The game isn't completely busted anymore, it's even pretty fun, but the update is allegedly going to improve a lot of the flawed systems. Probably better to wait even if just to avoid having the game overhauled in the middle of a playthrough.

When it comes to PC, it wasn't broken even on release day. Went through all of it on release and worst I had was a bunch of funny glitches. It wasn't very polished, but it was perfectly playable and enjoyable, people were just crying far louder than necessary because that's how internet works

It's not broken and I don't think it ever was on pc. It's still a bit janky when it comes to background npcs and traffic which is detrimental to immersion but as far as story-driven fps games go it's certainly one of the better ones. You might as well wait for the update though.

It sounds like the RPG elements are being completely overhauled so if you made a build beforehand it'd probably be completely different post patch too.

Heres some background. The story relies that you already know what's going on, so they are going to drop a lot of names and locations and pretend you already know who everyone is and where everything is at. That's going to make you not give a shit and it's really just going to make the experience goofy as frick.
The choices dont really matter either.
The story also suffers if you dont know anything before hand because it doesnt really explain anything and a lot of shit happens off screen or on logs that you read.
Those logs will have conversations and it's just weird reading a conversation happen when it's on a data pad.

the side quests are very good, the peralez quest and the penitent criminal are REALLY good. i suggest you give the 2020 tabletop lore a read, you'll appreciate the game so much more if you're familiar with it

It's enjoyable. Too much Keanu at certain points but overall it's W3 main story levels. Decent enough, not really excellent.
Good mission design around the story though, so that's worth a ton.
I'd wait for the update though, since it will change how the levelling and upgrade systems work. For the better.
Now it's mostly +5% damage or damage negation style kinda perks. You can also jack yourself up with cyberware without limitations or drawbacks. Balance is kinda all over the place because of that.
This update should clean most of the mess up.
I got it in the summer sale and havent had a bug yet. Gameplay is not super deep but its fun. I'm not a graphics gay but it looks incredible if you have a good enough set up to turn path tracing on. I get a stable 100fps with frame generation. But even without path tracing its still worth playing. The update wont change much just some skill tree layouts

I'd wait for the update, its hypothetically almost an "Enhanced Edition" to make it into the the game - or at least closer to - it should have been at launch.
I'm still disappointed by Phantom Liberty happening as a fricking sidestory before the "final mission" in the base game. Supposedly it gives an extra ending, but unless it massively overhauls stuff I'll be a bit disappointed the whole expansion wasn't set after the main campaign given the base endings. If they change all the endings a bit if you do PL, add at least one whole new ending and ideally at least one new secret/special ending then maybe it will be okay but I'm cautiously pessimistic.
If Phantom Liberty does well along with this patch, its a pity if they just frick off and not make any more new expansion or other content when we're still not likely to get some of what was promised in the base game's systems, but at least its better than it used to be.
Apparently it changes Act III a bit so at least it isn't "you call Hanako and then have her sit at a bar for the next 2-3 weeks waiting for you", so thats nice at least.
