Playing it is simple. GTA is what a game should be. Polished and fun to play, with or without thinking how deep the game is. Instead of frying my brain to memorize strats and stats, or spending a load amount of shit watching tutorials, after a hard days work, i can just sits and play, with a stories that are relatable to everyone because its general.

i enjoyed gta and put up with the repetitive driving and mediocre tps gameplay because it was the only city roam game around, and the games would give you a mission objective but not give a frick what creative bullshit way you come up with to clear it, the modern ones insist on having you follow a script. you can sometimes manually pick a script but it still feels restrictive

I only played San Andreas, and all I did was drive on bikes while listening to my radio. Everything else in these games is dogshit gameplaywise. It is so shallow that devs had to make up with an arguably good story so people wouldn't notice it. It is very similar to Yakuza in that sense. Both games depend on the same type of humor and try to hook you up with a narrative. If gameplay is shit, the game is shit, period. No amount of interactivity can change that. I guess it is fine to enjoy GTA or RDR in principle, but for me, it is only possible when you completely lack taste in video games.
