I can't get over what an epic combination of degeneracy and toxic masculinity this game turned out to be.

It's widely considered as a great game and will be considered a classic. People are hyped for the DLC and there is a big active modding community.
Very positive on Steam, 86% on metacritic.
The only thing bad about the game was its rough release. A game not living up to the moronic hype is not something rare.

Don't forget you live in a bubble of contrarianism here.

      >Don't forget you live in a bubble of contrarianism here.
yeah, but I still played it myself and there was almost nothing to write home about
it could be they way I played it but almost every stage beyond the opening story missions felt subpar
I'm mostly focusing on 3 points: enemies, weapons and stealth
Enemy AI was borderline moronic, as in, you could be fighting a humanoid boss and simply standing behind a pillar would make it go braindead and stop responding
I remember distinctly the part at the mall where, after going loud, every enemy would just take cover in the geometry on the ground floor while I was on the second looking down at them
never moved from there regardless of what I did
Bosses were almost entirely bullet sponges and/or dodge builds that would just not allow you to hit them

Stealth was so surface level, I'm convinced I was doing something wrong or they didn't actually intend you to do certain levels quiet

Weapons and most of the equipment were underwhelming at best
I'm really not a fan of the same-weapon different-rarity system since it feels boring and tedious
once in a while you'd get a unique design of a weapon, only to have it be outclassed 10 minutes later by something painfully mundane (melee weapons suffered especially from that iirc with normal knifes outdamaging swords, clubs etc)

I agree the weapon ranking system needs a complete revamp. Why would weapons manufactured in the future have so much variability in power output? The endgame should have felt like an endgame, finally picking up all those cool military-grade guns you've been hearing about. Just make them rarer. Spending your first 10 levels barely scraping by with one-shot plastic guns would have been an experience

Why the hell did they make V’s male voice actor stop with the Jesse Pinkman voice? It was perfect.

The release wasn't even that bad if you had a decent PC. Even on a fairly modest PC I got a steady >60fps on medium and only ever had like one bug that required reloading a save. It was just your typical "fell through the world" glitch.
The big problem was the 8th gen consoles that were just too potato for the game. It never should have been released in them.
Of course it didn't help that it came out right when the whole global economy and supply chain was falling apart from coofid, so nobody could find or afford new hardware.

Meh, it was great but not fantastic.
I 100%'d the achievements and played for about 120 hours total through 3 thorough playthroughs.
What I liked most was the atmosphere and graphics/aesthetic, it really nails a lot of places in the same way Skyrim did.
