This is one of the worst things about these videos. Just endless word diarrhea repeating the same shit over and over for hours.
I think there are many factors at play as to why this format became popular. One is that millenials and zoomers never learned how to write. In school they were taught to vomit out as much as they could in response to a question in hopes of getting something at least half right to raise their score. Essentially, they are taught for a decade and a half that more is more and are never incentivized to be concise.
The second reason those videos get a pass or are even liked is because nobody is actually watching them. They're in podcast territory where people just play them in the background while they do something else. The equivalent of leaving the TV on just to have some noise in an otherwise quite house. The content of the noise could be anything as long as it isn't actually grating or distracting.
This is the problem with them and a lot of shit online. Need to appeal to the most people, so you have shit like >This game which spawned a franchise with 3+ games in dev right now over a decade later >Unsung
Or >Literally first page google results 'unknown game'
I want them to have fricking substance, now they're all about political shit or literal nonsensical garbage >How Reddit Fortress 2 caused the Brony Community to Come Together after 9/11
Then stop watching them.
What, you want them to stop being made? Get real.
Whos forcing you to watch them?
So just don't watch them? what's with rightards demanding that things they don't like shouldn't exist instead of just ignoring it and focusing on the stuff they do like?
is it just bitterness?
People don't need to watch something to call it shit.
I didn't need to watch morbius to know it was a bad film, and I don't need to watch your 20 hour essays to know they are poorly written.
I enjoyed watching them for a little while, but over time, I began to notice the incorrect uses of words, the omitted information, and other little hints that the people who make these things aren't actually people you should be listening to.
The most painful one I ever forced myself to watch was one about some homosexual talking about Classic Doom, how he goes all emotional and crying like a little b***h. I think I only made it 10 minutes into the 2-3 hour shitfest.
I found a 8 hour retrospective on pokemon mystery dungeon. And the dude making the video sounds like the lead singer from the B-52's. I made it like 10 minutes into it before I had to turn it off because my sides hurt.
I used to like Liam Triforce but all his videos are way too emotional. The dude always goes into a sob story about how the game had a profound impact in his childhood and how it helped him in difficult times. I get it if one or two games have this impact on you, but not every single one to the point of dedicating 40% of your video on that.
So just don't watch them? what's with rightards demanding that things they don't like shouldn't exist instead of just ignoring it and focusing on the stuff they do like?
is it just bitterness?
>sets up punchline >small pause >screen cuts to black >moves away from the mic slightly and deliverys painfully unfunny punchline while talking much faster than the rest of the video

I'm not clicking that shit
You are not THAT entertaining
Its just asmr for nostalgic nerds to justify hours they wasted playing vidya with "omg so deep ludokino" mental masturbation
videogames are a waste of time and a guilty pleasure and should stay that way
>Noah Caldwell Gervais
I really like how he doesn't just do rote reviews but talks about themes, what the game makes him feel, personal anecdotes the game reminds him of, etc. The others feel like they're just following a guideline.
Ye. I like Ifinishedavideogame a bit better because he does the same but has a bit of a documentarian approach. He goes in depth on a lot of the production history and even includes footage and photos from the dev studio along with gameplay video.
If you watch them for entertainment you are a fool, most of them are completely uninteresting videos made by someone that isn't at all entertaining.
You watch them to sleep. It's like a boring highschool lecture, you just pass out immediately.
im tired of people having an aneurysm when a video is longer than 6 minutes
yes the video is 6 hours long ahahhaha very weird we dont need to be told for the 100th time homie
>Retells the plot of the game and calls it an essay/ analysis/ deep dive.
90% of these homosexuals do this and they don't even know they're doing it, they genuinely think because of the length of their videos they're making an analysis when their video amounts to retelling the plot of the game.
Speed/challenge running is to white kids what basketball and rap are to black kids. They think they should be doing this instead of practicing their calculus exercises
I'm sure at this point Pat is doing this to piss people off, he posts here and he used to post on 8chn vee so he's sometimes motivated I'm almost certain by the need to shitpost.
The sleeping without a video on for me is a real problem, I know I'm wasting electricity, even setting up timers for my PC to shut down, but I wake up and can't sleep well if I don't have the white noise of a youtube video on.
FRICK
I have the opposite problem. I can't watch anything like anime anymore if I'm not eating. As soon as the food is done I pause and start browsing Ganker. Might finish the episode next meal.
Youtube is being a dickhead for me lately, it wouldn't work unless I disabled my adblock. I cannot fricking stand advertisements it's why I refuse to watch television. Give me alternatives to watch, at the moment I'm browsing /wsg/ for videos.
i am tired of 90% of youtube videos being straight cookie-cutter essays/breakdowns/whatever of Thing that last for 11-15 minutes when they could've easily been 5 minutes
i am tired of everyone trying to be a career youtuber
Aren't you just tired of having a bulge in your back pocket from one of those old, leather, bulky wallets. Well the ridge wallet has you covered. With the ridge wallet it's easy to carry and it won't have that bulge in your back pocket. Ridge wallet comes in many colors with carbon fiber and more. It is the 1 wallet, also you can try a wallet for 45 days and if you don't like it you can get your money back free. Go down and use code "LINUS" for 10% off when you purchase a Ridge Wallet.
they are about to lose a lot of money and viewers if they really think people will follow these rules

I've already stopped watching Youtube, it's weird because I feel like an addict coming off a drug not having Youtube, my playlists and subbed videos that I would go to everyday, but I'm not watching something with forced ads. Frick that right off.
>video about some peepeepoopoo scary creepypasta man in some toddler video game >royalty free creepy ambient plays (that you recognize from some shitty unity and roblox games)
>that interrogation video with the adhd autist >IM USING REVERSE PSYCHOLOGY TO MAKE YOU LOOK LIKE THE LUNATIC >"hey did you know i can dislocate my wrist" "please dont do that" >"who gives a rats ass what the judge thinks" "I do I have to work with him" "so you have to kiss his ass?"
We need to return to being able to make your case about something in 15 minutes or less. These video essays are fine as white noise while doing something else but I'm rarely engaged thoughtfully about anything they have to say. And the longer they are, the more likely it is just to be word salad made by an autistic neet living off of my taxpayer dollars.
I agree
Then don't watch them
>GEE it really smells like shit in here
>lol just don't smell it moron
So leave the room
NO you leave the room.
I live here
Bro, how could you say that? They're entertaining to watch.
I have seen like 3 new ones this week about how Portal 1 is empty and alone and liminal and makes them go insane
You have autism
I'd like to see some more obscure titles dissected. All these 1-2hr OoT retrospectives don't say anything new.
how the frick can you actually watch that garbage. seriously, I'm dying to know
I like to watch them
With my eyes usually, but often the ears suffice. You need internet connection and a functioning device too.
Which video game essays are good? Hard mode: table of contents is present for 4+ hour essays
Patrician's 20 hours skyrim sumerian epic
This is one of the worst things about these videos. Just endless word diarrhea repeating the same shit over and over for hours.

dilate shill
You are arguing with actual children anon, don't waste your time.
how are they wrong though?
whats stopping you from just not watching it?
People don't need to watch something to call it shit.
I didn't need to watch morbius to know it was a bad film, and I don't need to watch your 20 hour essays to know they are poorly written.
never said that
I'm asking why people click on them and then complain that they clicked on it
So then do something about it.
Oh, wait, you can't.
morons.
>We need to talk about this. Why is nobody talking about this? Ok guys, there's just SO much to unpack here. And that's a good thing!
Then stop watching them.
What, you want them to stop being made? Get real.
Boy oh boy I sure do love halfwits reading a wikipedia article over shitty music and bad editing,
Whos forcing you to watch them?
I enjoyed watching them for a little while, but over time, I began to notice the incorrect uses of words, the omitted information, and other little hints that the people who make these things aren't actually people you should be listening to.
you upset alot of people op
>come to a discussion board
>"haha people are discussing!"
discussing how frothing with rage you are
Hi OP
Thanks
I like Speedrun timelines videos
Stuff like that
We're stuck with effeminate midwits reading Wikipedia until the next world war.

Be honest with me Ganker, are bido gayms a big deal?

>1/3 of the video game essay is about explaining the game
I Guess it's fine if it's some obscure PS2 game who flopped and killed the studio, but they do that shit to most popular shit too
So just don't watch them? what's with rightards demanding that things they don't like shouldn't exist instead of just ignoring it and focusing on the stuff they do like?
is it just bitterness?
it's fun to be angry
>this is my video on the Mario 64 iceberg, EXPLAINED™

>the DEFINITIVE, BIGGEST, DEEPEST, Elder Scrolls iceberg explained!

>sets up punchline

But people do watch those
It's still baffling to me that people actually give a shit about speed running.
No, no they do not. They put it in the background like people do with TV's so they feel less lonely.
That's different. I mean specifically someone's opinions on games. Like 'What [so and so game] does right' and it's 3-4 hours long. I do not care
Background noise for dogs.
Its just asmr for nostalgic nerds to justify hours they wasted playing vidya with "omg so deep ludokino" mental masturbation

Fredrik Knudsen has a 6+ hour EVE online video coming out in the near future. Whole history of the game and the politics.
I'll gladly take essays over this shit
These are shorts and they're over in less than a minute.
Jacob Geller can be incredibly pretentious but I like most of his videos regardless.
he deserves a beating for that horrendous fricking LEGO beard alone.
I don't mind it, although I will agree that it looks bad.

That's fair. I'm tired of making them, too.
What can patriciantv possibly have to say for 20 hours
then stop watching them
>The Jimbo Scrimblo speedrun that defied Capitalism

90% of these homosexuals do this and they don't even know they're doing it, they genuinely think because of the length of their videos they're making an analysis when their video amounts to retelling the plot of the game.
Too bad, zoomers love this shit.
You WILL get 12 hour reviews for a 7 hour game, and you WILL get recommended them by the algorithm constantly.
then just hit the "don't recommend channel" button
the only people who make you watch this garbage is you
but you are literally the only moron here
just stop watching them and they dont get recommended to you
I will never watch these shit videos.
This one is like a parody
Speed/challenge running is to white kids what basketball and rap are to black kids. They think they should be doing this instead of practicing their calculus exercises
I like listening to them during my drives to and from work but it's too difficult to find actual interesting ones instead of boring plot recaps.
You thought long form video game essays were bad?
Here, have a podcast ABOUT long form video game essays:
I'm sure at this point Pat is doing this to piss people off, he posts here and he used to post on 8chn vee so he's sometimes motivated I'm almost certain by the need to shitpost.
Yeah, I can tell. His sense of humour and writing in his vids is dogshit.
It's definetly for the meme, but his workstreams (it's just a reaction stream with a fancy name btw) are entertaining enough.
How can you guys eat without watching youtube? Fr fr
guilty
Unironically how can I start eating and sleeping without youtube again?
watch real shows again. your brain has rotted from instant gratification youtube offers. rewire it

youre better off watching paint dry to fix your attention span

Not one person noticed that they inflate the runtime to show more more ads so they get more money.
probably because everyone just uses ad block and ad skippers
You're stealing money from small content creators
yea
Good
That shit ain't small by no means, sod off.
And now for todays sponsor... Ridge Wallet!
(Looks directly into the camera and grins.)

Because these videos are made for zoomers who only play currentthing games
Zoomers don't even play games. They're just secondaries like girls who cosplay
>Video essay about some creepy or disturbing thing in a game
>Has lofi hip hop radio beats to relax/study too
>Throughout the ENTIRE VIDEO
