr false equivalence because I said so
ER is an RPG. cope and seethe, dialogue cuck.
Behold, an RPG
Calm down homie, you're beginning to sound like Barneygay. Take a deep breath.
I think there's a decent argument there. Original RPG's were dialogue choice, stats, and dice rolls.
If we consider a game an RPG because stats alone, then why not dialogue choices alone?
My point is that an RPG game doesn't need to be dialogue heavy, unlike the original post in the reply chain claims.
That's fair, but I still think in order to be considered a true RPG, you need the dialogue, the dice, and the stats. Otherwise, you just have RPG elements. Which is fine. JRPG's are still my favorite, but not really "true" RPG's.
Sex sells.
As a huge fan of actual RPGs like Arcanum, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Planescape, Pathfinder etc, I think BG3 is absolute trash and it reminds me more of Dragon Age: Inquisition than of any classic cRPGs.
this, would rather play FF5 for the 100th time with a funny job line up
why can't you guys just be upset over a game succeeding like you always are?
So much this, people need to stop wasting their money on Jap crap and purchase Baldur's Gate 3 immediately
BG3 is just Larian digging up the corpse of one of gaming's greatest franchises and using it for branding.
Frick them.
JRPGs are not really RPGs but adventure games
It's only popular cause of nudity, same as happened with conan exiles
Nice thread homosexuals
Played the first two hours or so. It's okay, but I liked Underrail and D:OS more. They felt more tactical, while this one feels way more straightforward in its encounter design, where the positioning barely matters. Almost like a JRPG. Hopefully this changes as the game goes along.
Forgot to mention, I'm kinda tempted to save BG3 for later and try either JA2 or Wasteland 3 instead.
Kiseki is an awful series btw.
said no one ever
>ITT: BG3 haters try to start shit between BG3 fans and JRPG fans
I like good JRPGs
I don't like homies in a row
That was the defining characteristic of JRPG's before people started using the acronym to describe any rpg from Japan.
I'll stick to JRPGs. thanks.
>100 hours of cutscenes
Imma pass
BG is for normies, all BG3 has done is reminded me that RPGs are cancer for irredeemable morons.
your posts are always bad
JRPG fan here. My PC can't run beargate. I don't play on PC much. Am I missing out? I tried pillars of eternity and kingmaker, but I thought they were boring as hell.
You aren't really missing anything, BG3 is like Dragon Commander, the gameplay is hot trash and the best part dialogues you can watch on youtube.
The gameplay itself looked a bit like divinity, which I wasn't that big into.
So true. The gatekeeping part of my brain is being kept in check by the "wow for once normies are actually playing a video game" part.
JRPG devs be like
>im gonna put a european guy as the protagonist
what a bunch of cucks
it's a good game, pretty janky and buggy, and some QoL would be great, but overall it's a great experience with a lot of love of soul
the fact that everyone it's claiming this game as the second coming of christ and goty 10/10 really speaks how terrible videogames nowadays are
a bit of effort and your game is already GOTY, before 2010s, the majority of games had this care and dedication put into it
>reminding normies what an actual RPG
WEGs and shitty dating sims have been around since forever anon
because baldurs gate started with 3 right?
>had to make this thread because JRPGchads don't give a shit about WRPGs
lmao loser
I'm a massive JRPG gay and I love BG3 but I don't see at all how it would ruin JRPGs for you. they're totally different genres with different strengths and weaknesses. I like the choices and freedom in BG3 and the creativity in combat. I also love how streamlined, fast (in modern JRPGs) and well balanced modern JRPGs are. i like it that the encounters can be more easily balanced around the player because there's not full freedom, in good JRPGs bosses are always just challenging enough to be fun without forcing you to constantly reload. I like all the different ways JRPGs implement customization, I like their art styles and their more emotional stories.
I totally get it if some CRPG gay hates JRPGs because yes, they're more simple., they're more repetitive and so on.
but I personally like both. anyone else?
Its a meme about how JRPGs aren't actually RPGs.
>anyone else?
I doubt it. I do like some JRPGs, but only those that are difficult and highly experimental.
It makes sense that always sunny trannies would shill for Baldur's Gate
Why is everyone so fricking horny in this game? I made the ugliest character possible and out of fricking nowhere, every party member has already stated that they want to frick me, and I'm still in act 1.
Even the narrator constantly has a sultry, horny voice, even though she is describing the most vile, brutal things sometimes.
Is it possible to romance Minsc and have him suck my dick?
>an actual RPG
No. No. You frick off right now and have a nice day. Every single companion wanting to hardcore frick you because you exchanged 2 seconds of pleasantries and writing on the level of a Marvel-obsessed middle school boy are not qualities of a "real RPG"
