I heard Ganker was warming up to Twilight Princess after all this time. Can any anons confirm? it's about time those who praise Ocarina of Time to acknowledge TP as well honestly.

No. Long shitty intro, shit wolf mode, unappealing graphics and designs, can't chooce dungeon order, lot of unnessecary dialogue and handholding, was not impressive at the time or now. Game like ww tried to at least do its own thing.

Agree, replaying the whole series and everything between MM and BotW is completely mediocre, the praise TP gets here is bizarre. WW gets points for cozy art style and killer music as well as being able to knock weapons from enemies hands but is hilariously easy, simple dungeons, and for some reason the lighting seems more dynamic and interesting on 64 releases

the intro is god tier though, it beats the barebones nothing burger of OoT. the transformation is the most versatile in the series too.

Genuinely how can you enjoy enduring such a drawn out intro. Oot has one of the greatest introductions in gaming, it gives you a playground to test out all the mechanics with comparatively little dialogue. You're just wrong, it's not a matter of opinion

        Anonymous

        >enduring
you're looking at it the wrong way. it's very immersive and there's a lot of variety in the moment to moment gameplay.
it's more like how can't you find yourself enjoying something so engaging.
        >it gives you a playground
then I missed the memo there? all you do is crawl through a hole to retrieve a sword, then grind 40 rupees out. it's pretty damn boring. nothing is happening!

          Anonymous

It's totally open and you can experiment organically with every single mechanic instead of being railroaded through tutorials. It's an absolute masterclass in introducing the gaming world.
          >so engaging
Lmfao not even a little bit

          >defending a full 30 minute tutorial
Give me a fricking break lmao. This isn't the only problem with the game, mind you, the combat and the most important thing, the dungeons, are a snorefest, and the wolf mechanics break the game up into awkward seperate chunks.

            >It's an absolute masterclass in introducing the gaming world.
NOTHING IS HAPPENING, you braindead Black person.
you get more experimentation with more mechanics in TP. you're on a horse within two minutes, and you can't even ride one in OoT half the time.
            >defending a full 30 minute tutorial
what in the frick are you talking about, there's only a two minute tutorial for the sword, and a two minute tutorial for the slingshot. the sidecharacters interject comments while it happens showing off some personality too.
you only have to get 30 rupees for the slingshot even. you also get to run through the woods exploring and sword fighting, and Midna never stops the player the entire game to tell you anything.

Give ME the break, I fricking deserve it.

I think I found the problem, you need to be told exactly what to do. You aren't open to experimenting in TP, you are railroaded into long winded tutorials. In OoT you are open to run around a playground designed for you to approach and practice everything you will use in the game if you so want. Try to put yourself in the shoes of someone experience the game for the very first time.
              >what the frick are you talking about
It takes ages to get out of the town and waaaay longer to get to the first dungeon, in OoT you can get to the first dungeon in a matter of minutes. You are being dishonest.
Its ok if you like the game. I think it kinda sucks dick and am happy Nintendo dropped the formula.

I have never understood why so many people complain about the intro. How fricked up with ADHD are zoomies that they can’t sit still for 30 minutes AT MOST while they are still actively engaged with mechanics the whole time (and not just watching a cutscene like in every AAA Sony game). And it goes faster if you’ve played it before and know the sequence shortcuts. AND if it still bothers you that much, just make a fricking save copy after the tutorial and pick up from there on subsequent playthroughs.

I liked the 2D games from that epoch:
Oracles, Four Swords, Four Swords Adventures, Minish Cap, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, ALBW and Tri Force Heroes were very fun.
I'd call 2001-2010 the golden age of 2D Zelda.
But that era seems to be over. 9 years since TFH, and 11 since a proper single-player 2D game.

Imp Midna is unironically 40 pounds of pussy and ass. She's just floating drumsticks with a smug single fang grin. That's not even artists exaggerating it, her body mass is actually 80% in her cheeks, thighs, and pot belly. She's not a pear, she's a lightbulb. They had to know exactly what the frick they were doing. I refuse to believe otherwise. People being creepy frickers and sexualizing the Inklings and the bird girl from Wind Waker and all that shit, sure, that's on the fans. But Midna being a forty pound pussy that grinds on top of Link's head and bosses him around is 100% on Nintendo. Her imp form was actually MORE sexualized than her true form, which is astonishing since her true form is literally a completely naked woman in harem silks with black bodypaint covering over her bits.

Then that means you don't understand how hyped TP was at the time. It was propped up to basically be the second coming of Christ, a return to form from the baby artstyle of WW and a true successor to OoT. The E3 reveal was arguably the biggest reaction in the conference's history, even the PS4 price reveal wasn't quite on its level. It's no hyperbole to say that Twilight Princess was one of the biggest pre-release hype cycles of all time, and anything less than God's breath out of 10 was blasphemy. Ironically, 8.8 is a very fair score for what is a very solid game.

Midna is the worst character and gameplay mechanic in the series and the game insists on her being the main character instead of Link or Zelda. It's shit. The humans look like African monsters with deformed faces. It's shit. The combat is brain dead and most of your arsenal is completely useless by the end of the game and only serve a purpose in specific areas to the point they may as well just be keys. It's shit. There are only two remotely good dungeons and even they follow the formula of "go to middle room then go to side room then go to middle room four times." It's shit.
Twilight Princess is and always has been shit. Even Skyward Sword is better, and that game is also shit. Twilight Princess is Densetsu no Kusoge. Midna is an obnoxious Mary Sue, Zant is wasted, the menus are bad, the characters are ugly, the dungeons are repetitive, it tries to be mature and dark but comes across as extremely juvenile and sophomoric, it's just shit and it will never stop being shit. It's shit.
