I just completed Code Veronica X for the first time, I absolutely adored it.

I don’t get why people complain about the backtracking in CV. The whole fun of the old games is going back and opening up new areas and solving puzzles that you couldn’t get to earlier. CV does that really well.

Code Veronica X appreciation thread.

I never beat a "classic" resident evil before. Hopefully that will change one I get my Dreamcast because I really want to play the RE games (and dino crisis)

the problem with CV is the gotcha moments with character switching
if they simply foreshadowed when you'd switch and that your item box is shared, I feel most people would be rather neutral about this game

Huh. Not him but didn't know. I started replaying Code Veronica recently and not sure I wanna restart just for the sake of those extra Wesker cutscenes.

The additional Wesker cutscenes aren't great & the Wesker vs Alexia scene on the Dreamcast is better than the version that shows up in CVX.

This game has the best glitch in the series, the playing manual glitch (thanks Kanzenban/X edition), virtually unlimited explosive arrows for the win. Best puzzles and OST in the series also.

People dont like it because you have to think, to sacrifice, to save ammo.

People blame the game for their own inability to play it. I think house of the dead is more their style

I think it's the part were it makes the player place items in the box on the metal detector area, newcomers find it tedious while trying to figure out what they have to do, and that stays with them after finishing the game.

First ever RE game I played (PS2 version) from some RE Essentials Collection. It was good but largely outdated by modern standards. Tank controls are extremely off putting. There are far scarier horror games.

I still remember how the graphics of that game impressed me back then

Did anyone ever figure out why the knife was so busted in this game? Saving all those handgun bullets at the start really helps, especially when you get the upgrade parts

I got bored of the game when I thought I beat it then realized I had to play as Chris.

Code Veronica will always cause me pain cuz my strongest memory of playing it is that I was flirting with the guy who'd eventually become my first boyfriend while shooting zombies, and he broke my heart later.
But anyway, the game is fine, but it's too long and hard compared to the PS1 games. The PS1 games can easily be beaten in 1-2 hours if you know what you're doing. Code Veronica still takes me 7-8 hours and some stuff is bullshit.

Because the mansion and RPD are big circular areas with interconnected routes you unlock and open up as you progress. CV is just a bunch of linear dead end corridors slapped together and the bulk of the gameplay is running to the end of Corridor A to get a key item and then running to the other side of the map to use it at the end of Corridor B. 3 and 0 are also guilty of this but neither are as obnoxious about it as CV. It's like all their map designers just up and quit after 2.

It was the first RE game I played. I don't know how I powered through, that early part is so ass. The ambush at the cemetery, then the metal detector bullshit, then the 3d printing of the emblem. What a shit sandwich, who wouldn't quit after going through all that weird garbage? And then not having ink ribbons to save more than once or twice or whatever while you're doing all that bullshit.
No doubt in my mind it's the hardest RE game, I don't know how I didn't give up on the series after that
