I have unironically never played a Sonic game before. Which ones are worth playing?

1, 2, 3&k, Mania
>thihi I spoiler one, I'm so cute
This is what Sonic does to you
I just spoilered the non-retro one because some people react violently at the mention of non-retro games here
_______________yes__________________________________________
>Mania
Not retro and yikes.
Op play 1, 2, 3&k, CD and the first tw9 master system Sonics for a good time.
1, 2, CD, 3&k
Start with the first one on Genesis. If you don't like it, just play something else. Simple as.
sonic 2
probably the most wellrounded of all the 16-bit entries
Honestly it doesn't matter, they are all bad, "style over substance" over hyped games. We call them now "tech demos", because it's all show and no play.
It is not to spot around here threads about Super Mario Bros 3 vs World, whether or not 2 is a real mario, and the differences between ports.
Now, what about 'Sanic'? It has a huge number of games, and they all play the same. None comments the differences between them. It is all "Why did Sonic 3D failed" when they can barely justify the success of the 2D games.
Truth is, sega sucks. It was only worth it during the arcade tenure because back then sega arcade games had great sprites, compare them to famicom sprites and you will see what I mean.
Sonic is only worth as a windows 3.11 screensaver, that's it. Like see this for example did you know the sms had 3 sonics? Me neither.
>None comments the differences between them.
Wrong, there's lots of threads over what is the best or has good zones just like people argue over 3vsWorld. I could comment on the differences rn.
>It has a huge number of games, and they all play the same.
Mario 1, 2(JP), 3 and even World play similar. They're not identical but neither is sanic.
>whether or not 2 is a real mario
You mean they didn't swap Sonic 2 for a different game about picking vegetables..and that is a bad thing? Huh...ok I guess. Can't argue with that.
all completely skippable
1-3, Sonic & Knuckles, 3d blast, adventure 1 and the game gear ones such as sonic drift. So basically only the ones that are truly retro.
The only acceptable 3d sonic is either 3d blast or nights into dreams Christmas(and only for historical interest), jams over world is as moronic as sonic r.
The first three Genesis games were the best. Play them in order because the other two make some changes that make it hard to go back to the first one. Genuinely some of the nicest level design I've seen in a platformer.
3D Blast was interesting when I played it, but could be awkward to play now.
All the 3D games are awkward in some way, and nearly always have this bizarre style of level design where you're thousands of feet in the air at all times. It'll give you a fear of heights if you didn't already have one.
2
3&k
the first level in sonic 1 is great but it goes downhill
sonic cd is a mess
mania is a romhack that doesn't stand on it's own
Agree that 2, and 3&K are the golden "trio". After that, Sonia Mania is a solid choice.
Replaying Sonic 1 now and I really dislike the losing all your rings mechanic from enemy collision since it makes it a fricking chore to get extra lives.
So many seething classicpurist shitters in this thread.
I bet you flio shit when you see green eyes irl
You have to play it youself to find out if you like it. Get sonic 1 on sega genesis. Play it all the way through. It is a marvelous game.
None of them.
2 is my fave, 1 is kind of gay because no spindash and there are very few rings so it's hard to get lives. But if you're new and need some guide rails I'd reccomend 3 base game as it's piss easy
If you're totally new don't go for 2 you'll be violenty sobbing while eggman buttfricks you
1, 2, 3&k, spinball
Play Rise of Lyric and only Rise of Lyric so you can say you've ironically played a Sonic game.
Is Origins a good way to experience the classic games after all the updates and patches?
For 2D play the Genesis games, for 3D play the Dreamcast games
I'd say go for the 8-bit ones since Sonic runs slower and is easier to control.
2
that is all
>Sonic 1, 2, 3&K
>Adventure 1, but only playing >Sonic’s and Tail’s campaign. Maybe Knuckles too
>Sonic Mania
Want more?
>Sonic R, Sonic The Fighters are somewhat fun for a bit
>Sonic Riders
>Sonic Heroes (But only as Team Sonic or Dark)
>Shadow The Hedgehog
>ctrl+f
>no advance
god sonics jap era was so based
>jap era
what? sonic has always been japanese
Just make a Sega Hate general for fricks sake. Stop flooding the board with this.
Every Sonic game up to Adventure is worth it. After that I have nothing to say, I disliked all 3D sonics, sadly.
1, 2, CD, 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic R
2
start with 1 for a bit of context tho
3 is good but gets boring after the first few levels iyam
never really played the later sonic games other than the early gamegear ones (of which Chaos and Triple Trouble are the best) if you're interested
Sonic 3 and S&K are actually best played as separate games, not locked on, otherwise the game is too long. Classic Sonic is meant to be beaten in one sitting, and you can't really do that with S3&K.
S3&K skip everything else, people saying otherwise are just petty contrarian homosexuals and anyone saying s2 is the best only says that cause it came bundled with their genesis and its what they grew up with, also classicgays tend to have a stick up their ass about the s3 sprites because it makes sonic look actually cool and not wholesome and friendly like their precious mickey mouse popeye mgm shit

>make game where main selling point is speed
>design half the game around waiting for shit to move and navigating through slow underwater areas
what the frick was their problem?
I keep saying sonic's not about speed but no one listen......
*make a game where you can go fast if you're good at the game but westerners made some shit up to get the game to sell better
Anything before SA1
I always turn it off when I reach this part
Why?
>Which ones are worth playing?
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for Master System.
It's much simpler compared to the Genesis title, even has completely different levels, and Sonic's moveset is also simpler, which I think is perfect in your situation, getting into the series and all, and probably familiar with traditional platformers, as in Mario and stuff. Here you just go from point A to point B, with some exploration if you want to 100% it, and some different paths, though still it feels like a more traditional platformer, but with more speed and momentum than normal. It's an absolutely fantastic adventure.
3 is typically considered the definitive Sonic game.
