I'd call them parkour platformers. especially the sands of time games. different appeal than traditional 3d platformers but still 3d platformers nonetheless
Though I like to call Tomb Raider something more like a technical platformer where everything is on the grid system and certain actions equal certain amounts of units on the grid that you use for planning jumps.

I think of it like this: if someone asked me to recommend them a 3D platformer and I said Tomb Raider or PoP, they'd probably not see the appeal. "3D platformer", like any genre, sets up certain expectations for the gameplay - in this case something close to 3D Mario, Spyro or a collectathon. I wouldn't call Half-Life a 3D platformer either, even though you do a fair bit of platforming in it, because it's simply not a main focus
don't be a cheapskate. it's only 7 bucks, and it's the best N64 style platformers in ages.
it's short but I still sunk over 20 hours into it just because I felt like replaying it a few times
Bought both Toree games during the winter sale and had a lot of fun, even though they only lasted like 90 minutes each. I'll probably buy the rest of the guy's games next sale
there's a couple of free toree games on his itch:
https://siactro.itch.io/toree-genesis
https://siactro.itch.io/toree-jolly-jam
also a new toree game coming out later this year:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2549240/Toree_Saturn/
i tried to play that game and immediately I found myself in a level inside of a level inside of a level. were they just trying to make the first level flashy to grab my attention or is the entire game like this?
I love 3d platformers but most of them are boring kiddy shit with no depth. I like mario 64, a hat in time, and most of the tony hawk games. I mostly play Mario romhacks these days. I'm looking forward to that big sunshine hack releasing in the summer
NTA, but Demon Turf never clicked with me. I think the 2D character fricks with my perspective, because I missed a lot of jumps I wouldn't have in SM64 or AHiT. Or maybe it was the flat textures, camera or lack of parallaxing elsewhere. 98% of the npcs also looked like trash and most worlds were really plain looking because they kept relying on a single color. The water world actually stood out to me specifically because it seemed the only one that wasn't afraid of some fricking contrast
Can anyone tell me if this game goes from cutesy banjo bullshit into horror later on? I've seen too many of these weird fricking bing bing wahoo satan is coming kinda games and this seems to be like that
I hope the N64 graphics fad doesn't last.
I was a child console owner and 3D fanatic, and yet I have ZERO nostalgia for the console's graphics. They are one of the low points in the history of video games (along with the Saturn and PSX, but these at least have some redeeming points).
"N64 style" goes beyond low poly, however. There are also tiny textures, a fog present at almost every moment, very low resolution and an ultra-aggressive filter making everything even more blurry and disgusting to look at.
Because most of them are fairly simple, and so they'd get repetitive if they were too long. It takes a lot of skill to pull of a game with an interesting-enough moveset, or enough variety in the levels to stay fun for 10+ hours
I do too, as long as they're actually good, and not overrated trash that was never good, such as Banjo-Kazooie and most Rare games, now that I think about it to name an example.
Is tomb raider a 3d platformer?
The original ones yeah the newer ones not really.
No, they were action-adventure games. Just like (3D) Zelda, which also has platforming but doesn't focus on it
Tomb Raider games are 3D cinematic platformers.
Less like Mario, more like Prince of Persia.
I'd call them parkour platformers. especially the sands of time games. different appeal than traditional 3d platformers but still 3d platformers nonetheless
He means the original Prince of Persia games.
Though I like to call Tomb Raider something more like a technical platformer where everything is on the grid system and certain actions equal certain amounts of units on the grid that you use for planning jumps.
the original prince of persia games were like that too to an extent. they're not typical platformers at least
More so than banjo.
play corn kidz 64
I did. I liked it a lot, but it also felt like a demo for a bigger game. I'm still not sure if I liked that or not yet
I gagree
I wish there were more levels like the tower and the anxiety tower. those and the mirror levels were my favorite parts of the game
still waiting for a fricking torrent
?
>IGG
malware
shit's safe af
but you need a pop up blocker on their website
don't be a cheapskate. it's only 7 bucks, and it's the best N64 style platformers in ages.

Saturn is already on my wishlist, but I didn't know about his itch.io page. Thanks, I'll be checking that out later
i tried to play that game and immediately I found myself in a level inside of a level inside of a level. were they just trying to make the first level flashy to grab my attention or is the entire game like this?
Who is this semen demon?
Fynn from Cavern of Dreams and he's a dragon not a demon
if you wanna play as a demon play Demon Turf
I love 3d platformers but most of them are boring kiddy shit with no depth. I like mario 64, a hat in time, and most of the tony hawk games. I mostly play Mario romhacks these days. I'm looking forward to that big sunshine hack releasing in the summer
you should play demon turf
the moveset is similar to mario odyssey

nah it has the same style pretty much the whole way through
Still waiting for Super Kiwi 64 but at least 5 hours long.
Have you played Cavern of Dreams and/or Corn Kidz 64?
Yes.
With all these collectathons, will anyone try to clone Conker's Bad Fur Day?
same, think it might be my favorite genre honestly. I beat pic related the other day and had a great time with it
Are there any legitimately good ones that aren't just mascotshit?
Is rocket jumping a 3d platformer?
No, that's one or two levels higher on the autism chart.
But it's fun autism.

it's cheaper for smaller teams to produce low poly assets so I don't see it ever going away. besides a lot of people like it, same with pixel art
"N64 style" goes beyond low poly, however. There are also tiny textures, a fog present at almost every moment, very low resolution and an ultra-aggressive filter making everything even more blurry and disgusting to look at.
this honestly. I'm glad I discovered Mario 64 and OOT with my Geforce 2 MX
Why the FRICK are all of these indie retro platformers only like 3 hours long?
maybe laziness, maybe to attract speedrunners
tbf most plateformer aren't very long in the first place.
Because most of them are fairly simple, and so they'd get repetitive if they were too long. It takes a lot of skill to pull of a game with an interesting-enough moveset, or enough variety in the levels to stay fun for 10+ hours
