They offered him royalties but he just wanted a flat check instead because he was a b***h with no faith in CDPR. We're not even talking about a large amount of money here so he absolutely deserved it.

He was in no way coerced. He REFUSED royalties when the first Witcher was being developed because he had zero confidence in CDPR so instead he settle for a flat payout. He came demanding more when games turned out to be a success. Basically, Sapkowski is a drunk who will sell his IP to whoever will pay him.
He hates The Witcher because he didn't write it how he wanted it. Instead of writing his daughter-wife epic he was convicted to write his rpg party to sell a series of books (that tell no story and goes nowhere really).
I don't know. The story collections are generally considered better than the novels that focus on Ciri and having an overarching story.
