>ignore FF7 Remake for a long time because there's no way it'll be good
>eventually cave, decide to give the game a try but my expectations are low
>it's actually okay
>certainly not a masterpiece but still enjoyable
>the newly added characters are kinda cringe but they don't really matter so whatever
>ending is dumb but I think I get where they're going with it
>guess I'll have to wait for part 2 to see if it'll turn out any good
>oh well, time to start the Yuffie DLC
>first half is okay, kinda boring though and even easier than the base game
>second half just keeps getting worse, there's barely any story and it's just move to room, kill enemies, move to next room, kill more enemies
>suddenly a plot twist and everything gets really edgy for no reason and I'm figting dudes in bondage gear
>final boss is literally Shadow the Edgehog who has skeleton wings and Kingdom Hearts powers, and constantly talks about DARKNESS
>it's so bad it makes me retroactively hate the game

I'm not even going to buy part 2 when it comes out, I get the feeling it'll be tainted to the roots with this moronic Dirge of Cerberus Kingdom Hearts bullshit.

The base game is not good either. Endless padding in warehouses and factories and constant "go here! no go there!" busywork main quest. It's a shit game.

I thought it was okay but I seriously do not understand how people can say it's better than OG.

They judge it just for the graphics and the renew sound, and probably for the fillers, but the original one was better.

Victory has defeated it. Baneposting aside I understand the complaints that FF7 is such an important game that any attempt to frick with it is going to be met with complaints instantly. At the same time there's a bunch of shit about 7R that bothers me. Case in point Honey Bee Inn and the Wall Market in general. In 7 the slums fricking suck. Everyone there is either struggling to get by or a full on degenerate. The Wall Market is supposed to be an oasis from that. But it's still the slums. The Wall Market is a place where everything is for sale. Drugs, junk, and yes even sex can all be bought for cheap because it's a brief, cobbled together distraction from everyone's shitty lives. In 7 the Bee Girls were always there. But you could visit the backrooms and see the actual people. One of them is disgusted that you would invade their private changing room but doesn't even try to kick you out. Another one is freaking out over her figure because she might get booted back on the street.

But in 7R it's a full on Broadway show. These people are not only throwing parties that would make Shinra's

Why'd half the post get eaten?

Anyway my general point is that 7R is louder but more artificial. A quote from Motobu "Lightning is like a rose" Toriyama is that

        >I came up with the idea to make the scene more of an extravaganza, and have it take place during a musical number on stage.

Which just flies in the face that these are poor and ignorant people that put together a love hotel in the ghetto so they can have a nice place to frick that isn't a fricking gutter. Does Andrea go looking for sexually ambiguous people every night to build his shows around?

The original is one of the worst games I ever played, so anything is better by default.

I feel like I'm one of the few people that like what they did with the story (of the main game, not the DLC).

It's not just a remakle, it's like a meta-remake. It's a remake made from the perspective of people who've already played the original and know how it's going to work out. That's why you get flashbacks from the original, including Aerith's death as well as the very last scene where you see a completely extinct and overgrown Midgar where the only living beings are Red and his cubs. It's like saying, if you knew you could save the world but all of this would be the cost, wouldn't you want to do better? The Whispers are introduce relatively early on as a force that stops you from doing things differently from the original game which in a meta sense is the voice that says "this is the way the first game was, so this is the way the remake should be." And then in the end you kill the source of that voice and open up all possiblities, with the characters literally explaining to you that they no longer have to follow the course of destiny, with destiny of course being the events of the first game.

It's thematically powerful and I'm a huge sucker for a meta-narrative like this anyway, so I can't help but appreciate it. Now of course, they explored this theme in pretty much the most hackneyed, unsubtle, on-the-nose way imaginable which is where they definitely deserve some of the flak they received, but I think the real value of this "twist" is going to have to be made with the sequel. It's the main disadvantage of a last-minute twist/cliffhanger like this: Its value depends entirely on how well they're going to handle the payoff from that cliffhanger, which we won't see for years. Of course I do have my doubts about whether they'll stick the landing. I truly think that this theme is great, but in terms of raw actual writing SE hasn't exactly been on top of its game for FF7R and as the OP indicates the DLC intermission is even worse.

I don't agree with him on some small points, like the combat. But this video did an excellent job of articulating how I felt after I finished remake. And I almost never watch these kinds of videos.

Sure I could, but I feel the video did a better job than I could, and others might find it interesting. As long as it's on topic, what's the issue? Do you only want videos with millions of views?

I'm not watching a 40 minute video just to find out the opinion of some Anon. If you want to talk about how you feel about the game, just put it in a post.

            >I'm not watching a 40 minute video
Okay, so don't. I didn't post it for people who don't want to watch it, I posted it for people who do want to watch it. I first saw it in a thread a few months back and liked it.
Besides it's not like /vrpg/ moves quickly, this thread will probably still be up in 2 days.

Why are zoomers so allergic to edge so suddenly? is it because everything has to be ironic or light headed for them otherwise they cant relate?
Nero wasnt "shadow the edgehog", hes a super soldier that went mad because they went overload on him with mako power, literally an extreme case of, lets say, sephiroth. Its an unstable experiment, hes not edgy because he just want to be edge, hes literally built that way.
You are confusing edge with angst. When the character is annoying and "dark" because he wants to and not because it is part of his backstory and/or theres reasons for it.
As for the rest, i dont understand what made you flip like that. It is a DLC aimed to introduce and play a "new" character, yuffie. Of course theres gonna be a lot of fighting, it is an ARPG. Did you want more cutscenes? i dont get it

      >it's not actually edgy, because he has an edgy backstory (that's never even mentioned in the game)!
      I don't get this logic.

Basically you're wrong to dislike Nero for being edgy because there's nothing wrong with edge.
But you're also wrong to dislike him because he's not even edgy.
There's no way you can dislike Nero that he'd accept.

          What
Ive disliked vincent in the og because he was too edgy. Ive disliked the edgy phase of Joshua in trails in the sky. My point was not that he should not dislike it, but to be this allergic to edge to the point it "ruins you the game" is just unhinged behavior.
But honestly lets just drop it here since you clearly have a mindset that you are not gonna change. So ill leave you in your bubble.

It ruins the game because it confirms all the godawful Dirge of Cerberus stuff will be canon going forward.

Maybe I'm imagining things but didn't OP write out a long list of various issues he had with the game?
You'd have a point if he said the game was great but Nero ruined the whole thing because he was too edgy. I agree we should drop it here but only because of how disingenuous you're being.

Edge is almost always extremely lame and poorly done.

        Completely wrong.

          Anonymous

          Nah, it's correct.

If "edgy" is done right it doesn't stand out since it feels like a natural part of the story. The kind of edge people actually notice and talk about insists on itself way too much, feels exaggerated and over the top, and as such clearly stands apart from the rest of the story. Nero in FF7R is the perfect example of this. He's completely unrelated to the actual story and you wouldn't even know who he is if you hadn't played some shitty side-game and he pops out of nowhere without any buildup and immediately becomes the biggest threat in the game. He kills his own men just to show off how edgy he is. You can't even defeat him, only temporarily hold him back by a character sacrificing themselves. Nothing he says has any relevance to what's actually going on, it's all just extremely juvenile one-liners attempting to sound evil and badass.

Edgy is what you get when you let a pretentious 13 year old write a badass, threathening character. It's all I'm the best and I'm the most evil, without any sense for the narrative nor any skill to actually sell it. It's cringe incarnate.

If you do edge right, it kinda stops being edgy. Take Kefka for example. One the one hand he's super edgy, arguably one of the most edgy villains in the FF franchise. But he's built up convincingly within the story as this scheming, completely amoral homosexual who'll do anything to get his way, so when he takes control during the pivotal moment in the game it feels earned (narratively, not morally). More importantly, he's such a goofy moron that he's never at risk of the writers taking him too seriously, even after he gets ultimate power he basically just gets bored and goes to his tower to jerk off for the rest of the game, instead of flying around and showing off how evil he is.

      >Why are zoomers so allergic to edge so suddenly?
From what I'm seeing, FF7 remake has chronic issues with style over substance. The original FF7 was edgy so I'd expect to see a lot of complaints about hollow edginess,

      >Nero wasnt "shadow the edgehog", hes a super soldier that went mad because they went overload on him with mako power, literally an extreme case of, lets say, sephiroth.
      >literally an extreme case of, lets say, sephiroth.
An extreme case of the single most important villain in the original story?
