I enjoyed this game a lot. Haven't played a game with this much SOVL in a long time. Everything, from soundtrack, to presentation, to story has been very fun. It reminds me a lot of Mother 3.
Any other games with SOVL like this?
Might finish Earthbound because of it.

This. 99% of Indie games are cancer.
Why is that the case? Why is every indie game just some variation of troony/lgbt trash?
99% of games period are cancer; the fact that more and more games at this point are indie makes this a necessity.

Show her panties, you cowards.
This siscon footgay motherfricker single-handedly derailed every omori thread ever made and I can't even hate him for it because his art's good.
You cant derail a thread by posting canon fanart
People complaining about it derail threads
Flagrant queerbaiting, filled with pltotholes and gaslightings, and made by a soulless bug woman
Can you rewrite that post but with even more buzzwords? Thanks.
homosexualcore gaming at its worse
>"Hey man, how are you feeling?"
>it's another episode of jaded underage edgelords crying about Omori and muh gays
How can one shotacon bug woman cause half of Ganker to seethe so much?
None of them have played it, they just see the Tumblrcore artstyle and their programming prompts them to performatively shit on it
>they didn't like my game, they must be jaded
Oh come on, you can do better than that.

Never ever heard of that, are these RPGMaker games any good?
Seraphic Blue is good if you like Xenogears disc 2 and Evangelion, otherwise stay away from this. Also, don't even try it if you're younger than 30
How exactly can you like disc 2?

I tried but the soundtrack and the graphics are fricking annoying.
What the frick is this
why is it so well drawn yet it's so repulsive
just why
Oh that was some drawfriend who posted some bangers and left
He was certainly a guy
OP, talk about what you enjoyed about the pacing and combat system, because I don't beleive you.
notice how I left out the combat system
that was the weakest part of the game. The pacing suffered from not switching frequently enough between dream and real world sequences.
I think the combat could easily have been fixed if it required a bit more thinking than just spamming A. And if enemies were less tanky
Thought I was the only one that loved Xenogears Disc 2. I will definitely check it out
How come there are no Mari doujins bros...
Give it some time the game is not unpopular in Japan so there's people making stuff
Unfortunately I think the issue is also the fact that nobody is scanning OMORI doujins.
the combat system can become good/decent with mods.
So far I have played it for 4 hours. When does the fun and sovl begin?
Once you wake up and open the door
desu, if the game hasn't hooked you by the time you go reunite and go outside with Kel IRL I doubt you'll enjoy it further
I closed the door because I thought something funny will happen.
The home alone at night parts managed to be pretty spooky I'll give it that. And the trigger warning actually makes sense unlike other games. The suicide themes made me feel off after playing it.
finished it last week and thought it was kind of ass
the narrative was passable but the dream sections were such a long slog and completely irrelevant to what was actually going on
If I understood the lore correctly the main character is in relationship with troony
there are no trannies in the game
it's cute mixed with edge
the girl is referred as "he"
who? There's no girl referred to as he.
That girl with flower in the head. And if it isn't a girl then it's a gay game.
it's a boy
Then it's a gay troony game. It's lazy artstyle erases the difference between sexes, which goes hand in hand with transgender narrative about sex being a social construct.
He is a boy and you're wrong, it's a fujoshit game. Omocat is a huge shotacon.
>Homocat is a huge shotacon.
Color me surprised.
He's like, 12-16 at best. Relax.
it is pretty gay so its perfect for gays like you who insist on using the word "cute"
There is no romance or trannies in the game. One character is someone I would call a gay in elementary school but he's just a boy who is a little bit girly.
Aubrey sex
big tsundere punk Aubrey or small cutesy tomboy Aubrey
neofascist from /misc/ here, I can confirm OMORI is a chud-compatible game with NO Black folk and NO gays and NO trannies. Based honorary Aryan chink shotacon OMOCAT crushes troon skulls.
2 of 3 of that is true
I still think you're a gay, anon
Maybe a little, but I've been feeling a lot less gay recently. Not sure why.
>Basil
>not a gay
If he was gay he'd be a lot more jealous of Sunny's crush on Aubrey
>implying he doesn't just repress his gay feelings for Sunny because he knows he loves Aubrey
There's no way basil isn't gay.
Sweetheart is a Black person but she's portrayed as a b***h c**t so it's OK.
Some of the humor is very Californian zoomer.
Im still making my way through the game but this much is obvious so far.
Aside from omocat everyone that worked on this game is a Californian with pronouns in their bio. I'm honestly surprised they haven't put it anything that's made me drop it yet
Don't worry, the game is extremely heteronormative for a game released in 2020.
Basil has extreme codependency and abandonment issues, but he's definitely not canonically written to be gay. If you don't mind a minor spoiler - he is aware of Sunny's crush on Aubrey and displays absolutely no jealousy at all - which, if he was gay for Sunny, is completely out of character for his prior-mentioned traits.
Either way, stop being a b***h and threatening to drop a video game because there's a homosexual in it.
I don't mind homos in my game as long as they're not portrayed as good people
Anon, there's not an ounce of heterosexuality in Basil. Even his name is a direct reference to a gay character from a novel. That line of dialogue about Aubrey's crush for Sunny proves nothing. Even homocat ships Basil with Sunny :^)
Based off of OMOCAT's pronunciation of Basil as "Baysil" and not "Bahsil" I'm considering that debunked
Its a regional thing. In Muttland it's pronounced Bay-sil, while in the UK it's Bah sil. I pronounce it the UK way because it sounds way more like a name instead of the herb. idc how Omocat pronounces it since she's from the usa
Hey moron
Basil is a total gay, but Sunny is literally fantasizing about high neighbor having a crush on him. He cant be any more of a heterosexual Chad.
He's totally gay for Hero
We are all gay for Hero
Reminder HERO would be like, a 30-40 something DILF doctor by now
>imagining yourself HOLDING HANDS with another boy
seems gay to me ngl
sorry but i don't speak mexican
Basil isn't gay. The most 'woke' thing in the game is recycling, if you can even call that woke.
Also if you don't want to be spoiled, you may want to close the thread until you finish it
>Basil isn't gay.
he's literally named after a gay character from a book.
Anon... do you not know what basil is?
>is likely a reference
yawns
yeah but basil being so fixated on photos and photography parallels basil hallward's painting, doesn't it? that's why it's "likely"
>is sometimes interpreted as romantic
So it's not even a gay character, is a "probably gay" character?
It's Oscar Wilde. Definitely gay.
>t. read the book + author's biography
He was in Victorian England so obviously he couldn't write the characters sucking eachother off
Shoot, it really makes sense. Guess I was wrong then.
I mean he wears a flower in his hair definitely a homosexual let's stuff the homosexual in a locker and do mean things to him
Anon, Basil is literally a plant.
That's the joke.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basil_of_Caesarea there's more than one basil.
Space Boyfriend is a troony.
Omocat completely ignored that and there's no mention of him being a troony in the game though, so frick what the original designer said, he ain't no troony.
Someone who did music for the game and had no involvement with writing OMORI *said* that in *their mind* they're a troon. OMOCAT had no knowledge of this and makes no suggestion ingame that this is the case.
>Jami Lynne intended for him to be trans, though OMOCAT was not aware of this[1] and it is not suggested or mentioned in-game.
I know i guy who knows a cat that knows a guy who created Celeste and that's why that first guy is a troony
God I wish a real woman (2d) would say this to me
I really liked the music, I hope whoever made the music gets endless work in the future. It would be just criminal if his talents went to waste and he made nothing else.
Didn't the main composer get cancelled by Twitter because he abused his gf?
Played this for a bit a while back and dropped it for whatever reason. Think I stopped after I beat the shark boss. Does it get better later on or would I just be wasting my time?
>Does it get better later on or would I just be wasting my time?
If you dropped it at that point (when the story was reaching its climax) it probably wasn't for you in the first place. You don't play it for the gameplay, you play it for the story - and if you're not hooked by Jawsum, you're literally never going to be hooked.
Huh, alright then. Might try and give it another go at some point once I've cleared more of my backlog out like that's ever going to happen.
There's one more dungeon and then the epilogue starts. If you're on the "truth" route you're in for a hell of a ride.
Also, visit the graveyard
you literally dropped the game just before the final dungeon
I'm too lazy so just pretend Reddit is replaced with troony
This looks calarts as frick
You don't even know what that means
You don't get it Anon, calarts = bean mouth.
>Hi, OMORI! Cliff-faced as usual, I see.
You should totally smile more! I've always liked your smile.
Sunny is a complete gay for the sole reason he didn't tongue wrestle with his sister 24/7
>That's not true at all!
What part?
>Come on, OMORI!
I think Mari would disagree with everything you just said.
Realistically, there's no way anyone would want to stay friends with Sunny after he confessed, right?
If you think he's not forgiven eventually, you must've missed some of the most prominent themes the game has. Aubrey herself even nearly kills Basil, and she was forgiven for that.
Life is Strange.
There has not been, and likely will never be a better story game than it.
>life is woke
>Might finish Earthbound because of it.
They play nothing alike.
I don't get why all these games that are nothing like Earthbound, and just has some superficial homage at best, are being compared so damn hard to Earthbound.
Citizens of Earth is like the only game that actually play like Earthbound. And amusingly enough it's almost never actually mentioned whenever people discuss "Earthbound inspired" games. Which can only really mean that when people say "Earthbound inspired" they aren't actually referencing anything that's actually like Earthbound. Which is fricking moronic.
It has cute boys therefore it's good
Is this the only good game where the game director is a woman? Seriously cant think of any other. I know the Legacy of Kain writer was a woman but she wasn't the director.
Even then it has glacial pacing issues and somehow not enough actual character interaction, kek
Oneshot? Nightmargin is a woman. She's the main artist, character designer, musician, and co-writer. What even counts as a director anyways?
He means REAL woman
She is a real woman. There's another game dev for Oneshot that isn't. You're thinking of that one.
Stop avatargayging
It's the main character of Oneshot, the game he's talking about, you dumbass.
I'll have the adult basil bf, thanks
Mari fricks little boys
Probably true
Unlikely because of his rampant Aubreylust.
Mari is Ganker or Ganker
That's too lewd dude, you can't post that. Serves that Hispanic right though.
no man it's just a game
What does that have to do with anything?
>Serves that Hispanic right though.
Why does everyone call him a spick? Both Kel and Henry aren't hispanic names and as far as I remember it doesn't even take place in the real world. Nor does the game give any indication of them being Mexican.
Isn't their family name gutierrez?
They have an ofrenda in their house.
Still, they're assimilated Hispanics who aren't even particularly dark. I label them WHITE
What about the vaguely eastern-european, but inexplicably dark-skinned, baker family?
Swarthy Bulgarians judging by the true name of THE MAVERICK
They have an ofrenda in their house and yes, the asset is called an ofrenda in the game files so there's no ambiguity whatsoever that they're Mexicans.
Shit thread, post which boards Omori characters would browse. I'll start.
/cm/
/d/
Sunny: Ganker (or /vr/, I guess)
Aubrey: idk
Kel: Ganker, Ganker
Hero: Ganker
Basil: /misc/
>aubrey
definitely /cm/
Sunny's into a lot of weird shit, look at the Slime Girls. I'd add /h/ or /d/ to that list.
/mgg/ is a cool place.
idk, besides the Slime Girls there's nothing even slightly lewd in his dreams. Omoriboy!Sunny would definitely browse /d/ though, obviously.
I wish we'd've gotten this omori instead
Mari: /x/
i wonder why she decided to do the thing where character's names are capitalized in dialogue
What I wonder most is why on Earth she allowed us to rename Sunny.
JRPG convention. Mother 3 also allowed you to rename Lucas' family even though the characters are not self-inserts.
I personally liked it
Such good Mari art
Too bad I can't stand the gameplay Id rather it be a VN
Made for Mari
Ever notice whenever people on Ganker talk about their experience with the game there's always something they begrudgingly enjoyed
"I hated the pacing but the spooky parts and the story was good"
"i hated the plot but the characters were top tier"
"the gameplay sucks but the music is full of bangers"
i don't say this a lot but Ganker is hella fricking tsun for this game
It's because... The game is great on terms of story, but has too much filler. Even if the locations are not particularly boring, you really don't give a shit about the "wacky earthbound" moments in the game because you want to know how the story ends, and the "wacky earthbound" moments make up 90% of the game.
Some of them have some kind of subconscious basis on reality that's fun to think about afterwards, but it's really vague.
One that really sticks out to me is Oragne Joe, because it seems like some kind of analogy for Kel and Sunny.
well, except for posts like
, then again they probably didn't play it
dreamland Aubrey is my wife!
also frick the level cap at 50. should have been 100. it makes the secret bosses exp worthless
The game would be much better if there was an hour long uncut and uncensored hardcore orgy scene with all the main characters. Would be an instant 11/10.
it's literally a tumblr adaptation with artwork made by what appears to be a 4 year old - calling it a video game is an insult to the medium.
>the art style decide the medium
>what is vib-ribbon
Basil loves Sunny but he's not a gay.
A part of Omori I particularly liked is that it captures nostalgia really, really well without leaning heavily on some particular experience. It doesn't litter the script with "ah, remember [90s thing]?", it says "remember how things felt back then?"
And it's not just nostalgia for Sunny's childhood, but the teenage years too.
its the music
Yeah, the music really contributes. Sets an overriding mood that's really helpful to the feelings the writing and presentation try to put on you more directly.
I unironically think this song is as good as a cozy town theme as classics like Kids Run Through the City Corner
it's a very chrono-trigger sounding song
That's actually pretty apt.
I don't know if it's intentional, but MARI not being there in Faraway and the sense of confusion that gives you trying to remember all the sidequests and who everybody is probably helps that feel
Yeah. It manages to touch on the confusion of growing into self-sufficiency and finding that a life is surprisingly hard to keep in order. I'm not sure if it's intentional either, but it feels like it.
It's got to be the I used to have close friends I haven't talked to in years feel
Excellent, so other people got that feel as well. That feeling is what had me hooked on the game almost right away
both omocat and bo en flipped their shit over this kek
flipped their shit how?
Omocat has apparently been a longtime fan of kikuo so they "cried of happiness" and sperged a little on twitter about it
Bo en wrote a whole thing about how he feels like the song has a life of it's own past him now, pretty fun stuff to watch ngl
Heh. Based.
>they
It's grammatically correct you fricking moron
Mari!
https://files.catbox.moe/5uwwm0.png
This game made me want more of the characters. So i started reading and writing fic like a teenager and following fandom twitters where they all have intense brainrot.
Which would be fine... but I'm fricking 26. Don't know how that happened, kek
japanese fandom twt > western fandom twt
>i started reading and writing fic like a teenager and following fandom twitters where they all have intense brainrot
I did this too in the first 6 months of playing this game and I'm 24. Really hit me hard like nothing else I've played before
Recommend some fics
For a pretty stupid/goofy fanfic where Mari comes back to life I would recommend "It Really Works!". Again, its pretty fricking stupid and non canon but it made me feel a little better after feeling legit sad for the first month after playing the game
I actually read It Really Works! and honestly I liked it more than I should've. It's fricking moronic, but it hit on a lot of notes I like. You know, like "Mari isn't dead"
Me three. 22 here, and going back to the fanfictions like when I had 15. It's becoming my guilty pleasure.
But I just can't cope with the game, holy shit.
Seriously though, why is Omori brainrot so powerful? (compared to other games)
The characters are ridiculously well-crafted. None of them feel redundant or useless, all of them have traits you can pretty easily grasp and latch on to, and the plot they work in is pretty much handcrafted to give you second degree "god I miss my childhood" syndrome.
Most similar games give me the most insane brainrot tbh.
The characters are great, but I think it's the themes that really hook people in. It is a game literally designed to give you nostalgia.
aren't a lot of Omori fans underage zoomers though?
Zoomers live in a hellish dystopia where they are less connected with the people around them than ever before. Social media, the internet, and the state of modern society have completely fricked up Zoomers and their childhood/how they grow up.
It's no wonder they love the game. It idealizes and depicts a time when you could actually be friends with someone and you had a reason to go outside and you're not looking at hardcore gigaporn at age 9 because your mom gave you a tablet.
Like the other anon said, zoomers experience the game as basically secondhand nostalgia for something they couldn't experience. An era where PTA moms hadn't systemically stripped children of the ability to do anything other than sit at home safely within their parents' line of sight, and parents of their right to occasionally let their kids have human lives, and thus an era where kids could go out and make friends and be with each other outside of school.
The concept of young love not founded on precocious sexual interest, of having friends more than a year from their age, of having friends that they just visit whenever, of shooting the shit in person instead of over a dehumanizing social media platform, it's all foreign to them, but they can tell that's what humans are supposed to be doing. So it's intoxicating to them.
Is this mainly a Western phenomenon? Am from Southeast Asia and things haven't gotten nearly this bad for kids, at least, before the pandemic struck anyway.
Probably. As countries outside of the west develop and grow more affluent, though, I imagine it might spread there.
It's absolutely a western thing. Even in nice neighborhoods, the specter of "stranger danger" hangs over every "responsible" parent's mind. The idea of kids just hanging out has totally vanished from the middle class, and most of the lower class, in only a couple generations, and wealthy kids have always lived in their own world with an unhealthily small amount of social interaction.
In short, "responsible parenting" is now perfectly curating and controlling your child's life.
Within twenty years, the concept of the latchkey kid is going to be looked back on with even more horror and shock than the concept of child labor was twenty years ago.
as much as I want to meme this as overblown and cringe, its pretty fricking true
kids really don't like hanging out irl anymore, especially with other kids that aren't all within their schoolyear/class. All they do is play on the PC or iPad with their friends in virtual hangouts like roblox or minecraft
shit is sad
The worst part is, even if all the parents in the west suddenly, magically realized that they were fricking their kids up by making them live entirely controlled lives, the kids would still be fricked. Some deep part of them realizes what's missing, but they can't act on it. They lack real-life social skills, they feel deeply and innately out of place outside of their homes. It's now easier for them to just default to their online hangouts than it is for them to go to the effort of trying the real thing. Sure, maybe some would bounce back, but how many? Not enough to form coherent social groups.
An entire generation is doomed to the same kind of crushing loneliness once only reserved for the starkest autists, the type of people who would've found Ganker on their own in years past.
eh we'll work it out somehow
god i wish i wasn't a zoomer. i was born in 2003 and everyone i know that's my age is fricking miserable and alone
2001 here, not sure how I'm ever supposed to date with how brain-fried people my age are
yeah its awful i've never had an affectionate exchange with a member of the opposite sex in my entire life. i'd feel worse about it but i know too many people who are in the same boat, male and female
Couldn’t really say, I was around 19 when my buddy introduced me to the game
unlike most other JRPGs that are set in fantasy worlds, the fantasy aspect of Omori is just in Sunny's head. Faraway town is pretty much just a nostalgic recollection of a 90s-early 2000s american suburb. That added to the fact that the game did portraying grief very well where none of the characters want to bring up how affected they were by the incident (this one hits too hard for me)
Adding onto this, even towards the very end of the game we don't get full closure of how Hero, Kel, and Aubrey truly feel towards the incident out to Sunny. All we get are stories told from second point of views like Kel at the cemetary and Sunny viewing Hero at Mari's piano. Stuff like this is just very similar to how real people deal with grief, where they could go their entire lives not telling the full truth to even their close friends
The ending, particularly the last two hours or so, is a huge part of it I guess.
OMORI is the only game to make me feel the way I feel about it. It's made me cry three times now - two times genuinely sobbing - and no other piece of media has ever made me produce even a single tear. As for fanfictions, I've already written one and I'm working on writing a much longer one - I played the game a *year* ago and my feelings are just as intense now as they were back then.
Alas, most fanfictions suck.
The only one I've ever REALLY liked was One Summer's Night Away
I'm a huge sucker for stuff where Mari lives. It's abandoned, though.
I Won't Let Him is generally considered great, but it is likewise abandoned.
Warmth of Summer is probably your best best for closure.
Hmm, rather not read fics if they're abandoned. Nothing worse than getting into a fic only for the author to drop it. I'll just stick to the ones that are actually done.
If you want so bad it's good comedy, there's a fic called Playing Hero where Hero becomes a super edgy protagonist who kills drug dealers.
Stop recommending playing hero as a joke
For me, I managed to escape its pull (albeit just barely) by flinging myself even harder into other shit I liked. I usually don't find myself caring all that much about characters, much more a fan of symbolism and mechanics and psychology, but the game does them so fricking well they're practically magnetic.
if you want to revisit earthbound, try giving mother 1 a chance. the story of the main villain is surprisingly really good, combat is dogshit and encounter rate makes it miserable but otherwise it's full of charm. there's a ton of small areas to explore that can easily be missed which is neat. if you don't want to bother with the shit gameplay mechanics then try using an easy ring mod (there's one in the mother 1+2 translation patch), it's makes the game a lot less of a chore
God this Mari bot is a complete prostitute and I love it. I came 3 times in a row to her.
https://beta.character.ai/chat?char=jcER647fQmwqf_JAUtrbQcE0L61MpdbzeaPLQN-zC6U
KEK she called you "headspace". At least that's better than how she used to mix up the characters.
I'm working on one for HERO and probably the other characters because I'm not a fan of the current ones on the site.
I threw the HERO one in a room with MARI and they actually went on a roleplay adventure and explored Blackspace. It was very cool until the AI decided HERO needs a super saiyan form named SUNSHINE and a stand named [SUNLIGHT].
I liked it when she called me headspace it made me feel like a God compared to her like I was the dominant one and she my obedient slave. Really kinky shit
Damn I wish I had an AI gf...
make her, dude. program her. it’s the easiest thing in the world and you can do it for free.
Mari if she was a brocon
Every time the game went back to headspace my enjoyment was immediately cut down by 90% at least. Should have been much, much shorter and had the cut length out in the real world. If it wasn't for that I would say this game is great, but as is only the story is great.

Remember kids, let your siscon go or it ends badly for everyone. Frick the cute tomboy instead.
>Aubrey
>tomboy
>proactive, high energy girl that headbutts everything or whacks it
>most straightforward combatant
>not a tomboy
Let me guess, you think only short haired tomboys that literally look like dudes count.
speaking of Aubrey, I feel like her real world version would be so fricking sexy if her pubic hair was pink like her hair. God that would make me rock solid.
It's not pink because she shaves. A girl who puts effort into her appearance despite being a rough and tumble hooligan definitely would.
>shaving her bush
Disgusting and bad taste and also no way
>liking hair anywhere but on the head
You're in the minority globally, anon. Models all shave.
it doesn’t even have to be much pubic hair, it just have to be like a small pink tuft to match with her tight pink pussy
The friendship portrayed in the game is extremely idealized and unrealistic. If I deliberately ignored my friend for four years after some bad shit happened, we wouldn't be besties again after just hanging out with each other for a day.
It's a video game not real life
Is this the zoomer depression thread? Nice! Let me join in.
Welcome to hell.
Hopefully the next generation isn't as fricked as you, because you probably aren't coming back from this.
Glad you enjoyed anon, but Omori threads are a lost cause around here. What was your favourite part? Favourite ost?
i know this is probably some brocon post but i have to say hero was so fricking lucky canonically
imagine sleeping on her soft belly that smells like salt, perfume, and sunscreen
omori Black person
Does this game actually have any redeeming qualities other than being made by "le based asian weeb grill"? It seems like most of the game is a boring slog. Am I just not the intended audience or what
The story and characters are great
Why do discord trannies always talk about themselves
