I cant bring myself to continue this game. What am I not seeing here? It is so boring even the cutscenes make me just want to skip them to just replay another walking simulator mission...

I just finished it yesterday. I kinda feel bad for initially dismissing it when it came out, it's not the world altering magnum opus that Kojima sold it as, but it is a genuinely great Kojima game and the first truly complete game he's made since MGS3. The fun in the game is setting up difficult hikes, it's not a walking simulator like we call them but a literal sim game about hiking. The very first map of the game is kinda bland at the beginning of the game anyway, the return was probably my favorite mission in the game, but when you get to the second one it gets much better and the mountains are genuinely great levels.

Storywise Amalie/Higgs/EE storyline is hit and miss, but the Cliff/Sam/Lou storyline is really compelling.

I find all moviegame walking simulators to be unplayable. This includes Death Stranding, RDR2, FFVIIR, Metro Exodus, Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village.
I absolutely loathe the new AAA ultra-simplified design where there's 1 fricking action button and all you do is slow walk through story corridors and occasionally hit said button when prompted. Its first person view that constantly takes control away from the player, while the rest of the time you're passively watching cutscenes. I HATE THIS TREND SO MUCH ITS NOT A GAME FFS

I'd rather play dead end anime coomer games than this unplayable God of War fisher price garbage

Clearly it's not a game for you.
I found it extremely addicting. I'm glad that I got to play it during the worst Corona lockdowns, as it allowed me to play it a good 10-12 hours a day, nonstop.

The atmosphere is stellar, visuals gorgeous, OST a banger, and the gameplay varies from top-chill Zen trecking to butt-clenching spooky.
It really kinda reminds me of classic Resident Evil 1 in that sense, having to plan your routes and inventory and then improvise on the go. Naturally the environmental challenges are a very intriguing element on their own, and I can't quite think of any other game sans BotW that would utilize their world in similar manner.

The story is simply alright IMO, but it's the sub-text and how the game uses its gameplay to deliver the message that really elevates it to a state of art. It honestly feels damn good to work together with the community and finish long stretches of structures in a one go.

My only real criticism would be how quickly the advanced gear and weapons diminish all resemblance of challenge, plus the final story quests are clearly rushed thanks to the Sony's tampering.

I got a swell 160 hours out of my first playthrough alone, and I didn't even max / platinum anything. Definitely will be revisiting this gem one of these days.

I do agree 100%, but I also do not consider Death Stranding to belong on that list.
This is exactly the sort of early-00's innocent innovative game design the industry has longed for decades now.

It's alright if you didn't like Death Stranding, some people just have bad taste.

i pirated it 2 weeks ago, and absolutely fell in love with it in the first 10 minutes.
      >the story, sound, music, graphics, aesthetics and general feel of comfy-ness

it sucked me in for 60 hours.
after i finished it, i bought the original on steam and im replaying it right now with all the online perks.

      its even better now.

Unironically I think the best parts was when someone's random ass structure or leftover garbage was clutch to helping you complete a mission.

It just feels weird when you connect a city and come out of the bunker to see bridges and shit all over where there were none just a moment before

              Anonymous

well it kinda makes sense, if we got all these bridges, zip lines etc before we even connected to the region it would make it way too easy.

You need to be in a specific mindset when you play this game. Don't expect anything at all. When I played this game I was pretty stressed out with a project and just wanted to play something that doesn't require much thought or skill and this game was just perfect.
You're given tasks and checklists you cross out, plan for your task and consider future missions. Building roads and creating your own zipline network was very fulfilling. The entire experience was very calming and the closest comparison for me is animal crossing.

yeah, it just calms me the frick down after a stressful day at work.

Fun things are fun anon. I played the game too much, i know it too well.
You should use the delivery requests even you don't need anything, if anyone ever checks that tab they might get a kick out of fulfilling your order. They should have build that system up. It makes so much sense, players delivering to players delivering now that's connection.

I swear if anyone replies with an order i'll unearth my boots and deliver it anywhere on the map according to specs, anything you can think of.

Oh shut the frick up moron.

he's right though, I totally dismissed the game because of Kojima's "marketing" and hollywood stars involved

There must be a button to enter camera mod then fiddle around in there, you'll figure it out. It's one of the touchpad sides on PS.

      >I cant bring myself to continue this game.
Don't force yourself. It's of those games were the statement "not for everyone" fits perfectly. To enjoy Death Stranding you even have to be in the right mood and mindset. I tried to play it 3 times, it wasn't until the 3rd time that I started to enjoy it. The first 2 tries I thought it was literal dogshit. I still don't feel like it's a great game despite finally finishing it but it's a nice unique experience.

      >moviegame walking simulators
      >FFVIIR
This is how you know someone is spewing buzzwords to describe games when all he wants to say is

Is the game better offline? Other people randomly being able to effect my world seems weird and unbalanced.

online is easier(although the game is easy even on hardest) but you get the feeling of communty effort, offline is more moody. I recommend exploring the region story missions offline and activating online only for sidequest grinding

Leave it online, the whole point of the game is that other people are going around making deliveries as well, without it the world just stays empty. There are specific moments in the game where you'll want to be online as well, particularly towards the end.

To be fair, Kojima's ego made it really hard to give the game a fair chance. It is a good game though, like a weird-ass PS2 game given a massive AAA budget.

Neither of fricking fun or interesting and today, there not much to say about the game in the end. It's nice. Play it.

It's Kojima being an arrogant prick and keeping you hostage. The game would be a solid 7/10 if 70% of it would be cut. There are genuine great moments but they are so few and far in between that it's just not worth it. I used a trainer for infinite suit and vehicle batteries and super speed just to finish the game under 30 hours and I will never touch the game again. MGSV suffered from the exact same problem.
