I just realized something.

I just realized something. This one right there, yeah, the one that mfkas call "a best nfs" even better than underground? This is what ruined the whole nfs franchise and brought shit like hot pursuit, run, heat, or whatever the frick else they have been pumping out after, because people eat this shit spoons full.

It's exactly the same story that happens to borderlands. The vision of the game got shifted in every direction expected the one that people actually enjoyed the game for.

I don't understand complaints like this. The game has a built-in option to remove the filter, you don't even need a mod.

Carbon is a straight up downgrade, with blue filter and blur instead. It's precisely where NFS died.

        Anonymous

Filter is whatever and you can turn off blur. Things that actually matter like track design and car handling/tuning are imroved greatly

          Anonymous

Filter is shit and the track design is just inferior to MW. Handling is almost the same but now tires squeal every single time you turn.
They only new features Carbon added that are worth noting are the braindead touge mode, that can be easily cheesed and the also braindead drift events, where hitting the walls don't reset the score and you always end with a 10x higher score than your opponents.

It's not my fault the game is easy. That's a challenge event btw, it's the car the game provides you. Story mod is equally stupid, you just need a heavy car.

                Anonymous

                >game is easy
Debatable, carbon suffers from a severe case of rubberbanding that kicks in about half way through the game making some races harder than usual if you don't have the right car. Thankfully I was smart enough to use the lotus elise with the stock transmission exploit and blasted through most of the game until I had enough to buy a Z06.

                Anonymous

Nah it is easy. Here, just did another one. This was supposed to be "hard" according to the event description.

As for the rubberbanding, people memeing the NFS rubberband but it work both ways, if you are playing like shit it'll suck too. It'll never be truly hard or braindead easy. The point is to just be challenging. But in the case of these touge events, nothing helps because they are badly designed to begin with.

They are a distillation of the ideas that most wanted initially brought in. Again, just like with borderlands 1 and 2, only the wrong ones.

Racing was solved by underground 2. Whatever happens it's a deviation from the formula, or rather "exploration of new narrative focused concepts" as corpo would put , a deviation that no one asked for and like, only then praise and cheer its initial growth without realizing.. to this day.

Underground was a trend chasing deviation from the original NFS formula.
Ricergays crying about NFS changing will never not be funny.

However, Need for Burnout: Hot Pursuit was not the way forward.

That said, I enjoy NFS from 2SE through ProStreet, and I appreciate Shift.
For a major franchise the fact that they were ready to experiment as much as they did was commendable.

But because Fortnite is making so much more money they'll keep trying to create Fortnite 2.0 no matter how many studios they need to grind through in the process.

EA has had this mentality even before Fortnite was a thing.

That's not what happened. Black Box studios were imploding from within in the late 2000s. Had nothing to do with EA.

                >had nothing to do with EA
                >On December 19, 2008, EA announced that it would be shutting down EA Black Box's Vancouver studio location and relocating operations to EA Canada's Burnaby facilities, as part of EA's worldwide consolidation plans. Officials stressed that EA Black Box would remain open, and said they expected the move to be completed by June 2009. The studio remained a part of the EA Games label, and was independent of the EA Sports studio also located within the Burnaby facility.
                >In February 2012, EA confirmed a number of lay-offs at EA Canada and EA Black Box, and that they were transforming the studios towards "high-growth digital formats, including online, social gaming and free-to-play". EA declined to comment on whether EA Black Box's brand would remain.
                >In July 2012, EA Black Box was renamed Quicklime Games during the development of PC game Need for Speed: World, under which name it operated until its closure in April 2013.

Personally I found the early game bounty targets more painful. You're locked to heat 1 and 2 where you almost have to obey the speed limit so the cops can keep up

    The series didn't get ruined.
They just ran out of ideas.
Your standards were raised as you got older, you had no nostalgic attachment to the new games, which in turn had nothing new to offer you. There is no reason for the series to still exist yet they insist on borderline annual releases. And the industry demand everything be a franchise with endless sequels.

If Unbound came out as the follow up to Underground 2 it would be remembered as one of the greatest arcade racers of all time. And if MW came out after, it'd be forgotten.

BMW owns all three (3) production cars themselves. Any talk of "issues" is just zoomers speculating based on nothing.

The strassenversion was a weird amalgamation of things from the bmw parts bin. But mostly it was just an e46 with the detuned engine from the race car and an aero package.

They were also individually hand fettled from regular M3 bodies, it was never intended to be manufactured in any scale whatsoever outside of the race cars and a couple of street registered bait cars to technically qualify under the then-current ALMS rules. It's an interesting parallel to the 911 GT1 program where Porsche pulled the exact same shit of dropping a bespoke prototype in a series intended for production cars, but at least 25 of them were actually manufactured and sold instead of technically offering one for sale.

Porsche has a massive legion of rabid fans and they make good enough cars too. They dominate motorsports by sheer numbers alone, in the series that the M3 GTR raced in, almost every team was driving Porsches. I think there was also an Aston Martin and a Calloway team, but the rest were Porsche.
Porsche drivers are also insufferably bad at driving. buttholes may drive BMWs, but Porsches are driven by the morons who start traffic jams. If you've ever played a sim-oriented game like gran turismo, you'll figure out why everyone hates porsche in a single race.

Friendly reminder that both in most wanted and carbon the M3 GTR uses the sound from a TVR cerbrera since they couldn't get a hold of the actual car for recording.

Carbon was the peak. Most Wanted was 1 step forward with police chases, and 5 steps back on everything Underground 2 established. Absolutely no reason to explore the open world. Zero reason to engage with the police chases unless you were doing the Pursuit Challenges you needed to progress the game (which were all one of 4 repetitive tasks except number go up). Oh boy, I can't wait to dodge 40 spike strips for the 15th time for two hours because the game put an arbitrary roadblock on my progress for shameless padding because they cut 4/5ths of the content from Underground 2. Reject Most Wanted, embrace Carbon.

    >Hot Pursuit
Not remotely based off of MW. There was NFS3 Hot Pursuit, High Stakes and Hot Pursuit 2. Hot Pursuit (2010) was just a Burnout clone because that what Criterion does.
    >The Run
Not like MW. Not open world, and the driving being bad was because they were experimenting with using Frostbite.
    >Heat
This is like MW. Except the thing that made MW good was the indestructible player car that allowed for players to toss cops around like they were nothing. I'm fine with having a health bar as long as I can get quick repairs. I think MW (2012) gave an okay attempt, and Rivals did well to make chase fun but that was more like Hot Pursuit chases. What MW fans want is the ability to send cops flying again with little consequence to their own vehicle.

I enjoyed MW more than Underground for one reason. It has cops. Underground 2 was good for being the first open world game in the series and Underground's unique customization features should be standard in all racing games at this point.

i'm an expert in what the average NFS fan needs in a game

O button on playstation B button on xbox is now the tiktok boom sound.
You no longer have a boost gauge, you now have a melanine meter. Fill it by being on the fleek and getting hyphy with your crunk.
All user music will be monitered. If the n-word isn't said by a groid every 7 seconds, OR any lyrics are understandable and not muddled behind shitty fruityloops kicks and cymbals the game will stop and the user will have to take a knee for george floyd for 30 seconds.
Game now has an option to play itself in half-screen mode while someone traumadumps a made up story about how their girlfriend kicked them out of the polycule because they didn't get a hug from their father
No white characters. All light skinned black characters are friendly, all dark skinned characters are evil.
Winning races is no longer required. The character can now just do donuts in a circle and aquire points. You get multipliers for every fat latina girl hit
Revised car list now includes volvo wagons, Cadillac escalades, Kia souls, hyundai velosters, and of course, the porsche taycan
Voice acting by Hassan "The hun" Piker as the judge of the emote dance competition segment
No more credits and currency. all cars will be gifted to the player in 12 car slot machine rolls after every event. Additional rolls are avaliable for purchase from the cash shop for 15.99 a month(Min 12 months) or 7.99 per month pro pass which brings each spin down to just 3.99 for the first 3 per month.
Less intrusive anti-cheat now ONLY requires a constant webcam with facial recognition, live mic feed to check for any banned words or phrases, copy of IRL drivers license submitted to EA servers for verification, EA Protect now only scans 3 times per hour for sytstem specs and uploads to EA servers during loading screens, and finally a valid credit card to bill any language or competing software infractions directly to card.

Most of 360 stuff got ported. PC is middleground between Console and 360.

Not bad unless you are really autistic about few stuff.

                Anonymous

Not really, PC is simply the last gen version. It's missing a lot graphically, you can't even import some shaders since the engine is outdated. The dev working on that mod had to do a lot of reverse engineering to bring some effects, others are just impossible to port, according to him.

The soundtrack is definitely something I worry about. Most wanted capitalized on the edgy aesthetics popular at the time, filled with metalcore and hard rock for its race tracks, and it fit well. Slamming nitrous on a straight, smashing through a roadblock, while hand of blood or decadance played just hit in ways no other racing game has. I recall one of the reasons I disliked carbon was because it’s soundtrack sucked, especially if you chose exotics to play since it was all shit rap music.
