The majority of the negative reviews are people either repeating censorship bad and the game's history of it, actually detailing the full scope of why the update is bad, or just woke namecalling. I wasn't expecting this review bomb to go from 54 reviews to over 1100 and counting in under a day, but I think the reason it did is because the opposition to the review bombing is so fricking flimsy that it made more people look into it and realize the update is obviously bad. I hope it gets worse.

I got most of my playtime on PS4, own it on Steam too after buying for a buck. I've been pissed about censorship since Xenoblade X. That was eight years ago. Things have only gotten worse since. The majority of the negative reviews are people either repeating censorship bad and the game's history of it, actually detailing the full scope of why the update is bad, or just woke namecalling. I wasn't expecting this review bomb to go from 54 reviews to over 1100 and counting in under a day, but I think the reason it did is because the opposition to the review bombing is so fricking flimsy that it made more people look into it and realize the update is obviously bad. I hope it gets worse.
Not only that but the arguments against the censorship are not generic either, these are genuine people who supported it on kickstarter, had hundreds of hours played and detail actual reasons why this is bad, and their dissapointment than the generic "GO WOKE GO BROKE" slogan. Frankly it doesn't matter if someone plays or not, it's okay to not be a fan of people censoring games after you've purchased them. Especially when it's not the original creators doing it. As more and more games become digital only, this will be a bigger problem.

Skullgirls is an anomaly IMO. It's a small, horny anime fighter that's very niche yet has received constant support over decades even across massive shakeups to the dev team. I think most well-funded live service games wouldn't really be as perverted and weird as Skullgirls is in the first place.

If they can pull the plug or remove shit from your game after the fact, what's stopping them from literally just making Skullgirls into a port of mobile or (if Skullgirls 2 comes out) downgrading the game to make it play worse to drum up hype. Changing and specifically removing shit or the ability to even play something you purchased after someone has bought a copy has incredibly dark implications about consumer rights and ownership of things in general.

The majority of the negative reviews are people either repeating censorship bad and the game's history of it, actually detailing the full scope of why the update is bad, or just woke namecalling. I wasn't expecting this review bomb to go from 54 reviews to over 1100 and counting in under a day, but I think the reason it did is because the opposition to the review bombing is so fricking flimsy that it made more people look into it and realize the update is obviously bad. I hope it gets worse.
Not only that but the arguments against the censorship are not generic either, these are genuine people who supported it on kickstarter, had hundreds of hours played and detail actual reasons why this is bad, and their dissapointment than the generic "GO WOKE GO BROKE" slogan. This is just an extension of shit people like Ross Scott and other people worried about forced patches/online only shit have been saying for decades about dead games and games in general. If they can pull the plug or remove shit from your game after the fact, what's stopping them from literally just making Skullgirls into a port of mobile or (if Skullgirls 2 comes out) downgrading the game to make it play worse to drum up hype. Changing and specifically removing shit or the ability to even play something you purchased after someone has bought a copy has incredibly dark implications about consumer rights and ownership of things in general.
