You never have to develop any actual skill because you can just build around the need to be good at the game.
It doesn't help that you can spam dodge endlessly with no penalty and your pod can always fire, even while dodging. So the risk-reward structure is functionally nonexistent as long as you can get your pod to do any meaningful damage at all, which is of course trivial to do with any old chips you find lying around. And then you can just equip healing items to automatically heal yourself if you ever frick up smashing R2 as fast as you can.

True, the Nier Automata is overrated. It's trash honestly. Widely considered to have unsatisfying gameplay. It also has a multitude of other mediocre aspects and lots of that good old Platinum jank. The game was utter filth at launch and it was patched to at least be playable yes, but the game is still quite buggy. Til this day the game not only has bugs that are simple annoyances, but also bugs that impede gameplay. Game breaking ones. So yeah, the game went from utter trash at launch, to just trash. It's a bad game overall.
