I have spent like 300 hours on this game, read all the books and guides and Im still hardstuck at adept 3 or expert 1.
Mahjong is pure IQ
I have spent like 300 hours on this game, read all the books and guides and Im still hardstuck at adept 3 or expert 1.
Mahjong is pure IQ
*pure luck
not over +500 games
Yes, unfortunately. I have had games where I do everything right. I make the most effective discards, I form my hand as fast as possible, I never deal in and I still lose. Because everyone i am playing with is at a similar skill level and they also never deal in and someone just gets lucky and tsumos their tile, while I can never get my winning tile to come up, or their hand just happened to be worth more. LUCK is the deciding factor in Mahjong when everyone is playing at the same level.
OP destroyed
Just ride the flow
Where can I learn that shit?
come to my house, I will teach you the secrets of nyagging for flow
You cannot learn mahjong, you can merely reach a point where you can say things that make you sound like you know what you're talking about to people who genuinely have no idea how to play. Playing mahjong well is less about actual skill and more about whether you can convince others you know what's going on. It's kinda like being a car salesman or a conman.
>You cannot learn mahjong
This part is true at least.
Some people are born good mahjong, as soon as they know the rules (and not even all of the rules, I never bothered learning half of the hands or how the frick the fu calculation works) they will be fine. Other "people" are born as nyaggers.
fu is easy
As someone who got from jade to gold 2 I can tell you it's mostly luck and the sooner you come to terms with this the better.
low ranks are just a test of whether or not you have the self control to fold hands
you climb by not finishing last since rank loss is so minimal on 3rd place and its really easy to avoid last place since there's always a nyagger pushing 1000 point open tanyaos with 0 defense
This isn't true, you can't fold your way to expert because you get tsumoed to death
i did though
you only need to win 1 hand per south game (which often end up having 12+ total hands) to average 2nd place since people deal in so much
i have read 0 hours of mahjong theory btw
You also were born with a higher IQ, pure folding won't make you climb
>moron nyagger cope
If anyone calls Riichi or has a scary open hand AND you don't have ishanten for at least a Mangan, fold. Always. Some games you will get tsumod to death, but your main priority is to not get ronned. I placed safe in 3rd place multiple times while folding all my hands because I didn't deal in, and Majsouls is all about not getting 4th if you want to climb. 3rd place is still a won game in ranked.
It depends entirely on hand score. I remember being dealer and having a tsumo mangan against me. That was enough to keep me in fourth because I just got unlucky with trying to win anything. Either everyone was faster, or had a good idea about my waits. The one in 3rd also didn't deal in and quickly left their dealer turn with just an exhaustive draw, so they didn't suffer the same fate that I did
>3rd place is still a won game in ranked.
sure doesn't feel like it
This is just loser talk. I had no experience of mahjong before this game (other than maybe half a dozen singleplayer rounds in Yakuza) and got to expert by only going for 1st place, anything else I considered a loss.
If I was second place and could risk a massive loss for a chance at first I went for it every time.
sounds like a skill issue to me
It's largely luck, there's ways of maximizing your chances, but at the end of the day nothing can save you from a round 2 ron.
Luck is a skill
They purposely give you worse RNG if you're a gaijin
more like pure fricking gambling, have a nice day
you know what RNG is op?
you should try learning that instead
and then buy a character because those give you better odds
I only play for her feet
Me too, but I haven't played in a long time.
Talk about twisting your ankle, goddamn.
>play ranked
>reasonable occurances happen
>play friendly with /mjg/
>it is an episode of Saki and I am the nameless npc at the table
I get tilted so hard by friendly games like a b***h. Also I hate riichiing as I will have a 70% of playing into an ippatsu riichi hand should someone declare riichi after me.
Not everyone can be the main character during a hand of mahjong. Learn to hold the sands of hell in your hand, and maybe you might acquire this power.
One power seems to be that I will Tsumo more often than Ronning.
>tfw ron and ippatsu from the shimocha
Get fricked nerd. Holy frick I love gambling
I started mahjong today
I don't understand anything besides making pairs, triples and suites while avoiding 1 and 9 and the scary tiles that don't have numbers.
Just start slow and play friendlies instead of ranked. Bronze is either full of shitters that will constantly deal into shit hands, ruining your hand building. Or it is going to be alt accounts that will get to quick tanyou hands and ruin you directly. Even worse, they won't even declare riichi, just damaten. Once you get comfortable, you'll be able to quickly speed past bronze when you can out play the shitters and hopefully you won't encounter too many alts.
Barely understood anything in your post but I'll copy it so I can look up the words in game.
Friendlies with AI you mean? Nobody entered my room so I added AI when I did it
Ah, the AI is ok, though it will occasionally get lucky. It won't really "defend" though, so you won't learn anything aside from maybe how to build your hand. I would say that is fine for now. If you could play a full game against them, it would be better, but you can only play until you get to 30k.
>Tanyou
This is the "All Simples" hand. It means that you don't have any dragon or wind tiles, nor terminals. So your hand is composed only of 2-8 across the three suits. It is one of the easiest hands to make and you can do it open in this game. Normally you can't. Pinfu or "all runs/straights" is another easy hand though it has some caveats. You can't have any honor tiles and you must be waiting on a two sided wait. So your final tiles you are waiting on can be something like a 2-5 wait when you have a 3 and 4. Learning the Yaku should be your first task in trying to play. Don't try to learn them all, but ones that you feel comfortable with trying to make and just have fun against the AI making them.
Thank you for the write up, Yaku is what I'll look into a lot more. I'm really stumbled on the north south east west wind shit too and why some Yaku are not allowed sometimes but hey gotta learn at some point.
You'll gradually learn more and more winning hands, just try to have in mind the basic easy ones like all simples, pinfu, dragon triples, seat/prev. wind triples, half flush etc
Just read RB1, oh and drop the game if you don't make expert within 200 games of south or master within 500
this is when its the most fun
the more you learn about the game the more spiteful you become
For me it's the hustle and bustle of Riichi City.
If you read riichi book 1 and you're still this hardstuck, the problem is you
TONIGHT
tonight what
They're adding an obese furry character.
another one?
It is quite unfortunate, but yes. New furry male & female added.
I never paid attention to the male characters. This is the first fat girl though, if you ignore the chests on some of the others.
You
what's with majsoul and obesity anyway
what obesity? wanjirou is pure fluff and there are no fat characters in majsoul. And no, Xenia isnt fat you morons.
>Xenia isn't fat
xenicope
I hate this fricking dog like you wouldn't believe
>read all the books and guides
There are only two books you need and only one is necessary to reach your level. The problem is that you aren't "learning" anything at all. You're trying to speed through the books without understanding anything being said.
Yeah I know I'm not learning, I'm s complete dimwit who just got a shit hand in life. I suck at everything I do and mahjong is no exception, some people learn fast and some don't at all
Not your fault.
I'm the opposite of you. I haven't read any books or watched any guides besides the basics and am Jade 1. I play entirely on feel and instincts and just kind of subconsciously understand the game.
I already said its IQ anon, I purely got unlucky with my parents who were rock stupid.
im a gay japanese schoolgirl btw not sure if that matters
Gtfo I don't believe you for a second.
It's true. I've just played a lot and learned the game through experience alone.
It's all probability, which isn't hard to understand, so anybody can get somewhat good without having to read advanced stratedy.
>Other players push like psychopaths, like throwing nonsuji dora into a dealer riichi or open kan into absolutely frickall just to give toimen a few extra dora
>I make a perfectly calculated (and possibly overthought) discard of suji one chance 9p and eat riichi nomi ippatsu ura 2
just be yourself bro
heh
mahjong isn't about luck or intelligence, or the israeli trick known as IQ, it's about flow, books teach you secondary skills, no one can teach flow
if someone does well, they will continue doing well 9/10 times
if you've played for more than a week and haven't noticed this unsettling trend, you might be moronic
if you just don't want to admit that its existence is possible, you are moronic
Blaming low IQ for not being able to learn is the ultimate cope. Instead of complaining about having low IQ, you should try and address the problems in your play style instead of constantly dealing in and not realizing what you're doing wrong.
IQ is about learning though, it's the potential and speed you learn
>it's the potential and speed you learn
That is so wrong. IQ is meant to measure your intelligence at that snapshot in time compared to the population, but it has nothing inherently to do with learning aside from low IQ being correlated with people with mental impairments.
In other words it functions as more of a litmus test for some sort of mental incapacity as opposed to measuring it outright.
Are you so sure about that? How come do people with high IQs have degrees/jobs that require significant experience or learned skills?
You're approaching this the wrong way. They are intelligent because of the way they organize their life around attaining said degrees and jobs. Given that the most used IQ test relies largely on word relationships and symbolic testing, they would naturally be more successful at deriving meaning from unknown/archaic words and be better at identifying overarching structures from images. In other words their real-life experience translates well to the test.
The purpose of an IQ test is largely to test structured thinking and reasoning as opposed to the capacity to develop those skills.
room doko?
Post Hannah, you cowards.
It's maintenance. You'd have to play on RC.
mahjong is literally gambling you morons lmao
source? proof? where's the double blind experiments detailing this?
the mahjong rulebook
homie I can't read this shit
>jap version
read the chinese version instead
my chinese set didn't come with rules
so how the frick did you learn to play?
I learned how to play?
why are you asking me?
Been playing for years still don't know what the dice are for.
>still don't know what the dice are for
>he has never once entered 契约表 on a 抚 with full 抚子表
post social credit score
3.5, now what.
You did not post your quota of interracial porn today.
Care to explain?
This is just telling you how to not break the tiles.
majsoul tutorial + pic rel
>you can cook mahjong tiles
WTF Ganker you lied to me
>2023
>not cooking your mahjong tiles
its like you dont even play lmao
Why do you think people are always talking about how they want to eat the tiles?
Do not eat the tiles, by the way.
Why do you think mahjong tiles look so edible?
It's when you exchange 3 tiles at the start of a game. It's used in asura rules.
There's still a lot of skill. More skill than your moronic pokemon showdown or whatever you play.
>server maintenance
Who the frick is Charleston and why does he want to take my tiles away from me
I really want to eat a green dragon tile
it looks so chewy, like if bit into pure fondant
