I am a HUGE Platinum fan, but this was just completely broken. The controls are kinda wonky, the vast majority of the skills you get throughout the game are totally useless, and the are way too many enemy attacks that can't be avoided, no matter how quick you are.

        >and the are way too many enemy attacks that can't be avoided, no matter how quick you are.

Agreed, it constantly punishes you without any good reason other than "difficulty".

No it doesn't, you just have to be frequently switching legions and using their abilities right.

It's one of the most 'okay' games I've ever played. The only parts that stand out about it in my mind are the chapter where the monster chases you through the city and the final boss being a ridiculous difficulty spike.

I just thought it was boring. Gameplay wasn't engaging enough and i dropped it.

I liked it because it activated new parts of my brain, controlling two characters at once. It didn't last too long either.
All in all one of the simple titles I enjoyed the most this past decade

Your money's worth involves enjoyment. If you didn't like it then finishing it doesn't give you any value.

It literally took away more of your life than needed.

    My experience with Astral Chain:
    >get the archer
    >encounter harpy enemies for the first time
    >got stunlocked
    >die
    >end game
Should I have ranged them out or something?

I hated the dub-tier voice acting in this game. Platinum is usually way better at voice acting than this.

It's not shit, they just needed to remove the moronic stealth bits (because that is always pointless in an action game) and do more investigation stuff instead.

It's not shit but the combat was not exactly shallow but very limited (there's things to do but they don't really provide that much freedom), the pacing was slow, the ranking system is poorly designed, the enemy design is really mediocre for the sake of giving you reason to use Legion gimmicks meant for puzzles in combat (also damage numbers over reeling animations for regular enemies is dogshit). Great visuals & music though and it has some very nice bosses. Story is ass but a Platinum game with a good story is the exception. 6.5/10, better than TMNT & Babylon but I'd play any other Platinum game over it.

Astral Chain was excellent. Great soundtrack, cool setting, cool legions, and fun combat. I'm tempted to believe a lot of people never really got the combat down, once it clicks it's extremely satisfying. It just takes time to get going because you need more legions and their skills. For people that complain about mobility, you should be frequently using the beast legion's ride mode. Also chain jumps with a fast moving legion like arrow. You gotta set up combos for crowd control like using the arm legions gravity bomb to group enemies together then using a strong AOE move once they're lumped together.

I appreciate that each Legion has uses that make the combat flow if you get good about switching from one to another. It's that the enemies aren't fun to fight, the ranking system is awful, 30FPS with drops, the actual player character barely does anything themselves (I get that you're working with your Legions but that aspect is the only part of the combat that has depth while each Legion is limited and Akira is a puddle).

I thought the moveset depth was good because it's about both the player and legion together, not just one of them. It just takes a while to unlock all their command abilities, sync moves, and ZL moves. Setting up combos like sending out the beast, having him spin for a bit, then stun with roar, chain jump to him, then switch to axe for a heavy finisher was good. The only issue was that combat wasn't frequent enough in the beginning and it took too long to get all the legions. Id' like to see a sequel with even more time/effort/money put into it to flesh things out even further and make better levels. The astral plain was cool but they could've done a lot more with it. I don't mind 30fps so that didn't really bother me.

What are some other platinum games or arcade combat adventure games worthwhile for switch. I like platinum even if this title cops criticism on this thread.

In terms of Platinum games on Switch it's really just the Bayonetta franchise, Wonderful 101 Remastered, Automata and Astral Chain. AC is the weakest of all those games so you're only going up from there; AC was directed by the guy who did the gameplay for Automata but it has way better presentation/story/music to make up for the middling combat. Outside of Platinum you've got Devil May Cry 1 & 3 on there, and 3 actually has features no other port does (outside of modding on PC).

I got Automa, I may need to revisit it then, I never played it through on PC, started the switch version beat the first mech, entered the suburban environment... Somehow doubled back to the beginning factory area and couldn't find the exit back again. Probably makes me moronic, but I'll give Automa another go.

The only thing I remember about this game is that the female protagonist had an extremely detailed animation for the way her shorts moved on her ass during her walk animation, like stretching and creasing realistically in tune with her step.

It's decent. Not one of Platinum's best but I really like the setting. Combat system felt like it had potential but was never used to its fullest and had a lot of useless bloat. A sequel with more refinement could save it.

never felt like switching legions mattered just pick the one you like playing and use that for 90% of fights you also get the greatsword one way too late on
story was pants on head moronic
at least i got this wallpaper from the ending area

    >Cool concepts, cool aesthetic, cool visuals, all around you can tell the creative side of things was firing on all cylinders
    >Middling performance, gameplay suffers from "first entry"-itis (needs to figure out what works and what doesn't), game is a bit too short with far too little truly unique content
All in all it's a 6 or 7 that could easily hit an 8 or maybe even 9 given the right care.
