I don't either. It's pac man with a couple gadgets and boring political cutscenes with characters that have no faces. It's also like 4 hours long. The codec calls were cool and added a nice atmospheric touch, I always liked getting one and thinking how comfy it would be to talk to a cute asian girl over a radio while hiding from spec ops soldiers in a vent shaft. Other than that though, the game is boring as sin and doesn't have much going for it.
I was going to jump straight into mgs2 and 3 on my PS2 with opl but was like frickit i'll try this on emulator. the themes are great but man wtf so boring. should I continue the series? are the ps2 ones better?
>a 2.5d overhead game was a smart concession given how clunky most full 3d games were on the system.
you are fricking moronic, the game is full 3D its just the camera thats overhead, resident evil is more 2.5D since the background are actually 2D
this is such a dumb sentiment, I played the game like 2 decades after it came out and still enjoyed it, still revisit it all the time.
Boomers think they were the only ones smart enough to enjoy games that came out prior to 2000.
>Boomers think they were the only ones smart enough to enjoy games that came out prior to 2000.
It's not a matter of being "mart enough".
The problem is that we have people (and not only moronic and gay zoomers) who play these games for the first time in 2024, don't enjoy them as much as anticipated, and then come here and talk shit.
MGS1 would be the best in the series if it had more than about 15 minutes of actual sneaking gameplay. The mechanics are simple but elegant, and the gadgets give you lots of ways to experiment with them- But the game never gives you the space to do so.
The first few hours are some of the best vidya ever made, but the overall experience suffers from the fact it would rather give you cut scenes and codec calls than gameplay. Once you have the realisation just how ridiculously tiny the map is, it's hard to look at it the same again.
Honestly I haven't played VR missions and I'm a big fan, I honestly just forget about it a lot of the time, I don't know if I'm compelled enough by the distilled gamplay to warrant playing it.
They're better designed than the actual game's gameplay action segments. It was so popular they brought them back in the special edition of MGS2 where it was also the highlight of the actual gameplay.
I have actually played the MGS2 missions, even have the Document of MGS2 and messed around in those missions, I think they are cool and have interesting setups.
so maybe you’re a platform guy, not a metal gear guy. don’t force yourself to play gamed you don’t like. but don’t presume your unformed opinion matters. play sly cooper or ratchet and clank or some shit that’s up your alley. klonoa!

it’s not everyone’s type of game. that don’t mean it ain’t one of the best games ever made. i don’t play zelda but i won’t argue with people who place the shit in the top ten. it’s just not for me.

i don’t know that. it’s legitmately insane how often people are called trolls when they might just have a different opinion. i make sincere threads about not understanding a game and everyone says it’s bait and i’m 100% earnest. this board is paranoid and braindead at this point, it’s like no one can even conceive of a different viewpoint with certain games. it’s obnoxious
Cant we just all try to be nice and not so vitriolic?
Mgs is a good game, and going for big boss rank is a fun challenge to shoot for on replays. The vr missions really round out the experience and push the stealth mechanics as far as they will go. I really like it!

I would say 2 and 3 generally do a better job of integrating stealth into the campaigns, compared to 1 where it's kind of awkwardly thin.
if you're not hooked playing mgs1 you're either a zoomer or this series just isn't for you and you don't deserve it
A Hind-D? Metal Gear? Thermal Goggles?
It felt like you where in an spy agent movie
it had good bossfights and some fun gimmicks, a 2.5d overhead game was a smart concession given how clunky most full 3d games were on the system.

i think its really really impressive for when it came out
i can see people now not getting it though
This is one of those "you had to be there" games, along with FF7 and OoT.
OoT >>>> FF7 > MGS
FF7>MGS>>>>OoT
NOOOOOO
this is such a dumb sentiment, I played the game like 2 decades after it came out and still enjoyed it, still revisit it all the time.

So what? they've been doing that forever you're just an oldgay, they were doing the same shit back in 2007 and 2014 and so on and so forth.
try being 13 in 1998 and youd understand

VR Missions
>he didn't play the integral version with the vr missions

They're also canon to MGS2

GENES BROTHER!
How did Kojima get away with this?
(I know this is from TTS but couldnt find a gif from the original, anyway he does the same thing)
I know Evangelion didn't invent psychotic headbutts but it kinda invented crazy headbutts by monoeyed cyborgs.
Get away with what? Someone being possessed and asking for pain? What are you going to sue for exactly?
see:
Any other monoeyed cyborg that goes psycho smashing his head other than Eva (1995) and MGS (1998)?
Kinda crazy to think this game came out just 2 years after Super Mario 64
it’s the best psone game and one of the top 25 games of all time and always will be, and you are a stupid zoomer who doesn’t know he’s born
meh i'm not a zoomer and I had a ps1 growing up just never played it till now. seems like japanese-slop
>seems like
worthless judgment
I mean i'm playing through it now, it's not that great. the movie like cutscenes are cool.
by contrast, name 5 games you consider great
crash 1-3 spyro 1-3

Oh I get it, you're a giant moronic baby
>I mean i'm playing through it now
Are you sure that's what you mean?
>slop
Perhaps you should consider suicide, that's en-vogue with youth today.
metal gear is a real game compared to the shovelware which is 90% of the PS1 library.
Then I’ll give it to you
I can't get out of the submarine dock. They keep shooting me and my judo flips don't do anything, neither do my karate chops.
there's nothing to get, it's archaic 8-bit, 8-directional gameplay interrupted by pretentious engrish melodrama and talking heads exposition
War bad, genetic engineering soldiers bad, nukes bad.
This board has really gone down the shitter
you can say that again
Cant we just all try to be nice and not so vitriolic?

Nu/vr/ is so angry all the time
zoomers were raised on the internet and are naturally psychotic
