This is the greatest controller ever made. I'm not arguing, I'm not stating an opinion. It's objective fact. The only thing superior to the DualSense is the DualSense Edge.
>perfectly symmetrical controller design, just like human hands. Xbox layout has always been and will always be moronic.
>D-Pad actually works
>Haptic feedback is fricking incredible, makes you actually feel the blasts in Ratchet and Clank, actually feels like a motorcycle steering bar in your hands during Death Stranding. Honestly way more devs should be taking advantage of the haptic feedback being so realistic
>trackpads can actually be used like a mouse or set to be used as one in Steam options.
>fully functional gyro, actually works better than the Switch Pro Controller
>headphone jack and mic
>uses usb-c and a rechargeable battery (unlike Xbox garbage)
>Adaptive triggers are fricking nuts. In Ratchet and Clank you can feel the "pop" every time you pull the trigger on your gun, feels like you are cracking a can of pop open every time you throw a grenade. It can't be described, it has to be felt. Adaptive triggers are fricking wild and can emulate all kinds of trigger styles.
>just werks over Bluetooth
I despise Sony as a company, will never buy another PlayStation, but goddamn. This fricking controller cannot be topped. This is everything a modern gaming controller should have and then some. Honestly thinking of just buying a DualSense Edge for the easily replaced sticks and back buttons.

doesn't have back buttons so I will not buy it
Dualsense Edge does. Also replaceable sticks.
and it costs like a million bucks, so no ty
>two back buttons when 4 is the bare minimum to make it useful
I'm not paying the price of a console to buy a controller that will drift
I'm not paying the price of a full controller to change 1 (ONE) stick that drifted
>only two paddles
Nah.
>still drifts after one year
This. I have one for my PS5 and it is a pretty based controller.
At least the Dualsense Edge controller you can replace the sticks which all modern controllers should be doing in case the sticks either drift or breaks.
>copies MS like they always copy other companies
>still half ass it
Dude, the replacement sticks are 20 dollars a piece. That's more expensive than doing a regular swap and the added mechanism and design changes could have just been skipped over while getting us Hall-Effect sticks. The Dualshock 3 has a variation of Hall-Effect sticks, so there's no excuse except for nickel and diming people so far as I can see.
it is because of morons like them that we are where we are right now, like at the very least those fricking elite / pro controllers should have hall effect period, instead sony knows there is a problem and they are charging premium so people can "fix" it.
>doesn't come in black
not buying it in homosexual white
Your entire rant is invalidated by the left analog stick and d-pad being in the wrong positions.
You're right but gay Black folk on Ganker will always obsess about the battery life despite 5-8 hours being perfect for thr average gaming session length. The literal cavegoblins on this board game in 12 hour sessions when they aren't shitposting.
So do I lol, but I just plug my DS5 into the wall using one of my Steam Deck chargers when I need to. Works great.
Is Black the best color?
I kinda wanted the pink one
>>uses usb-c and a rechargeable battery (unlike Xbox garbage)
yes cause a replaceable battery that doesn't require disassembly is somehow worse than a built in battery that will degrade overtime until its charge only lasts 1 minute. Other than this I agree
>symmetry for the sake of visual symmetry
Ok but the asymmetrical layout means your thumbs are symmetrically positioned.
Every sony controller is dogshit for 99.9% of games
D-Pad sucks.
Based based based
D-pad is great, skill issue
The position prioritizes d-pad which is good. Typically when using sticks, you use both, so you want them symmetrical and same level or it feels awkward.
>D-pad is great, skill issue
This is how I know you don't know what a good controller is.
Post clears shitter.
>The position prioritizes d-pad which is good
False. The primary inputs of 3D games is the left stick so it goes in the primary position. If you absolutely need your controller to be visually symmetrical then WiiU Pro is your answer. Dualshocks are only good as a knockoff retro controller with feature bloat
Shut the frick up zoomie
>The position prioritizes d-pad which is good
No.
>Typically when using sticks, you use both, so you want them symmetrical and same level or it feels awkward.
No.
t. uses DS4 on PC
I'm a juri player on dpad. don't see the problem.
Look at your own hands. Are your thumbs in a different position on each hand? If not, then a controller should be symmetrical. You are always using both sticks in any game that uses the sticks.
I will never understand the kind of mental moronation that makes anyone think the Xbox layout is good or makes any sort of sense. Literally the only reason that Nintendo did it was to make the Joycon's identical from tabletop play with detached singular halfs of the Joy-Con. And it's weird because you use the directional buttons as ABXY.
Wrong
Wrong
Wrong
Right
Right
>I'm a juri player on dpad. don't see the problem.
I am not surprised. You're Gold IV.
heh
that means I'm better than at least 70% of people playing Street Fighter 6. Look at the rankings distribution. If you're diamond or whatever, good for you. you clearly play this game more than I do. But the reason you're better has nothing to do with the dpad, you'd be just as good on a dualsense.
>better than at least 70% of people playing Street Fighter 6
Not him but the level of play in Gold is absolutely terrible. With the win streak bonus, I'm not sure how you even get stuck in Gold. Ranked effectively doesn't start until platinum, and even then you can effectively climb to diamond and even master with barely a 50% winrate.
I'm hardstuck diamond 2 myself. Feels bad man. Chun-Li and Jamie give me such a hard time.
>You are always using both sticks in any game that uses the sticks
Not at all
>I will never understand the kind of mental moronation that makes anyone think the Xbox layout is good or makes any sort of sense.
The only people who share your opinion are people who only play sony. And the rest of us share the same opinion about the absolute garbage that sony calls gamepads. Bit that's ok, because you people make the world an interesting place. Now that sony is crumbling I'm hoping they will be forced to make big changes l, and hopefully their gamepads are one of them.
You're severely mentally ill.
>post ps3 controllers
>not only good, perfect
this is frickin bait
>butthurt nintendumbs itt
I only ever played FFXVI so far on the ps5, but I really like how the trigger will be harder to push down for certain things.
Dpad is horrendous. Not sure how Sony got it so damn wrong but they did.
Assymetical sticks are superior.
Adaptive triggers are a gimmick. Ghost of Tsushima DLC was the best use of them I experienced and they're still very much take it or leave it I couldn't care.
Gyro is good even if underutilized. Xbox controllers should really have them.
Xbox uses USB C and has an easily replaceable battery which is far superior. The battery life also sucks pretty hard.
It's funny how the touchpad is more useful on PC than it is on PS. It's underutilized as hell on PS and amounts to maybe 1-2 additional buttons most of the time but being able to use it as a mouse on PC is cool.
>symmetrical sticks
Shit
>2 hour battery life; batteries non-replaceable
Absolute shit
OK honestly though
Someone actually give a rational answer as to why asymetrical sticks are a good thing. Post your mutated hands with a thumb in the middle or something.
I've NEVER fricking understood this shit. Felt wrong as frick any time I used an Xbox or Nintendo Switch controller and gives your hands cramps.
Your hands are symmetrical.
The controller should be symmetrical.
Can ANYONE actually logically answer why this is wrong.
Yes you are. You're controlling the character and the camera in 3d games.
Asymmetrical is superior because the majority of the time your hands will be controlling the left stick for movement and the face buttons for actions. Occasionally you'll use the dpad or right stick but they're secondary controls so you'll just move your hands there temporarily. By having the left stick and face buttons on the same plane your thumbs will be resting symmetrically rather than the right one being higher than the left one. I suppose for stuff like fighting games where the dpad is your primary movement controls symmetrical sticks are better in which case the PS layout is better except even then it loses because the dpad is so fricking bad on the dualsense whereas it's decent at the very least on an xbox controller.
When people say symmetrical sticks, they (and I) specifically mean Playstation's moronic inner position symmetrical sticks which have your thumbs in an unnatural position compared to the XBox & Nintendo layout
No one complains about the Wii U Pro's version of symmetrical sticks because they're placed at the natural thumb position. The debate becomes whether the face buttons or right stick should be in that position rather than symmetrical vs assymetrical
>Someone actually give a rational answer as to why asymetrical sticks are a good thing
Because if symmetry were beneficial then Xbox/Switch layout would be better because those controllers keep your thumbs symmetrical. And if visual symmetry actually mattered then WiiU pro would be the best option
>Someone actually give a rational answer as to why asymetrical sticks are a good thing.
Because not every game is an FPS. For an FPS or similarly controlled game a symmetrical design would be better (though the opposite of playstations is the one you would want, in my opinion.) but many action games, platformers, rpgs, and so on would rather you use one stick for movement and menu navigation while the other thumb uses buttons to perform actions.
TLDR; it's better because it's meant for games where most of the time you only need one stick, instead of being optimised for games where you never use them.
>Someone actually give a rational answer as to why asymetrical sticks are a good thing.
Comfort.
Functionality.
95% of modern games require the left joystick to be in constant use.
>trackpads can actually be used like a mouse or set to be used as one in Steam options.
Why would I do this when gyro makes for a much better mouse? If you are using it for desktop, just set gyro to activate with a button press if you can't hold it steady enough to double click. Trackpad should be used for extra button inputs. Set it to detect four directional swipes and press on each side and you will be switching weapons just as well, if not better than someone using a keyboard.
>headphone jack and mic
pointless when the headphone jack only outputs 33kHz and turning on the mic cripples vibration
>rechargable battery
removable rechargeable batteries are better
>Adaptive triggers
bad feature that relies on easily worn components and directly interferes with gameplay
the xbox controller will always be superior
>moronic asymmetrical analog
>dogshit triggers
>literal non-Dpad
>no gyro, trackpad, haptics or adaptive triggers
I can't imagine how cheaply Microsoft produces this garbage. My guess is less than $10 a pop in some chinese slave shop.
no. it is not decent on the Xbox
Xbox has literally NEVER made a good dpad holy shit.
how fricking stupid are Xtards?
dude literally you have to cramp your thumb in this weird ass position that is NOT symmetrical with how you have your thumb on the face buttons. the Satisfye grip for the Switch literally had to fix this by the left side of the grip way wider than the right side. If you have the sticks in that moronic asymmetrical position, it's unnatural to hold. The only way to justify it is if they also made the left side of the Xbox controller much wider than the right side, which they didn't.
The DualShock/DualSense design has always made the most sense. The ONLY reason that Nintendo and Xbox can't copy it is because Sony patented the design multiple times over and will sue the frick out of them if they copy it. If it weren't for that reason, both Nintendo and Xbox would copy it because it makes the most sense. This is why everyone with a brain prefers the Sony controllers. This is why multiplats sell better on Sony consoles and PS2 is the biggest selling console ever and PS4 and PS5 are up there too. PS3 was a blunder for the price tag and even then it sold a ton in the end. This is also why Sony controllers are the most popular on Steam.
that guy is smarter than you.
>using joycon design as proof in any equation
asymmetrical analog
primary function of left-side is movement, with stick being in the most comfortable area for left thumb
primary function of right-side are buttons, with buttons being in the most comfortable area for right thumb
the only reason to have symetrical sticks is if you're playing an FPS, but why would you play an FPS on a gamepad instead of keyboard/mouse
triggers
no
non-Dpad
no
>>no gyro, trackpad, haptics or adaptive triggers
gimmicks, nothing more
>I ONLY PLAY LE PLATFORMERS THAT USE THE A BUTTON AND THE LEFT STICK!
This is how fricking moronic you are. If what you say is true then you must agree that this is an improvement to the original design.
>cramp your thumb in this weird ass position
>but if your thumb is in that position on a Sony controller it's fine
Would be perfect if it wasn't for the fact the fricking bumpers will always die.
Alright I'm not crazy. Never had an issue with stick drift on an official xbox controller (so far) but I did have one where the left bumper died.
I just sold mine to some dude for 50$. Bought it 2 years ago and the only game i finished with it was Deathloop because of dualsense features (even speaker works). But overall this controller sucks on it's own and it sucks even more for using it with pc. Xbox series controller is probably my favorite.
Xbox is better snoy
>be Sony controller
>controller rests on triggers
>battery is just inexplicably worse than any other brand
What is the purpose of this other than they don't care?
I am a Sony and I think the Dualsense is the worst of the DualShock series. It's still comfortable but I hate the gimmicks, I prefer the Switch Pro Controller, DualShock 2/3/4
it's great but i wish the dpad was the vita dpad and that the battery lasted longer
Still surprised Sony never reused the Vita D-pad, that shit was fantastic and much better than the PS4 and PS5 dpads.
Does the dualsense edge keep you mid chub while gaming or what? Why is it so expensive?
>guys visual symmetry totally matters
>what the best controller on the market looks like
Function over form.
kb is dogshit other than having lots and lots of buttons, it's the mouse that makes the difference and you can get fairly close to that with gyro
KB/M is better for a few genres but it’s just as bad a controller is at shooters at other ones.
>kb is dogshit
This but Sony controllers with their awkward sticks
Kb/m is great, but after 8 hours at the office I never want to see kb/m if I can avoid it. Controller is comfier after a long day wagecucking, even if it is worse (sometimes a lot) at some genres.
BULLSHIT ALERT. Dualsense uses the exact same face buttons, d-pad, and analog sticks as the DS4 controller. Nice try OP, but you are a homosexual.
ds4 buttons are flater
Nah its a piece of shit. Worse than the ds4, which was in turn worse than the ds3
>Dont worry fellow Ganker poorgays, I hate sony too but im shilling their controller
hands down best controller
Xbox > Switch Pro > [pick any 3rd party controller] > Dualshockers
Is the difference between the DS4 and Dualsense actually large enough to make the upgrade worth it? OP's post is kinda influencing me to get one.
I'm still fricking baffled why Start and Select buttons went away.
when you realize not a single modern controller has start / select buttons. its all just symbols now
Which is absolutely moronic. Start and select were perfectly fine. I've played series X for most of a year but even I still get confused on where the hamburger menu button or the box on a box buttons are
It is pretty good. The haptics on the shoulder triggers should be adopted by other manufacturers. I mostly use mine with my MiSTer though.
Controller designs just keep getting better but build quality just keeps getting shittier. Everything feels like it breaks in like a year now. Like you can feel the cheapness in the hands.
if it lasted a long time youd never have to buy a new one anon...
But bro its symmetrical? Wouldn't it trigger your OCD to see anti-symmetry when you're watching your favourite games?
Even if asymmetrical is technically better, it's such a minuscule quality improvement that it's never worth losing the d-pad over.
I'll take an actual usable d-pad over a 5% better feeling analog stick position any day.
The Xbox dpad is objectively better and more responsive than PlayStation though
Yes but the position makes using it a fricking nightmare to use for anything that isn't hotkeys.
As that image posted showed, it takes more effort to move your finger in the lower position, and then you compound that since using a d-pad takes more effort than moving an analog stick. You are just doubling down on the discomfort rather than spreading it out.
I mean it's fine if all you play is CoD and Fifa and shit, but anything that even slightly uses the d-pad is near unplayable.
I don't play games that use the joystick.
(You)
you only play fighters and platformers?
idk how tf that happened
The thumb on the left cant reach the dpad
>The thumb on the left cant reach the dpad
That's the fricking point. The opposit is your thumb can't reach the Joystick. Joystick is more important than D-pad. Argument over.
There's nothing natural about left.
D-pad is the primary input and also needs more room. Additionally you use both sticks together usually so it makes to put them both on same level
manlet hands
PS is form over function
xbox is function over form
>vanilla xbox was an explosive pizza oven
>vanilla PS was designed to play videogames
You're correct.
I don't think you know what function/form means...
Playing through R&C with DualSense was a treat. The little movements produce subtly feedback on the controller. Feels so good. Same when playing Gran Turismo and how different the tracks feel.
>perfectly symmetrical controller design
this alone make the controller shit to me
How's PC compatibility? My DS4's micro-usb is finally starting to go so I guess it might be time.
Non-offset joysticks are just objectively bad. Nothing will ever change my mind on this
literally sony's worst d-pad, how can people defend it? it reminds me of the 360 d-pad
Best 4-back-button controller that can be used on ps5 and pc? Was thinking about the dualsense edge but it only has 2, would also be playing ps4 games on ps5
What is is even the point of back buttons when like no games support them having unique input?
Removes needing to claw controllers
At the point where you need to start clawing to play the game, just switch to M&K.
reWASD lets you remap them to anything including macros.
noticing a lot more games on steam are supporting the dualsense
The dualsense is used by most current pro players. It's alright, but I think it's mostly just accessibility and ease of replacement.
The controller is great, but the ergonomics of the Dualshock 4 and Xbox have it beat for 99% of use cases. Durability is garbage due to the weakest link, the stick drift (seen it in both my DS5s, so can't say it's just a meme)
i been throwing my ds5 in my bag when i go places. grinding combos for hours. just abusing the shit out if it. still no drift. maybe i got lucky and bought the only ds5 that don't drift. hmm
With normal use, you'd see drift around 300 hours in. You could've gotten lucky, maybe they changed the mechanism. Mine is a launch unit, do note.
I don't own a PS5 either. But, one of my best friends does. He said these are the biggest pieces of junk controllers he's ever had. Even worse than the joycons. He's only owned his PS5 for about a year, and he's already had to replace his dualshock 3 times.
There's stuff I like about it but the d-pad being dogshit, terrible battery life, and being prone to stick drift (a flaw all the consoles are having tbf) make me just wish I could use DS4 on PS5 games, goddammit Sony
I much prefer the DualSense, but not being able to use DS4 for PS5 games is a massively bullshit anti-consumer move. I feel the same way about not being able to use my Wii U Pro controllers on Switch. Just greedy "frick our customers" bullshit.
worse than the ds4 and xbox controllers
No
Based. DS5 is legitimately close to perfection. My DS4 and Xbone controllers feel like toys after becoming accustomed to the DS5. Also like you said it's perfect for Steam input due to the gyros and touch pad. I think it's going to be the king for a long time to come unless Valve decides to get serious about an updated Steam controller with quality construction that can actually compete with it.
Bought a DS5 for use with my PC and it's very nice.
Tell me the best controller with hall effect. I'm so tired of my controller drifting bros.
You can put hall sensor sticks in a DualSense
Is it just for the DualSense Edge or can you swap easily on the normal version too?
>perfectly symmetrical controller design
Weird, I see something that looks like what sony thinks a D-pad should be on the left side, and buttons on the right side.
>headphone jack and mic
Besides the obvious, this is how you know OP is a shill. No one, NO ONE has ever wanted to play with a ps5 controller player using that gay tier microphone. And since you obviously have never done it I will let you in a little tip: all the other teammates hear with your dumb piece of shit gimmick is CLICK CLACK CLICK CLICK of the fricking sticks slamming against the plastic.
>people itt saying dpad is good
>press upper part of left or right strongly or slightly
>input is read as up
Frick you homosexuals the fricking xsx dpad is waaaay better
All first party Xbox and PS5 controllers are trash. This is either a troony fanboy or a paid shill. No one would sincerely defend how bad first party controllers are. The worst part is that we'll never have good controllers because Hall is a shitty chink company that charges out the ass to corporations wanting to use their technology
The dualsense will never feel as good as DS4 and no amount of shilling will change that fact
The dualsense will always be uncomfortable to use
Is joystick drift that common? I've had mine for almost a year and the left stick just went to shit a week ago.
Happens to controllers from all three companies now as they all use cheaper parts and I think even from the same manufacturer. Nintendium no longer exists.
Yeah, depends on how much you use your controller but they will all drift at some point. It's actually fricked, even after local coop is mostly dead we STILL have to buy multiple controllers every generation and they're more expensive than ever. Meanwhile my fricking Dreamcast controllers all still work perfectly.
If you don't want drift, either get a Steam Deck or 3rd party controller with hall effect sensors.
Everyone else (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Facebook/ Oculus) are on their race to the bottom arc.
I might consider one without a battery. I'm allergic to wireless peripherals, plus it would make it lighter.
It's ok, I prefer xbox layout for rocket league but lb broke in 6 months on my series x controller. I have been using the dualsense for two years now and it's still working great. Also gyro is great for wii/switch emulation
>get a dualsense
>love the feel of it
>right stick drifts out of the box
I would love to get one to play on PC since it has gyro and etc but that fricking drifting business got me scared, you can't trust any company since all of them have that 50/50 drift rate that only get worse as time goes by.
i tried this and the series X/S controllers at an event and now just ordered the latter because the dpad feels much better and more suited to 2d stuff
every man made object is symmetrical
>perfectly symmetrical controller design, just like human hands
you absolute buffoon, why do you think cars are asymmetrical
as an owner of both a series x controller and a dualsense, the xbox controller is much better.
It's not that comfortable, the gimmick triggers feel awful unless the game supports them, most dont. You can't roll onto the bumpers from the triggers well, the battery life is abysmal, the triggers are prone to failure and even in the Edge they are the same shitty sticks with the option to replace them for an added cost. It's overpriced, especially the Edge version.
>symmetrical stick
>best
Get better bait.
DualSense Edge with Xbox Elite 2's four back paddles would be the perfect richgay controller.
I am not a fan of the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. It feels weird to me. Especially when my controller starts vibrating to the game's score. Very uncomfortable.
Frick you I would use Dualshock 3 for the rest of my life if I could
>left control stick, the thing you'll be using the most often is on the inside rather than the outside edge
Immediate failure.
