Because it's a solid casual experience. The campaign is a AAA experience and the severe foundational flaws only become glaringly apparent at end game.
The whole "your build is done at level 30 and the everything after is grinding for no reason but to make numbers go up" only really feels like a problem after the 2nd or 3rd playthrough when you skip the campaign.
So the first 20-40 hours is a good 8/10 experience until you realize that is basically the entire game.
But for an arpg game where it's not uncommon to put hundreds or even thousands of hours that is incredibly bad. But again, that's only apparent after you've already put in several dozen hours.

Anything I should keep in mind when playing? I've played ARPGs before (Diablo 1-4, Torchlight 1/2, Titan Quest, Grim Dawn) so I'm relatively experienced with the franchise, D2 and Grim Dawn probably being my favourites, though I do have a guilty pleasure soft spot for post-expansion D3 as a "speedrun map and grind everything into a red smear on the floor" simulator.
Diablo 4's annoying padding and bad patches have made me put the game on the backburner for now.

they haven't had a banger league this whole time they've swapped over to all hands on the PoE2 deck. And adding Exilecon stuff on top isn't going to help. PoE1 Leagues have been skippable for like a year+ because of it. I really love Expedition, it's my favourite modern / non-nostalgia league, but that's about it. This whole time they are just coasting for PoE2 and doing stupid "hey we're just experimenting even if its worse just try it pls" patches that have almost killed half the playerbase just to hype PoE2 whilst expecting us to play a shit league in PoE1 now.

Didn't the last league start up right before/after the D4 beta? It hit peak numbers but no where near close the hype people say POE has. Like if POE's Steam numbers, being a F2P game and all, hit 1 million peak I will be impressed.

Yes. By the time it's announced, the current League will have been running for almost 4 months. And it'll likely be another week or 2 before the new League actually drops.
And then PoE2 beta later this year, followed by PoE2. Exact timings remain unknown.
Kalandra was all we got after a SIX MONTH drought because they decided to be incredibly lazy in Sentinel.
Don't expect anything incredible.
If PoE 2 is still far away, then the League is going to be big content. If PoE 2 is released late this year or right after xmas, then we're going to get some kind of small filler-League, like the one we had when Act 10 patch was about to come up.
It will most likely be the final plot patch of PoE1, and the main story moving patches are usually pretty damn good. Basically they have to set the stage for the events of whatever moves us to PoE2, most likely heavily involving continuing the maven story and may include zana.
Let's be real here: anyone who still buys and not to mention - defends Blizzard products online has an IQ of 90, at best. There really is no point in trying to convince these WoW sub buying morons that PoE is the better game.
