A: Start with D&D or D&D vidya, that's what everything is based on
B: You don't need to start small as a player, a DM will be able to show you the ropes in whatever campaign he wants to run unless it's a super esoteric system or module or campaign design
C: That dungeon is too small to be useful though the art is pretty, that would take like 20 minutes sans combat encounters to run.

      >sans combat encounters to run
      Sounds like a bad time.

Obv there'd be combat but it could take any amount of time dependent on the system. In almost any system it would be 20 minutes to resolve the traps and terrain in that dungeon, but 3 combat encounters could be 20 more minutes or three hours depending on what you run. In D&D that would be a 1 hour dungeon most likely, which is too short for my tastes. I'd double it. Otherwise why bother with a fancy map

Looks like it'd make a nice introductory dungeon to level a party to 2, like your classic "kill giant rats in the tavern basement" type quest

Ask your DM if you can play a "Sergal" they are a very strong beginner-friendly race, can't go wrong. DMs usually appreciate if you play a female character because nobody wants a sausage party, that's a surefire way to win his favor. Give her a nice name like Furelia Softpaws, make sure to roleplay her appropriately by using words like "uwu" and ending your sentences with "nyaa~" and flirt with the male characters of the party as much as you can. Since tabletop isn't a visual medium, be sure to constantly remind everyone of your character's appearance by describing her voluptuous curves, her luscious fur, her fat tail and cute pawpads.

I actually hate that a cool race like sergals was born in a furry community and remain there. An alpha predator that is a mix of a wolf and a shark IS a cool idea.

Old School Essentials. Also try the adventure called The Black Wyrm of Brandonsford, it's a great intro scenario.

Other games, which are more complex but related to Vermis and which you should investigate, include:

    >Dungeon Crawl Classics
    >Torchbearer
    >Five Fathoms Deep
    >Into the Odd
    >Knave
    >Shadowdark

Are you planning to run a game or have someone run it for you or is this a solo experience? If it's solo I would suggest Scarlet Heroes, which is OSR but has solo rules, or d100 Dungeon

Black Wyrm is great, I would also suggest Tomb of the Serpent Kings. It's a crawl written to be an introduction for new players. It's available on the creators blog for free if you search for it.

I suggest running Vermis with Crypts & Things, which is a Swords & Wizardry hack. The tone and simplicity of the system is perfect for it. Here's the whole PDF.
