Starcraft 2 ruined Starcraft. The only good bit was DeLancie.

I really like the vibe of Starcraft 1/BW, the frontier rebel cowboy feel was great, and played well with the cues from Aliens. I played a game in it using Leovaunt's system and enjoyed myself quite a bit, bit in the end we found the power creep and the high level of crunch to be things we didn't really gel with for more games after that first. Still had fun.

He always loved Kerrigan, moron, that's why he was determined to kill her in Brood War. There's nothing "peak" about repeating his arc in BW except turning him into a mopey pussy this time around. He even gets betrayed by Kerrigan again in HotS, but just becomes a homosexualy simp this time around.

At this point I have to assume you're either clinically moronic or never actually played the first game. He was attracted to her from their very first meeting (Kerrigan even teases him about it when she reads his mind) and Mengsk's sacrifice of her was the whole reason for his defection.

The way the dialogue went he most probably imagined fricking her, that doesn't necessarily lead to any romantic feeling. Mengsk sacrificing her was prone to push anyone involved in telling him to frick off, because that's what happens when you reveal that your supposedly most trusted men and women are used like tools and pawns to be discarded for personal gain. Love is not mentioned, it's your interpretation, me not sharing your view might upset you, but such is life. I hope you realize you sound like the ones that started saying that raynor and fenix were gay for each other because of "subtext" in their dialogue. Not every relationship in media needs to end up with people wanting to frick.

Come on now. There's also Kerrigan's line: "Jimmy, drop the knight in shining armor routine... it suits you sometimes, just not... (hushed, intimate) not now". Subtext and tone is clearly sexual/romantic. That's just an example from the primary text, a spinoff novelization of the game made it explicit. You are of course going to dig your heels in and claim that none of that counts, because you have aspergers.

You are free to read the subtext however you want, that's the nice part of media. What is less nice is your way of discussing it. You having a bad day anon?

                >he says, after admitting that Raynor at the very least wanted to frick
But fine, let's pretend there was zero romantic interest from either party for the sake of argument, are you also going to deny that Raynor cared so very fricking much for Kerrigan? Because the whole point of his arc in BW was that he was willing to go along with all the shady shit Infested Kerrigan did and look the other way while she assassinated key protoss leaders all because he was desperate to believe the woman he cared for was still in there somewhere. It wasn't until True Colors where she kills Fenix and Duke that he realizes she's an irredeemable monster now and that the only thing he can do to "save" her is put her down like the rabid beast she's become. Which is why his line at the end of True Colors is so fricking kino.

SC2 walking back the entirety of Raynor's character development throughout Brood War just to do it all again except shitty this time and turn Raynor into a spineless simp with zero agency is the exact opposite of peak, it's the low point of the whole fricking series and killed the entire franchise.

                >he says, after admitting that Raynor at the very least wanted to frick
That was more about the raynor/fenix thing, but yeah, I realize that it could be used against me. Still, kerrigan's reaction after reading raynor's mind was not exactly amused.
                >the exact opposite of peak
But that's exactly what makes it peak. He was so broken by years of alcohol, loneliness and regret that he reverted to what he wanted to be, took a chance to actually do it and became someone else in the process. That is development, not a regression. Not one to be liked, but I've seen real people do worse. Maybe that's why it's hitting home in this way for me, and I hope you won't see it yourself, even in others, but this is far from unbelievable.

                >Still, kerrigan's reaction after reading raynor's mind was not exactly amused.
So you're still going to deny that Raynor very clearly had both deep emotional feelings and lust for Kerrigan? All because it breaks your flimsy narrative of him developing feelings for her out of desperation abd depression in between games and how "peak" that is to you.
                >that's not a regression!
                >describes (and praises) a literal psychological regression
                You're really bad at this.

Also "it's peak because Raynor becomes a pathetic cuck" is not exactly a great argument. It's basically The Last Jedi's Luke all over again (or first, rather).

                >deep emotional feelings
Those may very well have been present, but were they romantic? Lusting over a hot female the first time you check her ass in a skintight suit, again, doesn't necessarily translate in romantic development.
                >You're really bad at this.
I will admit that I'm sort of struggling to find the right words, I'm not managing to explain myself well enough.
He fought side by side with kerrigan, developed mutual trust and camaraderie.
She got betrayed, he got mad.
She's back and then she kills his friends after betraying him too.
Years go by, he drinks and reminishes.
He's so broken that he ends up thinking he loved her because she was one of the few positive sources of emotion he ever had.
Clings to that so desperately he forgets the trauma from the same source.

This happens on a lower scale all the time. Is it a nice thing to see? Most of the time, hell no. But it still is development of his character. A revenge story would have been cooler, I'm not denying that.

I'm sorry about that ad hominem shit-flinging I directed at you, anon.

It's alright anon, we all have those moments.

                >Those may very well have been present, but were they romantic
Anon, when you mix a deep emotional connection with lust you get love. You can argue it was one-sided and Kerrigan never reciprocated - I think you'd have to be an idiot to argue that, but you CAN argue it - but it's completely inarguable that Raynor loved Kerrigan. He stopped just short of explicitly spelling it out on the minimap with supply depots.
                >He's so broken that he ends up thinking he loved her
You're once again ignoring the fact that he literally plunged the Koprulu Sector into chaos defending her once already. You keep downplaying just how hard he went to bat for her throughout all of BW because it breaks the narrative you've built up in your head over the last decade and a half.
                >it still is development of his character
Yes, a development we already saw him go through in BW. You can pretty much call Wings of Liberty, hell all of Starcraft 2: "We did Brood War again except Kerrigan gets redeemed this time"

                It's not peak, it's weak.

Speaking of Mengsk, he's just such a great bastard in the first game. Loses his homeworld and family, so he engineers a genocide on Tarsonis using their own stolen weapon to make it happen, and then using the entire disaster to justify his seizure of power. The secondary media has it that Kerrigan was the Ghost who killed his family, making him deserting her to a horrible death another act of magnificent bastardry. Really fell off after that, though.
