I just finished this, Trials of Mana remake was pretty good, they did justice to the soundtrack, what are your thoughts on this? The only issue is how they didn't try to put coop in this. Maybe adding more hotkeys for items (add shoulder button + triggers, the other shoulder button and analog click to make it 8 hotkeys) and make the item system always to be realtime to make coop possible without people pausing the game every time they use items or cast shit would be nice

i think they forgot to add enemy AI because everything encounter in the game is a glorified punching bag
I'm doing a second playthrough with the other 3 chars I didn't use in my first, now with Riesz/Charlotte/Kevin and I went for harder difficulties, they have shorter windup for their moves which helps a bit to increase the difficulty but then i'm also using the 300% exp thing and that's kinda broken good
the 300% exp passive is basically there to help you grind to get ready for no future mode, since finishing a run then using other characters gives you all the chain abilities from the last team you used
no future mode sets your characters back down to level 1 btw
They hid a few higher difficulty modes behind New Game+
all three of the starting options are essentially just Easy, Easier and Easiest.
They made the most impact on the mini-boss fights, though. Normal roaming encounters always seemed to be punching bags.
I felt the combat lacked weight and the voice acting was inconsistent but overall it was a solid game.
I was absolutely hooked until I saw that you needed to grind those ??? Seeds for further class changes. I quit because of that, and I was super deep in. I just stopped playing and never touched it again. Maybe I'll try it again one day because it was a charming little game, but jeez whats with jrpgs and obtuse upgrading systems? i like class based gameplay
if you're not a consolecuck just download a cheat engine table and add the ones you want in
seed grinding was always the worst part of the original and its the one aspect they didn't fix in the remake
im a switchcuck.... 🙁
F to you my friend
See
I managed to get enough ??? seeds from the god beasts dungeons without needing to grind shit but yeah this system is horseshit. Getting the best gear for your party requires grinding rainbow seeds which is even more annoying, without grinding I managed to gear 2 out of 3 chars, then I hunted 20 rainbow seeds, didn't get lucky and decided to beat the final boss with Duran not having the best shit ever, this was not a good idea
In the original SNES game you can just save and reset to reset the RNG over and over until you get what you want.
In SNES emulators you could just abuse save-states.
??? seeds now follow a set pattern, no repeats until you get them all. At most you'd have to get 6.
You don't need to grind for the seeds. All of the benevedon dungeons have a chest with one ??? seed inside, for a total of 6.
If you plant them at the same time you're guaranteed to get all 6 possible class items you need.

Cope.
shut up charlotte, you are literally only good for fetid brap debuffs
>Valsena
honestly its better.
>Benevedons
Shouldve been malevodons but its benevodons for series sake shit. God Beast is still cooler though.
>Edelfrei
A title of a rich dude does sound lamer than Sword Master.
>Fatal Fist
>Divine Fist
Biggest downgrades. Gene is sad he lost a fellow God Hand.
>Chawwotte
Was always Charlotte. Honestly better for the memes.
>Riesz
It was always Riesz(as well as Hawkeye), Lise was neat though, but Riesz it is. Both are good.
Go figure its Iori Yagami of all people who helped settle it.
malevodons appear in one of the ds games as fusions of the benevodons
I know, its why they're not just that.
Surprised they didnt add that in this game as post game stuff. Then again The post game dungeon is pretty fail.
yeah its very "oops we ran out of funding" but the class 4s are fun at least, and the black rabite got a cool glowup
>honestly its better.
It's inaccurate
>Shouldve been malevodons but its benevodons for series sake shit. God Beast is still cooler though.
Japanese is Kamikemono(God Beast). Flammie's kind is this kind of creature too in the JP version.
Benevodon was chosen by some localization troony in one of the spinoff games where the God Beasts were benevolent.
>Was always Charlotte. Honestly better for the memes.
It wasn't possible in the fan-hack due to character limitations. Same with Hawkeye ---> Hawk.
>Lise
Misinterpretation of katakana.
See pic related, even fanzines at the time got it wrong.
>Riesz
Riesz is accurate but "Benevodon" is not.
In the Japanese version they're called 神獣(Kamikemono) which translated to God-Beasts.
Benevodon is fricking stupid because it implies the beasts are benevolent. In SD3 that's clearly not the case.
God-Beasts is the more accurate neutral term.
It's Shinjuu.
this is interesting. looks like i'll be finally finishing Trials of Mana
Square remake done on a budget is my new favorite genre. this game was super good. It's just fun to breeze through. It makes me miss B-movie type game releases. co-op would have been nice but the budget probably stopped it. I wish I could get around to doing a run with the other 3 characters. I only like doing grappler/valk/mage
It's one of the biggest issues honestly. on both of my runs I got consistent good upgrades. but on other runs someone can just be stat gated entirely.
sexy
Shit remake. The best thing the original had going for it was the beautiful sprites which are now replaced by shitty PS2 graphics and awful GUI.
>they did justice to the soundtrack
YIKES.
It sounds like some amateur remixed it in FLStudio.
At least it has an option to use the original soundtrack.
no co-op no buy-op
>waiting until after the god beasts to get class 3 instead of just getting them as soon as you get access to the mobs that drop seeds
lol
which monsters drop ??? seeds that you can access before the god beasts part of the game?
none, but you can grind the mobs in those areas before actually fighting any of the bosses, or just go through each area to where the chest with a seed is to get all 6 you need to unlock all the classes
It's a solid 8/10 game and a good example of how to properly do a remake compared to the shitshow that is FF7R.

You mean Jagan, wetawd
poor kappabro gets replaced with a flying dragon so fast. He had a short time in the sun.
it was like that in the original, but i there where some secret spots you needed him for.
I'm not usually a coomer about ingame models but god damn reisz and angela are so fricking good
>dark saber is locked behind dark/dark class 3 on two characters
>its only good in one area in the entire game and effectively worthless in the final dungeon and postgame area
>saint saber is locked to the same characters in light/light classes but is only bad in one area of the game and extremely good everywhere else
lol
it's good ta be light
You disappoint me Ganker so I'll have to do it.
>The curvature of this woman...
blessed thread
I want to nut inside Angela right before I walk up to the altar to get married to Riesz.
I like big breasts, this game doesn't disappoint
I wish the previous Mana remakes didn't disappoint me. I wanted to see Secret of Mana 1 and 2 with the same kind of 3D camera.
Yeah I liked it too, it was a surprisingly enjoyable game for me even though I didn't expect it to be.
I remember hearing about how they're making a new Mana game for consoles, brand new no remake, hopefully they nail it, with certain refinements in a class system, rework the stats to not promote you spreading it all over the place, like how some fighter classes gotta put spirit/int to unlock certain skills, kinda sucks for making builds that just make sense, you know. Also hopefully they don't make it into another game that tries to be dark souls but does its own thing
i hate angela having a different element tied to each stat, you have to pump int for your main damage stat and you're almost certainly investing into spirit as a secondary stat for MP cost reduction and light/dark spells, aint nobody going deep into strength or stamina until they're like level 80+ and have int/spirit/luck already done
>echoes of mana
>frequent updates
god almighty, at this rate it's going to exceed five gb. and not to mention the dead co-op being unplayable. they really should have planned Echoes to be some spinoff.
The art style of the Mana series always felt like it's not made by Square Enix. When I think Squeenix I think moronic asymmetrical clothes, one arm covered with a detached sleeve and the other is sleeveless, the belts, moronic over-designed oversized weaponry, the whole visual package comes across as "tryhard: the style" to me. Trying too hard to look cool to the point it crossed the line of looking lame as frick. It's good to see that someone in that place has actual fricking taste and knows that restraint is important
>The only issue is how they didn't try to put coop in this.
This is the only reason I haven't bothered playing it much. They did everything else justice, from the soundtrack to the general aesthetic, but co-op was a crucial part of the game.
i hate kevins voice so much
that's because they hired no name actors.
I don't mind any of the human characters but god most of the elemental spirits sound so fricking bad
japanese one is fine
Why are you playing the game dubbed in the first place?
Actual best girl swoocing on in.
good choice
>has been on my shelf for almost 2 years now
>still brand new, even with the plastic on
Frick, I really need to stop playing genshin and focus on my backlog
Yeah, you really should stop playing chink spyware gacha.
PUFFY!
>chinkoid gacha player
Don't post here.
I really like the little music that plays when you change class, I wish this version was also used after a boss clear and for every time you get an elemental sprite
It's one of about five good remakes in existence.
it's funny how Action JRPGs such as Dark Souls and the Mana games offer stat distribution, this character building aspect that many games that are considered more of JRPGs than Action games don't offer at all, not saying the attributes system of those games are amazingly well done but it's a peculiar thing
>they did justice to the soundtrack, what are your thoughts on this?
bait
How so?
What's wrong with the soundtrack?
Its basically the same songs but with newer instrument. Sounds awful because when you bring an old midi song to modern you cant just replace the instruments and thats it, you have to rearrange it and add more instruments to create harmony, otherwise sounds empty
midi music isnt built exactly as real instruments music
not that anon, I don't see anything wrong with it
I thought it sounded fine though. There's definitely smallish differences in arrangements for, say, Different Road in the remake compared to the original. But the songs were also fine so there was no reason to try and frick with them too much beyond just using better instrumentation like with the PSP versions of Persona 2 and the result generally works.
Better they do that then try and make everything sound like "epic" music or worse, replace it with something shittier.
Power scaling is way off. Game is hard at the beginning because your characters can't do anything but attack. 1st class change drastically reduces the difficulty because you can employ actual strategy now. 2nd class change makes you OP as frick and completely trivializes everything.
Angela's husband.
frick the light path, dark/dark Duran is the best
Dark Duran or Charlotte are absolutely forbidden you fricking goddessless heathen.
The English dub was insultingly bad but I'm not moronic so played in Japanese.
Besides that I loved it! I played SD3 on SNES co-op netplay a ton as a teen. Was cool to revisit the game.
After playing Live A Live I wish they had just used that remake engine instead though instead of fully 3D.
I downloaded the demo to give it a go to see if it was my cuppa since I like action RPGs. Picked the generic sword dude to get a feel for the game, made it a bit past the cave after meeting the little girl with the speech impediment and playing as her for a while. Then I got bored. There just wasn't really any meat to the combat, and the RPG elements didn't start mattering in the time I played. I suppose that it would've picked up eventually, but it didn't hold my attention long enough for it.
It does get some more depth as it goes on but if you didn't like the demo I honestly don't think you would like the full game.
Yeah. no hate, I understand it's a pretty faithful remake and I'm not gonna expect the world in terms of gameplay from old games, it looked pretty charming too. But I only got so much free time, you know?
>only got so much free time
That's actually something I like about this game: You can absolutely rush through it in a weekend.
JRPGs don't need to be 50+ hour affairs, and this game absolutely isn't.
Not saying you should pick it up for this reason alone; there are better ways to spend 10h.
I quite liked it. Usually I can't commit to this style of game but I completed this one.
Co-op would have been very nice.
Like, right now, it's a very average game that I just enjoy due to nostalgia.
They did good on the front, though. It's amazing how faithful it is in every way that matters.
With co-op, it would have been GotY.
