I genuinely believe that every AAA game to ever be a blatant ripoff of Gears of War - even the ones most critically panned, like Dark Void, Quantum Theory, Hunted: The Demon's Forge, Inversion or Kane & Lynch 2 - is actually better than any Gears of War game, because they objectively bring more to the table, offer more things to do, than even the latest Gears of War does.
Even after a decade and a half, Gears of War is still so barebones in gameplay and design that you can only improve on it by adding onto it.
i believe youre a homosexual
Such a bizarre attachment. To Gears of all things?
Don't care, I can chainsaw guys in half.
Gears gameplay was practically perfected with the first game. I can't think of better TPS at all to me its perfected the TPS formula. Now as for the stories that is another issue. Thanks for reminding me of Dark Void.
Yes, AAA devs still can't get over sticky covers over the shoulder dodgeroll (uh oh!) 2 weapons barebones parody of a TPS. And except gameplay depth they add more cutscenes and openworldsurvivalcraft.
Play some real TPS, homosexual. Gears did not invent the genre, it ruined it.
>Yes, AAA devs still can't get over sticky covers over the shoulder dodgeroll (uh oh!) 2 weapons barebones parody of a TPS.
I actually like the kind of gameplay Gears pioneered, I just think every other game that copied it did it better. Third-Person shooters before Gears of War were just FPS games were you saw your character or outdated autoaim shit.
And I like cutscenes. I like it when there's more to think about a game than just the gameplay.
Sticky covers are a downgrade.
Weapon limit is a downgrade.
Rolling around is a downgrade.
Aiming down sights is a downgrade.
Gears of SHIT caused irreparable damage to the whole genre and gaming in general. Devs should go to jail for vandalism.
>Game is fun so many people play it and other games imitate it
>Noooooo it ruined gaming!!!
>Posts a pic of an autist

>Gears did not invent the genre
No but it did make it the best I've ever played to this day. No I will not play some "real TPS" I have played plenty of them with many being far before GOW got released gay. Don't talk shit to me. I remember when TPS didn't even rely on OTS like they almost all do now so don't tell me I haven't played enough of them. Gears 1-3 are my favorite TPS and that was a very satisfying trilogy of games that should have ended there. Gears 4-6 should have been on an entirely different planet tbqh.
gears 3 was absolute kino
I could never stand multiplayer in Gears of War. It's just the opposite of everything I'd want in a multiplayer shooter.
Explain
Everything is so fricking slow and you have no fricking movement options. It's FINE in single player but it makes multiplayer unplayable. I genuinely can't relate to people who like multiplayer in Gears of War.
>Gears of War multiplayer
>Slow
Lmao
zoomie doesn't know about wallbouncing
>I genuinely can't relate to people who like multiplayer in Gears of War.
Assuming you aren't joking, you may have literal autism.
>slow
>no movement options
You have no clue what you are talking about or you are baiting.
Only 2 is slow. Uniromically play campaign or multiplayer from 3 upwards if you want a smoother experience. Judgements campaign is especially fun, although short, because they spam you with weak but numerous enemies. I played it on heroic and just ran around with a gnasher because I didn’t want sit behind cover and it was a lot of fun.
?t=159
gets me every time
sequels shouldnt ever be made
lol at that sawed-off shotgun. It definitely should have been an on the map pick up it was way too strong on release.
And yet RE4 is its inspiration
Really makes you think...
>Stand in one place firing bb guns at morons
RE4 sucks actually
Gears of War is just a RE4 ripoff.
Halo and GoW failed nailed combat engagements, and it worked for solo, co-op, and pvp. Those few seconds of combat were just unmatched, even to this day (Destiny is, but obviously it is just persistent Halo).
I remember when Halo 1 and 2 were so big and every other developer was struggling to be the company that woudl make the "halo-killer" because it was the standard. We got a bunch of cringe bullshit like Killzone and Resistance, and fricking MS get GoW and it is the thing that dethroned Halo 2. It was great.
Kill zone & Resistance are better than Halo but w/e.
Not that it matters anymore.
the only good killzone games are 2 and the handheld ones
3 is awesome because you can play it with the PS Move. Like Resistance 3.
Gears of War standardized controls for third person perspective games, and everyone else copied it afterwards, especially over the shoulder aiming (actually Splinter Cell did it much earlier and RE4 was also popular, but GOW turned it into the standard with trigger/shoulder buttons aiming and shooting), so no shit they were better.
Even in Uncharted 1, over the shoulder aiming felt like a tapped on addition added late to the game, considering how generous "hip fire" auto aim is.
Killzone 2, which also happens to be the most popular game in the series, is input lag the game
>b-b-but it was meant to be heavy
And plays like shit.
Perhaps (degrees) but it's still more interesting than Gears of War.
>so no shit they were better.
Okay, but the sequels have no right to exist.
Mercenaries is literally the only good game to come out of those franchises and it was a handheld game that wasn't even developed by Guerilla
Resistance 3 was good
and I liked Resistance 1 in spite of itself
but yeah most of Sony’s shooters were a wash. No idea why people thought Killzone was any good up until Mercenary came out and had actual replayability for the campaign and bot support, something that barely any shooters had when it came out.
I only played Gears of War 1 recently, I disagree. It's pretty funky and fun, hard to keep a straight face when you're taking space marines on rollercoaster rides and waterslides. Lot of Gears of War type shooters are really repetitive and that's never remotely an issue in the one I played.
Even if it's totally completely ripping off Pitch Black.
Fred Durst space marine
>Gears of War is still so barebones in gameplay and design
Why should it be complicated? Honestly, the series peaked at 3, and even by then, the horde mode was overstepping it's boundaries with the pseudo base building.
Humans have been throwing spears since prehistory, but it's still an Olympic sport.
>lets copy horde from ut2k4 mod
>but lets ruin it with a shitty building gimick (which could have been a million times better)
>gow5 just turn horde into every man for himself
>5 games later you can't still join half-way horde matches making 99% of them no worth playing because some player leaves
>TPS thread
>ctrl-F
>no mention of Vanquish at all
For shame.
Literally just Gears of War but uh... Cheap looking? And with sliding?
Sorta. It has some neat boss fights, sentient cover as enemies, and has a solid weapon roster marred by moronic upgrade system.
Man, what a fricking homosexual opinion. Gears is probably one of the few that actually understands how to use cover mechanics and has a ton of systems in place to make it work.
Only a few like Brothers In Arms also take good advantage of it to promote flanking to lock down enemy movement and capabilities.
>popular=good
Opinion discarded. Keep consooming.
Every time I see people shitting on Gears they describe the game as if they spent the entire time just sitting under cover with a lancer.
I've noticed this to. The very second someone claims the game is slow or has slow movement they clearly are baiting people with bullshit.
2 is pretty slow though
I think you're moronic and Gears 3 was the peak of TPS gameplay
When Halo Reach came out and its multiplayer sucked ass I tried Gears and the moment I saw some guy style on me with wallbounces I knew the game was going to be kino
Great campaign too
I’m guessing you haven’t played gear 3+ because they add a lot of really cool stuff that only work in a third person game that other third person games havent been able to do and when they do include them they arent half as good. Things like:
>spotting
>meat shields
>bag and tags
>mantle kicks
>grenade tags
>bayonet charges
>smoke bombs
>chain saw collisions
>ledge grabs
>vault kicks
>executions
>wall bouncing
>revives
>crawling
>gun jamming
>perfect reloads
>gnasher focused game play
>weapon trading
>seeing weapon spawn timers
Make the game feel very tactile and a lot of fun with friends. Also most other FOS games don’t have nearly half as many unique enemy types in the campaign.
Also gearshift game modes are unique. Instead of a boring CTF we have guardian or capture the leader. All TDM games end with eliminating the enemy team. Dodgeball is a fun as frick game mode that I’ve yet to see work in any other third person game.
The gears games have soul no matter what bitter gays who hate the series say. This is undeniable.
Forgot to add the roadie run. Instead of a boring sprint you crouch run. This series is kino.
