They ain't making scammy Third version rehashes anymore, like in the GB/GBA/NDS/3DS eras, and that's ''bad''

Bad example, those handheld games cost $40, so one of the base pair and the third version would cost $80, while the newer games with DLC cost $90/95.
You bought a $60 unfinished game then paid an additional $30+ for the rest of that game.

>everything's transferrable, outside of some hardware-limited cases
Old option 2, the Chad option:

>game is feature-complete

>buy original copy for $15-20 or buy third version for $30
>everything's transferrable, outside of some hardware-limited cases
Now:
>buy $60 game + NSO sub
>half the dex is locked
>dungeons are literally hallways, probably slapped together by the art team in 10 minutes
>everything in the entire game feels super unfinished
>Pokemon animation selection is worse than the 3DS games
>the main stories are even easier than before, and much shorter too
>plots are somehow worse than "guys that want land vs guys that want water"
>transferring anything between games is hard or impossible, requiring you to keep a Home and NSO sub to transfer and keep anything, which is now mandatory since the new games have different dex locks
>DLC released, $30
>if anyone new gets in NOW, the only way to get a complete experience is to spend $90 fricking dollars, and Pokemon doesn't go on sale as deep or as often as other franchises
>DLC is a little different between versions, so you're incentivized to buy both games and both DLCs (though I imagine people aren't THIS stupid... right?)
>still incentivized to maintain your NSO and Home subs the whole time

yeah, gen 4 was a mistake
Gen 6 looked kinda bad with how the map was still obviously designed around a 2D top-down grid, but Gen 7 had some nice eye-candy when it came to town design. I think they deliberately made the routes and streets really curvy and non-perpendicular just to show off that they weren't following a grid anymore.
Starter Pokémon “coming back” used to be standard when you had Pal Park or whatever. Now its DLC…

You were supposed to have the game in the first place because you bought it years ago for the sake of playing it. It was meant for you to transfer your buddies across games so that the Gen 2/3 non-transferable dilemma that killed Pokemania never happened again. They didn't expect you to buy a used copy of a GBA game that they no longer make money off of JUST to get a few Pokemon off of it.

You can get mons in the DLC pokedex without the DLC, I’m using Lapras in my SV base game team right now, no DLC purchased.
