These are pretty good answers, but at least both of those games are decent, and have had undeniable influences on the industry. Skyrim is painfully average at best.
Skyrim has had much more of an undeniable influence on the industry than either of those games. It’s a cultural phenomenon. Even boomers who don’t play games know what Skyrim is. You don’t reach that level of stardom by being “painfully average”.

Skyrim is like because it's one a kind of game. The closest games are FO3 and NV.
Oblivion is close, but has broken level scaling, unappealing art style and extremely floaty controls.
FO4 turned into looter shooter.
Starfield is FO4 but even worse without stuff people like Bethesda games, like open world with actual stuff to explore.
No one pretends it's perfect or that it was perfect even on launch.

Being part of the series doesn't make it exactly the same as the other games.
Skyrim just hit acceptable levels of the most relevant stuff that doesn't put players away, while having some really strong points, like open world with stuff to explore and interact, atmosphere, music, with plenty of stuff to do in the game to keep the player invested for dozens of hours.

Yes but couldn't they have made the characters more handsome and sexy? It took dozens of mods to make the girls look like actual girls instead of some morphed ogres.

If not for everything that came out after Skyrim I would actually have respect for Bethesda.
