        Where did I mention mods?
This game is buggy as frick even fully patched. PC has unofficial patches that fix a ton of additional shit. And if something is broken, you can't use console commands to fix it (ironically).

Exactly. Plus, the game crashing and corrupting your save if you save while in an exterior cell.

this is the type of person who advocates and welcomes alien galactic bombarment of the earth because "man was SUPPOSED to live in mudhuts, its the original experience"

or to be less hypertrophic, he thinks the original experience of playing a videogame is valuable above anything might be a convenience, like the game actually working. same type of deal with AV autists who buy $14000 cables to play games on TVs that were $40 on release

      It’s complicated.
Oblivion on 360 was fine, and now with back compat its pretty solid, runs at like 1440p and locked 60fps. No mods obviously, but frankly the Oblivion mod scene sucks.

Skyrim was a bit shit on 360 at launch, not as bad as PS3 obviously, but the XB1 version runs great on the series consoles, locked 60fps high res all that jam. Special edition is quite nice, even on consoles it looks better than it did on ultra settings on a PC in 2011. You do actually get mods as well, not every one obviously since they need to be uploaded for the Xbox, but in my opinion it’s more than enough, all the best shit is on there.

Now, Morrowind. This also has back compat support, runs at 4K60 or close to it (though still 4:3), but the problems with toe original Xbox version are unfortunately deeper than just performance. The draw distance is still limited to the comically bad original console version, where you have N64 tier fog everywhere you look, all the textures are compressed to hell, and the gamepad controls for menus etc are really half baked. It doesn’t help that they do a weird blurry upscale of the UI elements to make them big enough to swell which clashes terribly with the high res rendering of everything else. Morrowind also frankly needs mods to be approachable to a new player in 2023, it’s a serious technical step back from Oblivion and Skyrim which I think a kid today could hop into vanilla and be pretty happy. Console has no mods, of course. You really should just go for OpenMW or something, a toaster can play it, confirmed by the fact my decade old Mac which isn’t even supported by Apple runs it beautifully at 2560x1600.

You probably want to have some magic capabilites, because that is 70% of the fun from Morrowind.

      Anonymous

Agreed, if you really don't want to play a mer, play breton, you get some nice magic bonuses to buff yourself if you want to do combat as well as some good offensive magic bonuses too

Pretty much this. There's no reason not to include magic in your character. You can make an hybrid or go full mage, but if you don't go for it in some way you'll miss the best part of the game.
Playing as a sneaky character can be fun to play the stealth related quests but it gets old once you finish those

      >Alchemy
Must have, unless the idea of picking flowers and mushrooms and making potions out of them bores you to death.
      >Alteration
One of the most useful schools, due to flying, lockpicking, water walking/breathing, magic shield, etc
      >Conjuration
Summon daedric creatures and weapons, nuff said (especially fun with the exploit that makes summoned creatures permanent)
      >Destruction
      Sparks n flames n shit.
      >Enchant
Useless. Just pay Galbedir to do it for you.
      >Illusion
Paralysis is decent (when it works), but apart from that useless. Nobody has EVER used shit like Calm, Demoralize, Rally, Frenzy, etc.
      >Mysticism
Recall and Intervention are great, but you can usually find enough scrolls or enchanted items for those, making the skill itself mostly useless.
      >Restoration
Healing with potions is generally more convenient, although this way you can also heal others.
      >Unarmored
Not exactly a magic skill, but not carrying armor does make you quicker. (Recommended with Shield and/or Sanctuary spells.)

what's the point of that stupid list?
        You can max everything anyway
also you can max all your stats

OP look at this strategy how to max your stats
It's easy to figure it out by yourself, but you will waste a few hours because once you figure it out you will want to reroll
When you lvl up, you gotta put always a point in luck and only level up when you have a +5 to two attributes
To accomplish this you have to create a character which has all attributes as major/minor skills and also all attributes as non minor/major skills
You need to spread it out
This way you can choose to level up whatever skills you want and if you don't have enough points for +5 just train a non minor/major skill to get it before you rest

Stfu c**t, not everyone spends 40 months in-game selling stolen glass armor to Mudcrab Merchant every playthrough. Also high Enchant is important for charges anyways.

Based console player. "Getting stuck" is a skill issue. "Bugs" are skill issues. Needing a console for ANYTHING is a skill issue. And the Boots of Blinding Speed make you miss every good cave. OP play a high elf magic user with your major and minor skills of choice, free every slave you can on your travels, and don't kill Ordinators just to sell their armor to Creeper.

I honestly can't imagine playing this game without OpenMW past the year 2016. The only reason not to use it is if you're too stupid to figure out how to use old morrowind mods on it

It just looks worse. It's got weird distant land implementation, and ugly lighting that doesn't fit the mood. GOG version plus MGEXE is all that's needed. And even MGEXE needs plenty of shit turned off.
