You get the PWT and Black Tower/White Treehollow instead as the non-Battle Tower challenge facilities, including rentals. It's not as good, but it does mimick a lot of the functionality of the Frontier.

It is heavy RNG to what you are get and get pitted against. There is a setting to tone it down in some way but it is still a lot of random.

Yes. But being able to fuse your mons, getting new type/stats/moves combo, inverting the fusions and getting something totally different is really fun. You can make totally broken mons (basically every slaking fusion with a decent ability) and destroy everything in your path if you want. There are also many randomizer options to make every run different

Lol, the game dev and his troony discord mods censor everything they can, they even asked a spriter to change one of his sprites (a great looking one too) because it showed a 1-sprite-navel and that was considered too hot. If you want coom stuff you'll have to get it from the infinite fusion threads on /vp/. Still, the base game has tons of amazing designs, look up the torterra fusions if you want to see some samples.

Get Pokemon Arceus not Scarlet, it's MUCH better. They're not even close. Arceus is actually a good game. The atmosphere is really comfy, the gameplay is fun, it's not padded out to shit like a normal Pokemon game. There's even some solid side quests.
Fellas, I played a romhack called Light Platinum on a DS emulator and it was awesome. Writing and story is jank but in the first hour I was fighting trainers with full teams. I had to make a solid team of 6 just to get through areas. Most fun I've had with pokemon

OP you honestly have not been missing out on anything. I stopped at the third gen and the remakes. The series I'm telling you has largely been the same shit only it continues to get inferior story wise but slightly improved gameplay wise with each iteration. It became hella fricking stupid where these pokemon became gods and the gangs look increasingly moronic and have increasingly dumber goals. They aren't a bunch of criminals anymore working like an organized gang the way Team Rocket was. These new gangs function like typical JRPG evil factions now its really lame.
You should have played the second gen games since they are fantastic follow ups to the original. They essentially are sequels to Blue. After that though the way the games work is basically like reboots every gen where you do not even need to play the last game to get into it. They sell them to kids after all.
I could elaborate further but I feel I covered the basics well enough. You aren't missing much. Its largely the same shit you remembered with the same exact formula but slight changes each time and with typical JRPG trash.

If you can emulate them with good specs to get past the terrible fps caused by the spaghetti code, go for it, conceptually they're very good games, but GameFreak can't program for shit, the fact that a game like that can't run well on the Switch but Xenoblade, Zelda and Bayonetta do is bullshit.

Scarlet and Violet are... complicated, conceptually they're probably the best the franchise has been since gen 5, but the amount of technical issues can be a deal breaker, only play these if you have a PC that can emulate the games with fixes.
