If you'd finished reading my post I mentioned the exact bit of info you're citing and that it isn't a hard confirmation at all, Encyclopedia Eorzea is written from the point-of-view of Eorzean and Sharlayan scholars relaying world info given by the Scions. The Reaper information in particular is given as the book-writer's theory on how it might work, and even if we do take it as gospel then it means neither Zero, Golbez nor Durante are Azem's shard because Azem's shard is already traveling with the player character as their Reaper avatar

He's not going to rewrite anyone's consciousness. After all the rejoinings, the people of the Source will have complete souls, but still be one of the modern races and not an Ancient. His goal is, once this happens, to kill all the fully rejoined mortals and force them to reincarnate as racial Ancients.

He doesn't give a frick about the Scion's opinions. He wants to appeal to you, because he sees the spark of his friend Azem in you (since you are his reincarnation) and can't help but try and empathize with you. There's also dialogue that makes it a point that he's repeatedly doing the stupid/wrong thing in dealing with you because 1) of that connection to Azem and 2) his conscience and the weight of his actions is finally wearing on him and part of him wants you to prove the Sundered can protect the planet and deserve to live so he can stop committing atrocities.
As far as why you would side with him, he could make you an Ascian.
I think you need to realize, Emet's plan can't work.
the ONLY Ancients he can bring back, are the ones stuck in Zodiark, the rest have long since reincarnated in the Aetherial Sea into new people.
the only thing he can do is unsunder the world, and MAYBE bring back however many people are in Zodiark.
this is how mind broken him and the other Ascians are, their plan likely cannot work, but they MUST do it, Emet is the one who slowly starts to realize this, and hopes you and the Scions prove him wrong, because he isn't going to stop otherwise.

Assumedly Zodiark could just do the work of dragging the Void back in whether the Void liked it or not, if they got the shard or two's worth of aether they still needed to unseal Zodiark enough that he can be put to work. It doesn't work for a Rejoining through "natural" means but it can both be repaired and can still be merged in some way

That said, we know Criterion engagement is awful from parses. It's more popular in Japan since they have higher average skill in the playerbase but it's still much less popular than savage raiding.

As someone who spent several years playing on JP servers before they opened OCE servers this is entirely false. The average JO is equally as trash as the average NA, the biggest differences are that JPs all follow macros for fights and that JPs are less selfish. There's no "I, me, my", only the group.
I'm sure the average PFer is the average PFer, all around the world. But there is a larger casual playerbase in EUNA which means we have lower clear rates in the west.

The whole point of Tataru's quest there is to raise a whole bunch of death flags at the end of ARR where everyone gets fricked up. At the time, devs were hinting towards somebody major getting killed.

Crystal's a damned sight better than the EU datacenter I was on, I don't remember if it was Light or Chaos before EU split but I was on Moogle at the time. Funny you mention people failing Doom mechanics because trying to walk three people through Qarn's first boss while I was just trying to level WAR is the only time in my years of play that I have ever come even remotely close to having my gear break. Ten minutes away from dungeon timeout, and they were still failing to clear Doom from themselves and still failing to kill the wasps before they could get to me.

Don't forget that the Garleans can't even use magic, so their grunt-tier weapons can't rely on Aether manipulation in any way, and Ceruleum is better spent on fueling magitech and for elite's weapons.

Not once does anyone, even him refer to "god" as a singular being. Kami from what i understand it is the closest to "god" in translation. It's a think One Piece does with Enel as well, to the point where a character tells him "kami" (god) as a title doesn't literally mean "kami"(god).

Gosetsu seems to be speaking very personally about "kami", singular as if it's one person doing these things. I'm just confused why every single translation of "Kami" never uses God when it fits perfectly.
He's likely just speaking to the generalized kami, not a specific kami named Kami. And if a specific kami WAS named Kami, that is then a proper noun, not a translation of god, so you wouldn't translate it regardless.

The Reaper information in particular is given as the book-writer's theory on how it might work, and even if we do take it as gospel then it means neither Zero, Golbez nor Durante are Azem's shard because Azem's shard is already traveling with the player character as their Reaper avatar

The game makes a point in saying you and Emet are roughly equally justified in your actions, that you would've done the same in his place, and that you two simply can't get along because your plan means his race stays extinct and his plan means all your friends die. It's part of the tragedy of it.
He's not going to rewrite anyone's consciousness. After all the rejoinings, the people of the Source will have complete souls, but still be one of the modern races and not an Ancient. He doesn't give a frick about the Scion's opinions. He wants to appeal to you, because he sees the spark of his friend Azem in you (since you are his reincarnation) and can't help but try and empathize with you. There's also dialogue that makes it a point that he's repeatedly doing the stupid/wrong thing in dealing with you because 1) of that connection to Azem and 2) his conscience and the weight of his actions is finally wearing on him and part of him wants you to prove the Sundered can protect the planet and deserve to live so he can stop committing atrocities.
As far as why you would side with him, he could make you an Ascian.

The average JO is equally as trash as the average NA, the biggest differences are that JPs all follow macros for fights and that JPs are less selfish. There's no "I, me, my", only the group.

Not everyone is a lore fanatic that spends their time ERPing or w/e, most normalgays log in to play this game once a week then forget about it.
