I just beat Legend of Legacy and enjoyed it at first, but later on I got more annoyed by it. The stat growth and skill acquisition mechanics I enjoyed, but battles really grinded the game to a halt. You are limited to a three person party. So inherently you're limited on how many actions you can do a round. It does seem that the developers intend for the player to have a designated defensive character that uses a shield to block in coming attacks for everyone. So now you go from three people that perform actions during battle to just two since you need someone reducing the damage your party receives or they'll end up folding in battle. So now if you encounter five or so enemies you really don't have the fire power to end battles quickly. Then later on when you gain more spells it becomes important to use elemental shields on your party to further reduce incoming damage. The problem is with how magic works in battle. You have to "contract" the elemental magic to shift it to your side of the field before you can attempt to cast a spell. So in later battles your first turn is shifting the element to your side, second turn is setting up an elemental shield, then on the third turn you can start acting against your foes. This gets even worse when later on when enemies aren't bound to your rules and can cast an elemental barrier and shift the element to their side of the field within a single action. That would normally take the player two. Now you're playing elemental tug of war to get the element on your side of the field or the spell will fail casting if it isn't on your side of the field.

All of that creates drawn out battles. If there were more characters in a party and the magic system was trashed then this game would be more entertaining.

It was made by the metal max devs so you shouldn't have expected anything over a 3/10 tedious and shallow experience.

It wasn't, and Metal Max is a good series.

Yes it was, they made 4 metal max games and none of them are good.

          >Another moron who thinks Fu-Ryu/Cattle Call is a single dev team
First off, the game director was Kyoji Koizumi, who was the main battle programmer and one of the main mechanical designers for the SaGa series.
Secondly, of all the people in the minuscule dev team, only THREE out of NINE people that weren't graphic designers worked on SOME Metal Max games
          >Kazuki Takei
Main system Programmer, was also the main system programmer for Metal Max Xeno
          https://www.mobygames.com/person/842730/kazuki-takei/
          >Takafumi Akiyama and Tomoki Tauchi
Programmers, also programmers for Metal Max Xeno only for the former and the latter was the only true MM veteran in the team, also a programmer
          https://www.mobygames.com/person/842732/takafumi-akiyama/
          https://www.mobygames.com/person/302404/tomoki-tauchi/
Then you have the graphic designers, some of which have worked on Metal Max Xeno among many other games.
All of this can be easily found

So no, you're still wrong and moronic, and Metal Max is still a good series

            >Another moron who thinks Fu-Ryu/Cattle Call is a single dev team
Because it is. I don't see falcom fans doing mental gymnastics over 15 people designing 5 different series. You said the game only had 3 people work on it but that's ludicrous, the soundtrack alone had more than 9 people working on it. Seems like you don't know what you're talking about at all.

Should have known the person who blindly shits on games is a Falcom homosexual
              >You said the game only had 3 people work on it but that's ludicrous,
No you illiterate cretin, I said of the NINE people who worked on the actual GAMEPLAY part of the game only THREE of them were involved in the development of SOME Metal Max games.
The soundtrack was made by Masashi Hamauzu who has nothing to do with Metal Max, he was picked because much like Koizumi he worked on SaGa games, the game is a spiritual successor to SaGa that has nothing to do with Metal Max at any level.

I'm also playing it and for some reason, the mobs always act first, bianca has very little hp and you have to constantly watch over her hp, which leads to only one dude attacking. The battles become too long and boring, also the skills are mid and to cast magic is a pain the ass. Nothing fun about this game.

Did to change your characters stances? I don't know if leveling up support will make you act sooner, but being in a support stance over a guard or attack stance allows you to act sooner.

Eventually you'll get ricochet for a shield skill which negates damage and not reduces it, but yeah that's the problem with the game. You have so few people to take actions and you're expected to defend with a person nearly every battle and the elemental tug of war just lengthens battles needlessly.

I found the foil/short sword techs as some of the worst in the game. You get so many and they have a low power level. A shield is essential. Bows are really good for their AoE attacks and the enemy cannot retaliate to ranged attacks, but lacks a good counter attack since you just eat damage. Unarmed is okay but as you get advanced weapons the weapon attack overpowers unarmed. On the other hand unarmed has a ranged attack, two counter attacks and a guard, then two debuff attacks. Great swords do high damage, but I didn't like their counter attack. I didn't get to use spears much since that was on my shield guy.

This game would be so much better with 4/5 characters in a party and contracting elements was removed.

That's not even scratching my damage values later on. One turn I do 500 damage and the next turn I do 1,100. There is nothing that I know of notating if those enemies can reduce damage. When the enemies have elemental walls up I understand, but not the large damage variance when there is no apparent damage reduction.

I played it on 3DS. It's just ok. I think most SaGa style games are pretty shit aside from Legends 1-3. A lot of the random combat can be beaten without a tank up front. But you do constantly need someone for harder randoms and bosses which can drag it all out. The game is made for short term handheld use and grinding.

I love tanking but Etrian Odyssey has this problem too. Too much lock/key and not enough EHP

Yeah tanking is alright. I like that you can unlock shield skills and one of the advanced skills is a retaliation skill so you negate damage and deal a huge amount back. In Romancing SaGa 3 I didn't have an issue with this for one you don't need to take defensive set ups for standard battles, and two you have five characters in a party so the action economy each round doesn't feel as limiting. I enjoyed using the desert lance formation to lure enemies to attack Robin using matador counter attacking bosses.

Are you the guy seething that no one likes wotr? These threads always get bumped together.

No, I haven't made a WRPG thread here. In fact it's hard to discuss those kinds of games here due to the sort of people it attracts.

First thing you should do in Legend of Legacy is learn how the stance system works. Make sure you unlock the hidden stances too because some of them are really good.
Next you need to pay attention to the contract and field system. Dominant element has a HUGE effect on your performance. You cannot ignore the shards and expect to win.
If you need to grind for new moves early on, go fight the Archwings in Roaring Valley, later on you can transition to the Bogsaurs and the dudes on the Summit.

I started playing a few days ago and I don't think its as hard as people have been making it out to be.

It isn't hard, it's just tedious due to how slow battles are. Three characters and often times one is dedicated to defense and frequently needing to use a turn to contract an element to just start using magic. That slows battles to a crawl compared to other RPGs.

Proper field + equipment setups can drastically reduce the amount of incoming damage that you're taking to the point that in some fights that you won't have much need for having someone on dedicated tank duty.
Many monsters in the game don't contract spells which allows you to do whatever you want once all three contracts are up. You might have to let someone refresh the field every third/fourth turn if needed but its no big deal.
Also, because enemies in this game are so fast for whatever reason, there's no reason to not use the Delay/Anticipation stances since the turn speed penalty is a non issue. Had Bianca effortlessly outputting 1k damage even in air fields.
