I feel like playing some party-based, turn-based, grid-based RPG, ideally with more dungeon crawling than gray moral choices and bear romance. Something like Avernum but not Avernum, and not anything else by Vogel as he seems to have run out of ideas some 20 years ago.
What even is out there?

i recommend ultima 4.
Phenomenal game and my favorite of the series, but doesn't really fit OP's criteria of "morally gray", as Ultima 4 very much has an objective morality and an objectively right way to play.
The middle trilogy of the Ultima series (4-5-6) taken as a whole will fit OP perfectly.
Can you handle old games? Realms of Arkania: Star Trail will give you a unique experience.
Depends. I can handle clunky UI, but if a game lets me irreversibly frick myself without any prior warning, where I have no way of knowing I should have done something without reading a guide, that's a no-no.
>load it up
>unskippable cutscene as soon as you walk outside
>try to save the game after the unskippable cutscene so you never ever have to sit through that shit again but it asks you to enter the 12th word on page 57 of the players manual
quit and deleted
>using gog installers
Skill issue.
Neverlock 1996 Universal, nev_univ.exe
i used to download and crack games from bbses before you were born dude. it's not that i can't do it, it's that i just don't care.
Wow, I was born in 1980, so must've been playing some odd games on those BBSes. It's really easy to do this stuff if you set up your own DOS environment with a frontend. GoG installers are awful in so many ways and I like to let people who don't know better realize that, so don't take it personal.
Shut the hell up you 2000 something subhumans. I'm 33 and I absolutely do not believe anyone ~~*competent*~~ here can do anything beyond python at best.

Problem solved, brainlet.
I blame The Witcher, even though the first game did it well, then suddenly everyone started copying that and advertising their games as mature dark fantasy.
Solasta
Dungeon Rats, Solasta, Wasteland 3, maybe Bards the 4 are all decent if you want newer stuff.
Knights of the Chalice 1 and 2.
Knights of the Chalice 2
Underrail. You control a party of one.
>bear romance
I played through BG3 twice, shutting down all companion flirting each time early on. Yet, homosexual furries keep bringing the ability to romance a Druid as the central feature in the game.
I killed halsin. Throat fricked minthara then snapped her neck during felatio.
Shut down everyone else.
Furry homosexuals are a plague
jewels of arabia: dreamers
Is that any different mechanically from the Exile games because it looks like a straight reskin.
I don't remember much about exile. but I remember really enjoying JoA.
also I remember there were no ranged weapons and it was all melee or magic.
but then again, it's been close to 20 years
