Games like the recent zeldas and xenoblade 3 feel pretty bland when compared to earlier entries in their respective franchises. I think Star Fox is another good example of this, compare Zero and the battle begins to every previous installment in the franchise, they both feel absolutely devoid of any personality in comparison

I think the other thing is that Omega’s design isn’t as interesting as Gamma’s. Omega was given plantigrade leg structures, two full functioning, five fingered hands and is barely taller than the rest of the cast while shorter than Eggman. Which admittedly is funny since technologically, Omega is clearly more advanced, but that clunkiness to gamma made him cool in my eyes.

You can ignore the Knuckles OCs for the most part. Most of them get offed offscreen before Flynn arrives, and the remainder get offed before the reboot. The only ones that you really need to remember are Pink Knuckles, Papa Knuckles, and Dominatrix Knuckles.
Don't ever touch the main Archie continuity and you'll be fine. Fleetway, Mega Drive, the IDW series and Tails gets Trolled are all you should bother reading

You jump and you collect rings and you go fast and the game is 100% responsive at all times and it never takes control away from the player and its completely skill based and there are alternate routes and there is no open world.

Yes. It also lacked falling damage compared to other early platformers, like Donkey Kong. It also beat Doki Doki Panic to having throwable objects by 3 years.
Game is still a fast and entertaining playthrough from the golden age of arcades. Plus Flicky is the oldest Sonic character technically, if you even count her as being the same character.

What would be a good co-op Sonic game. S3+K gives you Tails, but you mostly just exist for boss fights and the occasional ledge to fly up. SRB2 has full co-op, but if you're just playing the levels without some silly mods like Tether, they're mostly just a race. Shadow the Hedgehog with the co-op mod arguably comes the closest, but whether the other player matters depends a lot on both the stage and the objective in that stage you're doing.
Seems like an interesting design issue, given that they're games where players can easily get separated, and 3D co-op platformers in general aren't so much a thing outside of puzzle platformers.

I think the other thing is that Omega’s design isn’t as interesting as Gamma’s. Omega was given plantigrade leg structures, two full functioning, five fingered hands and is barely taller than the rest of the cast while shorter than Eggman. Which admittedly is funny since technologically, Omega is clearly more advanced, but that clunkiness to gamma made him cool in my eyes.

You can ignore the Knuckles OCs for the most part. Most of them get offed offscreen before Flynn arrives, and the remainder get offed before the reboot. The only ones that you really need to remember are Pink Knuckles, Papa Knuckles, and Dominatrix Knuckles.
Don't ever touch the main Archie continuity and you'll be fine. Fleetway, Mega Drive, the IDW series and Tails gets Trolled are all you should bother reading

Gotta be honest. These fan-fiction tier recolors constantly be added to the comics makes me completely uninterested in reading them. I'm cool with some original character but Ian and co. have this hard-on for adding characters whenever they can and have no restraint.
What would be a good co-op Sonic game. S3+K gives you Tails, but you mostly just exist for boss fights and the occasional ledge to fly up. SRB2 has full co-op, but if you're just playing the levels without some silly mods like Tether, they're mostly just a race. Shadow the Hedgehog with the co-op mod arguably comes the closest, but whether the other player matters depends a lot on both the stage and the objective in that stage you're doing.
Seems like an interesting design issue, given that they're games where players can easily get separated, and 3D co-op platformers in general aren't so much a thing outside of puzzle platformers.
