I wanted to buy a console I had no idea about and what to do. I was debating getting a Dreamcast instead but the Saturn seemed cooler. Other consoles I thought of getting were the PCFX or Neo Geo Pocket but those are impossible to find irl anymore.

                Anonymous

They'd make the same profit per unit if they were buying them at the same price as elsewhere (which they probably actually are), but still make a lot more money from volume sold. People wouldn't stop going to akiba if prices were cheaper. More people would go including non-tourists.
                So to you:

They could absolutely still make a profit selling at the same prices as elsewhere.
They can get away with charging more so they do, but to state that they have to is false.

                Anonymous

Not necessarily, there are various expenses that depend on the area you're in from rent, electric, heat etc, the average pay of employees, factoring of any work done on the consoles. I don't suspect you buy anything if you don't understand this, it's the same sort of idiocy on Ganker when people see pokemon games are "expensive."

                Anonymous

You can say they would have smaller margins than shops elsewhere, but we're not talking about proportional profit, just whether they would still be in the black or not.
With the crazy low prices they buy stuff at, they could definitely still be in the black selling stuff for what places outside akiba do.
You can keep trying to explain that the gaijin tax doesn't exist and say it's just a response to rent, heating, and employees, but the gap is too big to be explained by that.
The largest part of the gap is accounted for by people who don't know or care they are being grossly overcharged happily paying the grossly overblown prices.
I'm not a cheap or poor person, but I don't know how you can't feel like the world's biggest sucker paying 4x what you need to for something.
It's not even about the amount. If you paid 25 cents for a 5 cent candy, you should feel stupid.

If I was in a place where it costs 25 cents to sell candy I would gladly pay that. It's the cost of running a business in a tourist trap.

                >Why does that need to be rolled into second-hand video game purchases?
Why not? Should stores not stand by their sales? You probably don't even stand by your posts, and you do those for free.

I know you think videogames should be dirt cheap, but commodities are weighed and measured by the market, not your headcanon. People want videogames. I was like you at first, but then I realized it's also a good thing. I like that old games are seen as valuable and an investment. You just want them to be worthless and people throw them away like they were doing? So you can get "lel epic game" by dumpster diving? I don't understand your logic here. If you were already in the collecting game before 2016, then you would've had everything you wanted for pennies on the dollar, BUT, if you are new to collecting, then you're a bandwagoner like every other frick who "pushes up the market prices".

Odes are pretty much on the cusp of obsolescence for Saturn. Just grab a saroo flashcart. Compatibility is like 90% at this point and improves with every update. It's the cheapest solution and has the best features by far. If you get an ode, you have to pick up a memory/ram expansion cartridge to go with it. Saroo does everything right out of the cart slot, and much faster than anything else.

Fenrir ODEs are pretty cheap compared to the competition. Other than that, your options are the MODE or the Satiator. You could get a Pseudo Saturn cart and stack of blank CD-Rs too.

Saturn has my favorite version of Tomb Raider. Purely for nostalgic reasons. Panzer Dragoon 1 and 2 are great rail shooters, and I like Nights Into Dreams. Also, the English translations of Bulk Slash, Policenauts and J. B. Harold: Blue Chicago Blues are fun.

Bad idea. Saturn games are constantly switching between 240p and 480i, and a lot of games have their main gameplay in 480i.
So you're gonna want a scaler that has a framebuffer and good deinterlacing. GBS-C is perfect for Saturn gaming.

                >b-but in my head!
Anyway, yen is at an all time low again, time to import.

It's inevitable, I agree. It doesn't need to happen so fricking fast though.

It's been happening insanely slowly, you're simply late to this and are feeling sore about this because you read someone bought a saturn for $15 in 2002 and are upset you can't find that deal today.

I bought one for 2000 yen in 2020.
I have most of what I want.
                Just think the sentiment of
                >being ripped off is good and if you disagree you're a poorgay
                is odd.
                Anyhow, carry on.

why do you care so much? why should electronics have a degrading value despite a decreasing supply and raising demand?
