deuteranopia? im not sure what the difference is

deuteranopia is pure dichromacy, deuteranomaly means you have trichromacy but your green perception is fricked

          Anonymous

True tetrachromacy does not exist in humans btw

            Anonymous

It does, there are 2 women diagnosed with it. But their extra receptor type is between L and M, kinda useless.

              Anonymous

It isn't true tetrachromacy in the sense that their color space is fourth dimensional
They just simultaneously have normal and anomalous L and M receptors like many women do, but their brain interpret the normal and anomalous signals simultaneously to perceive more contrast

          Anonymous

anomaly means you can still have some green discrimination (not as good as a normal person), anopia means you cant see it at all. anomaly is more common than anopia.

I dont know how accurate this test is. In the windows color filters, it shows a color wheel and it has 2 greens that look exactly the same, putting on the filter makes one of them more blue

What would ultraviolet actually look like if you could somehow get it from an ocular receptor to a human brain? Would your brain just slot it into the visible spectrum and narrow what you already had or would it create an entirely new colour for you?

Colour is fundamentally an experience created purely by your mind so who knows?
How would sensing electrical fields like sharks "feel" like?
        Nobody can know

        Anonymous

Ultraviolet rays are usually invisible to most humans. The lens of the human eye blocks most radiation in the wavelength range of 300–400 nm; shorter wavelengths are blocked by the cornea.[6] Humans also lack color receptor adaptations for ultraviolet rays. Nevertheless, the photoreceptors of the retina are sensitive to near-UV, and people lacking a lens (a condition known as aphakia) perceive near-UV as whitish-blue or whitish-violet.[4] Under some conditions, children and young adults can see ultraviolet down to wavelengths around 310 nm.[7][8] Near-UV radiation is visible to insects, some mammals, and some birds. Birds have a fourth color receptor for ultraviolet rays; this, coupled with eye structures that transmit more UV gives smaller birds "true" UV vision.[9][10]

          Anonymous

Well that's the part of the UV our receptors are still sensitive to
What if you extended that range even further?

            Anonymous

Extend too far and you go out of UV and into X-Ray territory

        Anonymous

My best guess is it'd just extend what you see as "purple". Maybe with some difference in shade. So you could tell the difference between "common purple" and "only I see this purple" colors. But I ain't no brain engineer.

          Anonymous

Purple and violet aren't the same thing, not that we'd know it because we see them the same way.

        Anonymous

Imagine someone with color blindness, and trying to explain to theme exactly how you (presumably a functional trichromat) see color. They might get the general idea, but they won't be able to visualize it. But at the same time, that kind of color vision makes perfect sense to you. It would be like that, except you're the color blind person. If it were possible for some people to see other wavelengths, it would make perfect sense to them, assuming that it's an evolved process and their brains are properly adapted. If technology lets us simply perceive those wavelengths, I doubt our brains would "know" what to do with that information.

What you're forgetting is that they still need the "light" to come from somewhere. Seeing x-rays doesn't help if there's no x-rays to see. That's where the radioactive flashlights come in. Ever met an agent who claimed his flashlight is broken, yet still insisted on pointing it at you and refused to toss it? Yeah that flashlight was working fine, just in x-ray spectrum. That's why you should always carry a geiger counter, to tell when the CIA is perving on you.

There is a problem with these plates that even if you are supposed to NOT see something, your brain will still recognize shapes and patterns and filter out "noise". So I still see lines on first two despite them being hidden behind "visual noise" and very clear line on third one.

You're supposed to be asked to trace a single unbroken line or two. Not a chaotic one with branches.

        Anonymous

There's also inconclusive arguing about what to do with it on the file upload history and the talk page. I think the Wikipedia dorks have got their sources mixed up. I don't see the supposed Plate 29 that's on the article anywhere on the internet, let alone the credited sources, but the image caption is definitely from the source saying that a *line* will be traced by color-blind people since that's what that group of plates is testing for, yet people are seeing a "2" and not a line. The guy who reverted it back to the current one only reverted it because it was low resolution and doesn't have anything in it (which is true, but besides the point).

Can anyone who's medically diagnosed with red-green deficiency try to trace a single unbroken line in the image?
