I have not heard of triangle strategy until now. I liked octopath 2 a lot so I'm wondering if this game is any good.

Its a good game, I wish It had generics though and permadeath. And random encounters. And dungeons.
I really think srpgs, especially of this isometric kind, should have dungeons and exploration. It seems fitting in my opinion

I didn't like Octopath but I liked Triangle Strategy. It has one kino route.

A mostly decent game that talks too much and undermines it's mains selling point of making choices by having a single gold end

All I know is that Serenoa is a great tank in the octopath phone game.

      >having a single gold end
Where they literally use the "Triangle Strategy" (called that by the characters). Utterly baffling.

You ever try to punch a triangle? It's a good strategy.

I loved both Octopath Travelers but for the life of me never really enjoyed Triangle Strategy that much. It's OK.

I liked the part when Serenoa dropped "let us cling together" during the beginning of the golden ending.

I liked it, but it's not like octopath at all besides the art style.

I thought it was awesome but I love FFT and Tactics Ogre. I enjoyed Octopath as well but TS is closer to the former two than the latter.

Storywise it's kino, but the entire gameplay are just battles, some small parts where you can explore and persuasion mechanics. I like that you can recruit different characters depending on your convictions.
It has LOTS of dialogues and long cutscenes one after the other. Personally I wasn't really annoyed by that because the story already had me hooked (and I think that maybe that's partially due to the fact that I played the spoilerish 2021 Debut Demo, and it may be harder to be hooked from the beginning if you didn't get to play that demo and see what the story was promising for later on), but I get it if other people can't stand it.

Oh I didn't mean it that way, I just meant that there was few gameplay and much story, but, as you already know, in the end that doesn't annoy me. I should've explained myself better, I just thought someone else who isn't me may be annoyed by that and I tried to explain it from that hypothetical person's point of view.
Being honest I really love the battle mechanics.

Get ready for eight hours of cutscenes before the first two missions are over.

If you don't mind the cutscene bloat there's a very fun game underneath.

They should've added some random encounters or a dungeon, there is NOTHING to do aside from the story missions. You can engage in mock battles in the warcamp but they hardly count, and enemy variety is very limited. sRPG's NEED monster enemies, FFT got that right, even if you like the story like i did, you will very quickly get tired of the constant cutscenes and wish there was something to do in-between them.

Someone explain the constant turboshitting on Octopath to me. I've never played it, I just know it was really hyped for a while before release and is now completely reviled along with everything attached to it.

I played it for a few hours and got bored by the repetitious mechanics and the frankly ridiculous encounter rates.

It's a massively dumbed down take on the Romancing SaGa games. It got popular because it was originally a Switch exclusive and back then Switch had no JRPGs so a lot of people were forcing themselves to like it and pretend that it's good when it's just a shallow nostalgia bait with 0 depth and 8 bad stories with no central narrative. The SaGa games had at least very challenging combat and and real dungeons, but Octopath is extremely streamlined and you will fall asleep just hitting break over and over and over.

This game spends at least half of its runtime on the story scenes but the story is very poor, it's like a dumbed down anime version of Game of Thrones. Characters are surface level, you can immediately tell who's honorable, who's evil, who's a redshirt, who's evil but will clearly have a redemption arc, and so on. But that's fine, tons of anime games are like that, what's not fine however is the game is more wordy than fricking Persona 5, and the characters will repeat the same things over and over 50 times despite the story being so shallow.

Also, the choice system is the same shit as in the Telltale games. Do you surrender an important party member or make a stand to protect them from an overwhelmingly strong enemy? Doesn't matter, they fake their death and become irrelevant until the story needs them again. Do you infiltrate a castle and assassinate enemy commanders or destroy the nearby dam and flood the city? Doesn't matter, the city is destroyed in the next cutscene. And so on, none of it matters, you can pick absolutely whatever you want and the game just makes you choose from 3 endings at the very end.

This game's design philosophy is kind of the opposite of FFT and TO. There are no generic units, only uniques and customization is minimal (you basically just spend resources to rank them up and unlock the rest of their kit). You're supposed to make do with whatever you're given instead of grinding up a super team and steamrolling through levels. I kind of liked it, the game is legit challenging and some of the player units are very creative (e.g. you have a guy who builds ladders or a circus clown who can copy anyone's last used ability, even from the final boss), but the enemy variety is very poor, there no monsters or fantastic creatures at all.

I bought this on Steam for like five bucks and honestly I never got past the main menu. The controls felt like shit, like I was emulating a phone emulating a PS2 or something. Is there a way to make it feel more responsive on PC?
