What caught my eye is just how overpowered the beat down can be. Not sure what to think about melee having that many kills for each game. Not even grenades are listed. Melee is second only to whatever the primary rifle weapon is and in 3's case not far behind at all which is strange considering you cannot sprint in that game. I could only imagine how much worse beat down kills got with Reach many more months later than shown here and the 343 games.
Melee is listed that much because it has a medal, unlike the other games. Notice how headshots outnumber melees in Reach.
But you need to consider the default gametypes. Half of Halo 3 was AR starts, and the best use of that gun was to just W+M1 until you got close enough for a punch. I still agree melee is busted, but there's a good explanation for it being so high.
Melee is still very busted. Maybe those maps were a little too small or maybe the equipment also has something to do with it. There was also the sword as well. Halo has never really been balanced. It weirdly enough has been such an unbalanced series that being unbalanced is where it gets its balance if that makes sense. People just had to always adapt to the inherit unbalance of the games and how strange the mechanics can be yet that gave Halo its identity.

Playing Infinite now. The open world was not a good idea, but it's a very pretty open world I suppose. An open world that looks like a Halo game. I'll probably finish the campaign, which I didn't for 5. The grappling hook and being able to chuck explosive barrels are good additions to the combat.
Multiplayer is alright. I love mutual melee kills; they make me giggle like a loon. This customizable armor system is shit, though. Even putting aside all the ways they try to get you money, why the hell are there seventeen different kneepads to unlock, and why can't I wear the Mark VI??

Why did halo become so popular? What made it so good. As an FPS, it doesn't do anything special but have its own little feel, the same way every other FPS has a feel (or the way it handles). Despite this people held halo up as peak FPS and have been begging for it reclaim that position for, like, the last 10 years +

It had no competition and was finally a console shooter with good controls, that's about it for the multiplayer at least. Campaign was popular because it was enjoyable for three games.

H4's graphics are technically impressive but the art style is atrocious
Halo 4 looked terrible, game had a brown filter on everything, the lighting looked horrible and too bright at times, colors were muted, you can barely see shit at a distance, textures look like mud and would bug out at times, some aspects were clearly unfinished with an example of being on the Forerunner level near the first tower, near one of the beacons if you stand at a certain position, the entire building begins bugging out and disappearing, .jpg backgrounds. I can go on, shill.

I can see your other points, but this sounds like hyperbole to me. I usually don't think of the color brown when I think of Halo 4's visuals.
Halo was known for its colorful ranks, Halo 4 got rid of it and so you can barely see shit at a distance because of it. The Covenant looked like they belonged in Gears of War but even that had better variety. Don't even get me started on the Prometheans. You're also making me remember that shitty HUD that covered most of the screen along with the annoying shield sound effect.
I agree with the Covenant thing. Their redesigns were fricking bad. Prometheans can at least be made out at a distance (except for the different Knight variations).
