I didn't play any Resident Evil back in the day (just silent hill and really like 1-4 gameplay). So can you guys be the least biased possible and recommend if i should play the originals or the remakes? I would really prefer either all originals or all remakes since playing both would consume literally all the time for the next months that i have for gaming and the time on this earth is very limited to do that....

RE1 remake is the only one that plays like the original but better, the other remakes are downgrades. I'd say just play all the originals.
RE1 remake plays like shit compared to the original.
Moron. Die.
Play the originals. Even the RE1 Remake is made to be piss easy
If you play the originals then you're going from old to new.
If you play the remakes, you'll get a huge jump from 1 to 2 and then remain in same modern feel for 2-4 and then 5 will feel really old.
I don't have experience playing them like that but I did have it with Yakuza and it sure felt awful going to 3 after Kiwami 2.
There's no reason at all to play the originals. They are extremely boring. The Remakes are a lot more fast paced. Sure, RE3Make sucks, but RE2Make and RE4make are kino.
RE1Make shouldn't even be considered a remake, it's the exact same game it's just improved graphics so you have NO REASON to play the original at all, RE1Make was literally made like 1 year after the original came out and by the exact same people who wanted better graphics.
Old RE games also have zero horror elements. because of how ridiculous the graphics are.
At the end of the day, Fun matters more than any pathetic Elitist Ganker attitude that "old is good, new is bad".
For any entry that has a remake I'd say start with the originals, then play the remakes so that you'll better appreciate the differences. Don't rely on internet strangers to tell you what to think about those before you've even given them a chance yourself.
RE4 original, the rest remakes.
If you liked SH4, you’ll like every survival horror ever made.
resident evil 4 is very short just play it
aren't all of them short or something?
If by that you mean they can be speedrunned, then technically yes.
>at least 15 hours
>short
Also both RE4 original and remake are musts.
>Also both RE4 original and remake are musts.
both? aren't they the same?
>aren't they the same?
no. the premise is the same, but they play differently, have different level design and even the story is different.
Essentially.
The only remake close to the original is RE1. 2-4 are basically different games
shill thread disguised as "can you help me guise which one should i play??"
The originals first. The remakes are mostly great but if you like SH you'll like the originals more. Plus you can easily emulate the originals
OG RE2 is the best in the series imo. The remake was good but I didn't think it was as replayable as the original. 3's remake is fine if you pay less than $15 for it and the remake of 1 is objectively the best way to experience the beginning. 4 is genuinely as good as the original for me but Im not sure if it surpasses it.
TLDR; Remakes are great but the originals are still kino
What i never understood. RE2 leon and claire story are different? Do i need to beat the game twice?
Kinda, I guess? It's less that they're different and more that they run parallel to each other. In order to get full context you would have to play twice but it's a short game so its not a big deal.
>RE3 REMAKE FINE
Black person!
You know what, it's actually the greatest RE game ever made! I should have spent at least 80 dollars on it!
If you like sh gameplay you should like anything because those games are god awful. Resident Evil is the playable version of those games.
I was just like you Anon. I first played RE4 earlier this year then the remake. You should definitely play og then remake for sure. Both different games.
The original RE trilogy plays nearly identical to silent hill, code veronica is also worth checking out. I had a miserable time with RE4 and it doesn't play anything like resident evil or silent hill... Don't play it if ur expecting anything adjacent to survival horror, its just a run & gun
I'd say play the originals. If you like the originals, play the remakes. Not only do you get to appreciate all the little nods and changes the remakes made, but it won't feel like you're necessarily going backwards in terms of control.
Except for RE1. I'd argue the RE1 Remake is just better than the original. A lot of people would disagree, which is fair, but I feel all the stuff they added (while retaining most of what the original had) makes it just a better place to start. All the other Remakes entirely change the combat and a lot of the enemy/boss encounters, so they feel like different games. RE1 Remake can just replace the original.
I'd say go:
RE1 Remake - RE2 - RE3 - RE4 - RE5
Then go back and do the remakes if you have the time/interest. Don't play 6, it's trash. Play 7 and 8 if you want the newer style of RE which is first-person focused.
there's nothing about them worth playing today.
Play the remekes after you play the original
they are too different to play only one version
Both.
They are different experiences, yes even RE1 and REmake.
>since playing both would consume literally all the time for the next months that i have for gaming and the time on this earth is very limited to do that....
Do it anyways.
Most of these games aren't that long.
Play all the mainline games in release order, starting with the original RE1.
>Play all the mainline games in release order, starting with the original RE1.
Do i have to play it both times 1 with jill and 1 with Chris?
its worth playing both if youre interested, but you can just play 1 of them and move on.
gameplay wise chris is basically 'hard' mode. story wise each introduces a side character.
if you enjoy the games youll probably replay them a lot.
play the original trilogy first.
in re1 jill is more fun/less frustrating.
in re2 claire a/leon b is probably the better of the routes.
after the original trilogy, then play remake 1 and 2. theyre both great, but they dont replace the originals.
4 (original) is possibly the best game ever made, but its an action game, not survival horror.
>in re2 claire a/leon b is probably the better of the routes.
i'm more confused now.
There's two characters and two scenarios, A and B. Your first playthrough is the A scenario, then you can pick the other for a B scenario. Claire A and Leon B was the canon IIRC
