Basically this, it looked cool AF and had some cool gimmicks, but it lacks in gameplay. Similar story with alien hominid and flash. For some reason alien hominid and viewtiful Joe share the same space in my memory? Were they released in a doublpack on GameCube?!?
the way joe moves and the game plays is definitely an acquired taste, very methodical and tight, you will absolutely be disappointed if you expect typical fluid sidescroller gameplay.
Oh well. Maybe next time. I didn't like the stupid 'film' aesthetic but the combat is tight af later even if it feels weird. I didn't LOVE it but it was certainly memorable.
Then you're dumb tbh. It's a perfectly solid action game + awesome gimmick that works well and was never done + awesome graphics and music + high difficulty and replayability
Felt the same after my first run too. After seeing some videos and doing replays imo the problem is the optimal/funnest way to play isn't well conveyed to the player. The gist is >dodge an enemy >get some hits in, potentially in ff >repeat a few times >dodge again >go into slow-mo and start knocking the enemies around like billiard balls
The other problem is certain enemy types and especially bosses aren't this dynamic. You just avoid some moves then slow-zoom punch them for a thousand years (a million if you're on Ultra V-Rated).
It's a unique experience. Not a fantastic one or even that great, but certainly different. Which is why the two sequels weren't that great: They were no longer different.
It's like a pure video game, 100% solid with emphasis on interactivity, innovation and fun. You may believe that video games are your hobby, but it isn't really if you dislike VJ
I remember I bought 2 new for nearly nothing at EBGames and the employee was impressed at my tastes, kek
It's fun but it's your average Platinum game, bunch of weird "WTF do I do?" moments and it's not really a game you do awesome at on your first try (Well, for that, it's much less difficult to do that than every other games they released after)
It bugs me how slow he runs. I get that he's got tiny legs, but it's just annoying and once you get to the second stage and you're just expected to be constantly going into slow-mo to avoid offscreen bullets fired at you I just hit my patience limit. The bats are also a really irritating enemy.
this game always gave me a really depressing vibe. i can't pinpoint why but there was something fricked about the way this game looked and i didn't feel right while playing it.
cel-shading was still a fairly novel technique at the time.

>lacks in gameplay
It's a beat em up platformer with some hard bosses if you up the difficulty
Yeah but controls feel like shit. It's almost like a rhythm game, everything is so rigid
Ahh yeah I’m not a big beaten up fan. That’s exactly what it is.
Beatem up*
The cel shading is VJ's worst aspect since it just turns everything into a murky black mess from the outlines. Cel shading is a meme.
>hype
i have not seen any hype for this game. though ill admit i found it quite charming so your opinion is wrong
Never liked it myself but then I don't like W101 either. I think that entire string of super deformed hero games was a mistake
Daily Snoy seethe about Nintendo thread
>everyone's seething about nintendo
Either they are and there's a reason, or they aren't, and you have a persecution complex.
Game was on the snoy too tho
go back to your hole, Gankerermin
I thought it was great.
It's ok, you don't have to like anything. At least you are not being like this moron

It's not that good, but you must admit it's kind of cool.

Combat's fun and it has a vibe I guess. It's disgustingly ugly and it's not as if the story knowing.
