>you will never experience age of empires for the first time ever again
Still one of my favorite RTS experiences right next to red alert. The only newer RTS i liked was perimeter and impossible creatures, and even those are 20 years old
The future of RTS is RTS where you can zoom in onto any unit and play it in FPS. It'd be fun to create a huge base and scenario then take control of a grunt hero and enter the battle. Makes me fricking FURIOUS that Kingdom Underr Fire failed and tried some weird MMO bs.
MOW didn't have a first person view - maybe for snipers, I don't remember. That new Men of War-like does, but I can't recall the name
The name is Call to arms, in my opinion direct control is the worst aspect of the series, when I make an online match I always turn it off, because it just turns the game into a worse match of War Thunder instead of a proper tactical game where you coordinate multiple units at the same time.
I remember a game or mod from a long time ago that was a team-based game where all the players on the team played like an FPS, but one player played it like an RTS, placed buildings, and could direct the other players like an RTS.
They missed the chance to turn AOE1 into a game like the 2, with unique units and buildings for each civilization, with a better proportion of buildings and unit sizes, making it a more complex and fun game...
Savage did it. i miss that game
1997s aoe unironically looks better than whatever the dogshit in op is
Stainless Steel Studios (the guys who made Empire Earth) were actually working on a game that did specifically that. Unfortunately Midway fricked them mid development and the game released as a half finished mess, even ended up bankrupting Stainless Steel in the process.
This was way back in 2006 and I'm surprised no RTS developer ever tried it again.
That's one of those gimmicks that sounds cool until you actually get it then realize it's superfluous bullshit, like being able to ride the rides in Rollercoaster Tycoon 3.
Indeed. A LOT of games have already tried this and it falls flat for the majority because these are fundamentally different game experiences. Ultimately you are either playing primarily for the experience of being the grunt or you want to be the commander.
Crusader Kings 3 has a ongoing mod that does this but the battles playout in Mount and Blade. Janky as shit currently but is such a great concept I have to keep following it.
Spellforce sorta did it, not with any unit just your main avatar, and not an FPS, but still - you could walk around and fight in 3rd person like some sort Dark Alliance or smth.
battalion wars on the gamecub/wii sort of did this though it was real time tactics not rts but there were various units that could be commanded with counters, etc but you also controlled one in 3rd person and could switch freely
The most dumb fricking moronic meme take ever created, how the frick do you concile the need to control multiple elements in order to execute a strategy with being fully immersed in a single unit you fricktard?

Well AoE 1 DE stays true to its original which on one side is a good thing, on the other it is an RTS from 97, AoE 2 DE last DLC ported AoE 1 gameplay into its engine but at the cost of its orignal campaigns which got replaced with new ones., although I think, but Im not sure, that they are bringing a few of campaigns back. So if you just want in for vs AI + new campaigns and new civ in AoE 2, then this could also be an option. If you want to look at other series the CnC/Red Alert remaster was pretty good and I think that offers more than AoE 1 DE. There is also the Homeworld remaster and Homeworld Cataclysm or whatever the hell it is called now. Definitively a must for all RTSs enjoyers out there, although it might cost more than $30.
Most players, aka noobs, try to "secure" their economy and town and research while trying to hold off attacks before venturing outside to crush the enemy one and for all. That leads to 15 hour slogs against ai, and instant obliteration when its pvp. Dont do that.
Age of Empires 4 was a huge let down for me. I played the campaign and a few skirmishes against PC, but then stopped. I'd really like another Command and Conquer game, but that probably won't happen any time soon.
>Command and Conquer game
I want to know why the hell EA is waiting for a CnC 2/RA 2 remaster, considering the remaster of the first ones seemed to have been somewhat successful, or at least it well recieved.
Maybe they are just spitteful that they accidentaly made something actually good for once.
Do you think that RTSs are dead? Yes/no, why?
Actually don't ask me anything, frick off.
thanks for the blog post anon. keep me updated the next time you play a video game
i will friend

Men of war already did that 15 years ago.

Not having DC on also prevents your enemy from cheesing you through bullshit long range shots the AI would never take

has this even been tried in a recent tech gen?
divinity dragon commander I think
also I remember an older game that did it with roman and egyptian stuff
Try Silica
call to arms
I was just about to play against ai

did you have fun?
who is your money on?
If I had $30 is it worth buying this game or a something highly rated I haven't tried yet
Do you have AoE 2 DE?
Yes

Don't tell me how I'm supposed to have fun against AI.
did you have fun, anon?

Why is everyone too stupid to create what RTS games really need?
An RTS __MMO__
can you still build a bunch of stone gates next to each other to act as pseudo-walls that the ai can't figure out how to attack or breach
that time wasn't wasted. you played a good game and had a comfy time. no questions needed have a great night anon
what did you learn about how god built our reality?
