It did alright considering how late to the party they were for the genre. Blizzard used to be good at coming into an emerging genre at the right time with the right game. The problem is trends move too fast and they expect everything to be a Starcraft level genre defining game that is played as an e-sport for decades. Overwatch was a big release, but battle royales came and shat on hero shooters while they had already dumped money and expectations into the OWL that they now had to prop up.

HoTS at least admitted it was more casual and did something of its own that worked surprisingly well unlike LoL which is literally Dota for braindead subhumans. Because people are playing Blizzard games, WoW is still one of the most popular MMO's. Diablo 3 still gets tens of thousands of players each season. I don't know the exact stats for Overwatch (can you tell?) but to say no one is playing them is just misinformation. Especially when you consider their sales are going to be enormous for D4

I unironically don't see the problem, but I'm not someone who consoooooms and has to have every piece of DLC in existence. If this pays for free endgame content then it's fine.
I use to think like this till I realized that its exactly because SOME people buy them they start putting everything behind that price tag, so as someone who doesnt buy any of that shit there is no content being added to the game for me, and all the best content is behind paywalls instead of just being in the game.
It is the quickest way to make me know that the game is going to have very little variety and Ill have to pay extra to fix that. So even though I dont buy the stuff it affects my experience just having it in the game.
I mean the cosmetics, the best cosmetics are always paywalled, so everyone looks really bland unless they shell out. I imagine its incredibly limiting for the designers because they cant just make good designs, they have to consider what is going to be price tagged and what isnt and cant just make everything look good.
have you seen the examples in the blog post? I'd say the paid cosmetics looking better is debatable. The only good one out of the four is the bone helmet one for Rogue.

I wasnt. arpgs suck right now. poe is probably the best one to play just casually through the story because you have so many options and the game is actually engaging at times.

I feel like devs forgot what makes these games fun beyond getting random loot and seeing enemies die.

I use to think like this till I realized that its exactly because SOME people buy them they start putting everything behind that price tag, so as someone who doesnt buy any of that shit there is no content being added to the game for me, and all the best content is behind paywalls instead of just being in the game.
It is the quickest way to make me know that the game is going to have very little variety and Ill have to pay extra to fix that. So even though I dont buy the stuff it affects my experience just having it in the game.

I mean the cosmetics, the best cosmetics are always paywalled, so everyone looks really bland unless they shell out. I imagine its incredibly limiting for the designers because they cant just make good designs, they have to consider what is going to be price tagged and what isnt and cant just make everything look good.
have you seen the examples in the blog post? I'd say the paid cosmetics looking better is debatable. The only good one out of the four is the bone helmet one for Rogue.

It's just that for many people (myself included) diablo is still a very dear franchise and seeing all that shit in it really hurts.

I wasnt. arpgs suck right now. poe is probably the best one to play just casually through the story because you have so many options and the game is actually engaging at times.
Diablo 3 combat was ok, it felt smooth.

I feel like devs forgot what makes these games fun beyond getting random loot and seeing enemies die.
