not for me. i worked a soulless job where i sat in a line of other people, "chained" to my desk (electrostatic wire to not shock computers) repairing computers where i just receive computers, send them off to other random people in a warehouse, and get them back with notes if something was messed up because they don't train people properly and don't actually care to talk to people and only want to make their own numbers go up. it was my best paying job so far but i quit within a couple of months.

It's that or being homeless man, all I need to see is someone tweaking on the street to know wageslavery is a better existence, as long as you're not minimum wage at that point just leech off the government.

        Anonymous

        >as long as you're not minimum wage at that point just leech off the government.
Honestly speaking, this is literally the single reason why the governments are so hell bent into mass importing poverty, why would someone work sunrise to sunset picking fruits for less than minimum wage when you can just start receiving government subsidies for not working?

          Anonymous

The real answer is that if you needed to do that work to afford luxuries but not to simply survive, people would still want to work but those who didn't could at least be happy and not dead. And the government would get even more money because money given to people for necessities automatically goes back to the economy because they can't afford not to spend it.
          It's called UBI.

its not too bad, i bought a tent with my last paycheck at a job and lived in a tent community for a while. had a laptop, didnt work for like 7 months. went to a 24/7 gas station for internet and to charge my laptop, which would then stay alive for about 6ish hours while in my tent. i would just program and do some light vidya. easily the worst part was being greasy and unable to shower. i had enough money to eat hot dogs every day. that kinda sucked too but it was overall comfy. if i had figured out some kind of shower system i would've considered it a long vacation.

People still think that reaching their "goals" makes them happy?
      Hahaha

It's all in your head, and if you can't control your head, you can't control happiness, I recommend stopping the constant stream of dopaminergic actions and taking at least 30-60 minutes of your day to sit down, close your eyes, either focus on a single point of interest of your choosing inside your mind, or experience your surroundings as they are, not as compartmentalized words and terms, but as things that just are, sounds, sensations, in no time will you start to see change.

        >People still think that reaching their "goals" makes them happy?
        >Hahaha
100% this. Once you reach your goal you start feeling empty inside. Either make your goal something that you'll chase for the rest of your life or something immaterial that adjusts itself on its own and grows bigger every time you get close to it. Everything is fine as long as you have a goal you're working towards.
That's why all those CEOs can't stop working even after becoming billionaires - they keep chasing a monetary goal that grows bigger every time they get close to it. Not out of greed but because they'd lose their reason to live if they acknowledged that they've reached their goal.

The job search for your first dev job is suicide fuel. It doesn't feel like it's going to be worth it in the end, if I even make it.

This has always been true in any field, even before working from home was a thing. Pick a job that's well below your capabilities, finish your work in a fraction of the time you're given and spend the rest looking busy. As long as you make sure not to miss deadlines nobody will have anything but positive things to say about you.

All Covid did was open more people's eyes to this truth, that working hard your whole life will not get rewarded, so you might as well do the bare minimum and pseudo-retire asap.

As someone who has been a NEET for years, it's not as good as you might think.

Everyday I wake up and do nothing but browse Ganker and watch some videos all day. I don't have the willpower to play anything in my backlog and I don't feel any fun or joy in anything.

You feel like life is passing by and you are being left behind. I don't know why you guys would want this.

Algo government pays 40% of your electricity bill and water bill is almost free.
On any town less than 10k pop. far from Barcelona you can buy a nice flat for 30k€, or rent one for 300€/month

No, anon, I hated being a neet because it was a lonely, unfulfilling existence that allowed me to pretend as if I were still a child on summer vacation every day. I could still be a neet if I wanted to be one, but I probably won’t be able to raise a family of my own some day if I do that since I’m already nearly thirty.

            Anonymous

Sure if you want a family its impossible being a NEET, but with the way things are economically you either must have a godlike grift or must have gotten a pretty good job that risks your health to be able to afford a woman even more a family, but everyone sacrifices what they need to not want to kill themselves at the end of the day, as long as its you being the one choosing it doesnt matter what kind of damage that will cause, no regrets

I can’t say I agree that you need to have hit the lottery to be capable of supporting a family, either. You just need to be willing to not spend most of your income on video games and fast food.

You're a little b***h. The issue of work isn't that you have to do something you don't want to do (grow up). The real issue is that you are wasting your time to produce results for someone else.
In school at least you were improving yourself. You were working on yourself.
Work is, well, working for someone else. Sure you can learn a few things here and there, but ultimately you're sacrificing your time for someone else. And it doesn't even pay good. I really want to watch this society crash and burn.

WFH isn't rare in tech but the guys saying they just play vidya all day are full of shit.

        Anonymous

I could realistically play vidya all day but because I am in support, I have to be a bit more free and ready to respond at a moment's notice and it sucks consistently pausing things, it's horrible on the focus and enjoyment of a game. The plus side of that is the fact that as long as I am available to take calls and tickets, I can justify my position- you cannot toss the phrase "wage fraud" around with me.
There are a lot of things that are actual drawbacks from WFH. I set up in my extra room which has my guest bed and CRT for my older consoles and as a result, I next to never also feel like I play games in said area because that's the workmode area. Plus, there is guilt of me being essentially in my house for days on end. It is also only a 4 minute drive for me to go into work, so it's not like I am waking up exceptionally later to punch in or anything.

if you're not on top of it and have a shit team, it can be. I'm lucky that I'm in a good one and things flow pretty smooth for us. I work for the government basically so we have a good amount of resource behind us. It can be hard to get in, but look for project support roles. They're usually a bit more admin based and you learn on the job and can end up doing courses such as agile/prince 2 that are paid by the company. These are courses that are transferable and respected globally for most in the project management field.
          >Tell me about it.
for me, it's mostly a lot of meetings. I have meetings at the start of the week for project updates, mid week we have new tasks/requirements coming in, and by the end of the week I take time myself to to review the data around it. I do a bit of line management too but it's chilled. We mostly just talk about TV as my team are easy going.

It depends on the job. Most of my unskilled jobs in my 20s I was on autopilot. My current job requires keeping track of lots of people and I unfortunately remember what happens on most days now. I think I was happier being a low paid drone.

Yeah same here. I still don’t have legal liability but I pretty much run everything for my boss. Any time anyone in the firm has question it goes to me. I just keep getting more shit to do and more responsibility but since I’m not a manager I still actually have my own work to complete and can’t entertain every moron who wants to try and argue something they don’t understand in the slightest.

Man, I feel the same. You and the other anon who said he felt in charge of his life once he stopped being a NEET hit the nail on the head.

Sure, it's "comfy" to stay at home all day in the beginning but eventually games, movies and other distractions won't be enough to fill the void and you realize you're wasting your life away.

As men we naturally crave being independent, auto-sufficient and in control of our own lives and you'll never feel in control of your own life if you're a NEET.

Well, every big content creator scams people at some point.
Scamming people is probably the fastest way to make money.
You could take the time and effort to make something genuinely good and find a niche audience, which leads to long term, steady income, but that takes a while.
There's tons of free software online to do whatever the frick you want.

If you thoughtfully practiced for 30-60 minutes, you'd learn more than mindlessly hacking away at something for 6-10 hours
you're the type of moron who wonders why they suck at studying, but at the same time never taking breaks, listening to music, a video, or a podcast at the same time, and dividing their attention everywhere else but the studying itself. The reason why some students don't learn anything in class is because their minds are occupied elsewhere.

But I don't blame you, school never taught us this, and if your parents didn't either, you'll never find a way to improve at something unless you seek answers yourself.
I learned this from introspection and looking at successful or talented people, most of them aren't "hard workers", they just work intelligently.

I know that feel. I bust my ass working for scraps now. Ran out of excuses. Hoping to find something better, but this market is grim right now.

its not pussy that i want. its having a wife/a serious relationship. having sex is unironically not hard and not a big deal. being in a serious relationship is.

          real.

the whole virgin insult was created by women that somehow got primarily used by men against other men. being a virgin is a good thing if anything.

Same. Honestly I don’t even care about money as long as I get enough for food/rent/vidya. I just wish my job wasn’t so soul-crushing. It would probably instantly cure half of my mental illnesses.

I feel ya. In March 1st I'm gonna start my clinical pathology residency after 3 years of neetdom. I'm thinking in all those video games I'm not gonna play, because I wasted my neet years by playing the same games over and over. For someone who claims to love video games, I have actually played very few of them.

Usually its just weirdos and crackheads digging through ashtrays and garbage dumps. Verbals tend to get them to frick off usually and if not the threat/use of police/pepperspray/a GUN does the trick too.
