What kind of middle-school zero-sum bullshit are you huffing anyway to think that having tons of guns and bombs and loud, goose-stepping soldiers means you're nation is good? I'm 32 years old, I don't want bombs. I want a good house, a clean city and an income that allows me to do the things I want to do. If that means I need to live in a country that has the 16th largest military in the world as opposed to the 1st, then so be it.

Japan's customs will filter most foreigners who aren't rich or fit migrant workers anyway.
        1. No matter what kind of experience you had in your country of origin, you'll have to start at the bottom of the ladder if you go there for work, and the initial pay is peanuts.
        2. The japs are also a rather stiff bunch too and hates people that stands out too much, if you're a loud sperg that likes to dress in anime shirts, they're going to give you dirty looks.
        3. Their country doesn't accommodate fat people well either, so you better lose weight if you want to get the most out of their facilities
        4. Their justice system is rather fricky too, especially if you're a foreigner. If you get accused of a crime that you're innocent of it, you're going to have a rough time trying to prove it
        5. They tend to complain about the smell of foreigners A LOT. I don't know how but whites and blacks apparently tend to give off a unique odor to them that they can't stand

I'm so fricking sick of doom posting, especially because I've lived here a few years. 99% of foreigners are whiney b***hes and love negativity despite 99% of the moments you have in Japan being completely pleasant. You may encounter one or two things that really offend you in your entire time living here. Meanwhile back in burgertown you'll have rowdy nogs yelling at you all day and people fighting over roadrage constantly.

I swear, the west has some obsession with being negative whiney homosexuals on social media and this extends to whats popular on YouTube. >Food safety standards are nonexistent and people live shoulder-to-shoulder

        >Have to walk everywhere or deal with terrible drivers
        >Working there is its own separate hell I won't even go into and this is all despite me speaking fluent Korean
I could go on and on. It's a terrible place to live if you actually have children and want a stable life.

Now, if you're some 20 year old college kid with no family or responsibilities, have at it. It's party city. But otherwise I prefer my American suburbs.

Lived 3 years in Japan, spent a total of 2 months in Korea over three trips while I was living next door. They've always felt pretty different to me. Korea feels like a less prosperous Japan without the unifying "we're all in this together" 和 energy.

I've literally never been to Japan so I assumed it's a slightly cleaner version of Korea but I don't know.

          I'll help you out.
          1. Maybe this was common 20-30 years ago, but smoking is slowly on the way out and they try to put public smokers in gas chambers.
          2. Clean and beautiful air, though I lived in the country so I'm biased. Tokyo was still fine.
          3. Very high food standards though people do live shoulder-to-shoulder, even out in the sticks
          4. Spitting is unheard of. If a child ever spit there would be hell to pay from their parents/teachers.
          5. God forbid you have to walk somewhere! Many transportation options nevertheless
          6. Most jobs in Japan are pretty bad to some degree so you have to really want it. Hard work and long hours.
Bonus: I lived in China. The way you describe Korea reminds me of it and that doesn't surprise me.

I've lived in Asia for a decade, speak the language fluently. I'm still going to be given a fork when everybody else is given chopsticks unless I make a big song and dance about speaking the language in every restaurant I enter.

Hate to break it to you but if you're planning on returning to the US or the UK you've got a whole nother thing coming. Tokyo is the exception not the rule for cost, and compare it to any city anywhere close to it like New York and you'll come out ahead in Tokyo. And if you're compare this to bumfrick Ohio good luck landing a job that pays twice without having to live somewhere that eats it up. You can, but you can also find not shit jobs in Tokyo as well.

In my experience in USA, everything I'd the same besides the foreigner temper tantrum shit. I've always consistently had to be on post offices, dentists, doctors, etc backs because nobody can schedule shit anymore, or forget things and your appointment gets lost easily. Things can take either a few weeks up to a few months, and there's 50 thousand corpos all working as middle men so you can't just ask your local hospital for anything. Gotta go to a seperate building, then go somewhere else that specializes in it, then go to another place to qualify for medicine, then go somewhere else to actually get the medicine.

All that with all the fricking Black folk, and you get braindead morons who don't even know how to read off their shitty scripts or reply to emails at all. In the industry, shit is slowed down to a crawl because nobody takes their jobs seriously, so tons and tons of places are behind and they know they can't grt fired because of how understaffed everyone is.
Women are even more psychopathic here, and the use of email is nonexistent if you need to use anything seriously, nobody responds to emails and if you ever want to make progress, you have to fricking call like 50 fricking times.

I think the world in its entirety just sucks balls dude, dunno if its a jap only issue. Food sucks here too its all too salty or too sweet and its all fricking corn. At least in Japan there aren't many Black folk (for now, until the obsession with immigration makes things worse like it has everywhere else)

My gf is from a town like that. It's nice but also pretty scary that you can never just be anonymous. The first time I visited I borrowed the bike her brother used back in high school to go around a bit and the random old people there would recognize his bike from a distance, immediately realize which household it belongs to and ask me if I'd married the daughter.

Anyone with problems with japan is doing it wrong.
Japan is absurdly pretty, Japanese women are hot and cute and have the same fetish for tall guys every other woman has, and Japanese culture is one of the most interesting and fun to interact with on earth, but living in japan means a ton of sacrifices no one wants to make. Do what I do. Got a Japanese degree, got a job IN AMERICA working at Nintendo as a bilingual liaison with the Japanese branch, and go on frequent business and pleasure trips to japan while fluent in the language, and then return HOME to AMERICA where I have a big house and car and barely pay taxes and can own guns where I live with my HOT JAPANESE WIFE I brought back with me I really cannot stress this enough, did not LEAVE IN JAPAN. I get to pick and choose exactly what parts of my lifestyle are american or Japanese at will and have never been happier. If I could do anything to improve my situation it would be a portal in my closet to Kyoto so I don’t need to ride on a plane every two months but otherwise this seems like far and away the best way to enjoy japan.

Kenshi has been doing it for me. Walking through these massive alien landscapes as some aimless rando wondering how everything fell apart. Then looking further up to see the other moon and main celestial body further questioning if there is anything on them. And to top it all off there is a skybox that isn't polluted with light so you can see the galaxy and stars. You look out the window in a city and all you see is depression.

I can't tell if I'm partly deluded by how much I enjoyed it, the friends I made, and my personal experiences with it, but I want to live there now. I'm looking into moving and finding a job there or remotely that I can perform, within a couple of years. I know what you mean, there's a reverse culture shock no one told me about coming back to the states. The two times I went to Japan just for vacation, before living here, I landed at Newark NJ airport and the second trip back in D.C. Dulles airport and holy fricking shit.

It's always insane going from a quiet and polite culture to Americans being extremely loud and fricking rude 24/7. American culture is fricking dogshit. The xenophobic shit that people b***h about has not affected me once living here 5+ years and I am so glad to be done.

I think the most comfy place in Japan is Takayama and Shirakawa-go. I live in western Kanagawa right now so its like an hour from Tokyo, 2 hours from Fuji, and 3 hours from Nagoya so it kinda sucks I'm far away from shit but live here is so comfy. I wish I could visit gifu easily on the weekends 🙁

No. Anyone that's reasonable that has actually been to Japan for a period of time and comes back to the USA will immediately notice how loud and extremely rude Americans are in general. It's something that I was so used to in 30 years of living in burgerland that I never noticed it as out of the ordinary but was like whiplash coming back. My first two days back from JP I witnessed someone trying to fight a TSA agent, a guy blaring rap music in the airport waiting area, and a McDonalds worker throwing a bag at me without saying anything. Among other things.

so making lasting friendships is possiible ? you work for a local company ?

I'm trying to gtfo out of muttland and find japanese "leave alone and be left alone" life extremely appealing

Very difficult for actual Japanese friends and there's a huge language barrier. If you learn the language eventually you can find some people that don't "fit in" to the larger Japanese culture that can be your buddies for life but they're hard to find. Most people are friends with other foreigners.

Honestly you might find a spouse like a lot of people do that live here permanently and that should be your best friend. That's easier to do than back in the U.S. from my experience even.

I work for a DoD contractor. Info sec, making about 15M yen a year equivalent. Thinking of buying a house since you can finance them at insanely low interest rates and I feel fricking rich with this salary here.

Local Japanese spouse. A lot of the guys I'm friends with found their wives locally. Just be careful of the psychopath Jap women that just want foreigner looking babies and stuff. I will suggest you learn Japanese as much as possible, otherwise a local relationship is going to be much more difficult but many Japanese in the Tokyo area can speak good English so you have a good chance if you live there.

I went to kanagawa for a day trip. Went to enoshima. Was such a soulful and wonderful day. I ate one of those curry bun things with the little fish and had a bit of a freak out. A hawk swooped down and knocked it out of my hands. Walking back from Enoshima some street racers were getting chased from the docks on Enoshima by police cruisers. Loved it.

Bro I had that EXACT FEELING. I was literally listening the The Shard while walking around one day.

      Takayama is max comfy

Takayama was nice. I went during the festival in April. It was actually kind of me as far as festivals go but I learned more about it by visiting their museum. I think it's a merchant town that was famous for their fire brigades. The floats represent3d the merchant guilds. I ended up getting lost wandering the back alleys and had a great time. All the shrines were quiet and emptied out because everyone was on the festival road. Met a nice older in a jumpsuit who let me feed these massive koi he was tending.

Next time I go I'm going to rent a car. There were so many places I saw while riding the shinkansen I would have loved to drive to. The bus routes were convenient but I probably averaged 15 miles a day walking around up and downhill. Not used to such changes in elevation in Florida. I was definitely feeling it by day 25. I'd just use the car to go to cities off the main lines though. Walking around is how you get to see all the cool shit you'd normally miss driving.

I only stayed at one. It was a traditional family style house ran by an older couple. It's pictured on the left here. It was about $35 a night and came with complimentary breakfast. It was quaint and authentic, don't really know how else to describe it. The hosts were lovely and wanted to take a picture with me when I left, and sent me off with a handmade charm and origami.

Japan is just a copy of China.
The only difference is that Japan was colonized by the west two times, one in 1845, then in 1945. Thats why they "look like" us.
If you like Japan, you should like china too.

      Same tbh.

That and the adherence to a time table, which not always happens with trains in my country.
I guess what tipped it over for me was after taking a bus to some Fuji mountain observation deck and walking for like an hour in some towns to that Chureito Pagoda placeI needed to get back to the bus stop.
The only station was in a nearby town and I honestly didn't expect any trains anytime soon because the station was absolutely empty, but lo and behold, right on time, just as google said, one arrived.

I used public transport for 6 years to finish my bachelor degree
it was a mix of half-Japan half-Vietnam system, and both are excellent. I could sleep soundly on both routes and no one would bother me.
Except the Japan system had automated announcer, and the bus driver would announce over the speaker at every stop, which was a negative point for me (for some it might be a positive).

it was two separate routes, one route from the main city to a nearby province (Vietnam route) and once I reach the province, I take the Japanese route to travel around the inner city. They are two separate entities.
The Vietnam route was on time, every time. While the Japanese route would be around 3-4 minutes late (occasionally - didn't affect me much). Don't get blinded by "Thing-Japan", sure, enjoy it, but you praising Japan incessantly for something that even my poor country can do is just strange.

Going to Japan for the first time in November. Rate my trip and give me tips.

    >Land in Tokyo, stay first 2 night in Shinjuku
    >Travel to Takeyama, spend a night there, spend the day at the Hida folk museum
    >From there to Kyoto for 4 nights, with 1 night in a ryokan with its own private hot tub. Visiting temples and shrines (Enryakuji in particular), maybe check out the geisha festival that's on.
    >Then to Koyasan, spending 2 nights in one of the monasteries, gain enlightenment, visit the graveyard, just relax and enjoy the views
    >Followed by Osaka for 3 nights, eating like a pig, shopping, hanging out with the skaters near Amerikacho
    >Back to Tokyo for the last 3 nights, staying near Akihabara, shopping mostly.

I have a couple of things marked out and obviously won't get to all of them, but having anything I can pop in and see would be cool: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1LUBPlRpGqhjeRt-6gfVv9zBWx1rU-mI&usp=sharing

You probably already know this but the station mall in Osaka is pretty dope. Osaka is cool as frick. Cooler and more "real" than Tokyo. When I stayed there I took a day trip to Koyasan, I feel like one night max is enough to get your fill. I'd spend one less night in kyoto since you can knock out a lot of shrines in two days as they're pretty small and when i went there were an insane amoumt of tourists. Take a day trip to Nara. It's close by and the deer are pretty fun. Huge shrine too, look at this shit it's like a video game

Make sure to visit Uji inbetween Kyoto and Nara, on your way to Nara or whatever. It's amazing. Check the matcha strip.

Cool, was thinking of a day trip out of Kyoto. I just think Kyoto is beautiful to look at so that many days would be decent.

        >Osaka
why? I lived there for years, and will never for the life of me understand how it ends up on tourists itineraries

Mostly nightlife and skating. Osaka has a rad skateboarding scene and some parks I want to check out: https://youtu.be/Hbm6HVg-W7k

Hey! I went there! Crazy to see it photographed like this. Took a 2 month trip not too long ago, I was walking the nakasendo from magome chome and didn't realize the next train stop was like 12 hours haha.

Pretty sure this is the town with the retired rock star in it, he makes old clothing now which had like weird kabuki stuff on it and was dope as frick. Was also made the same way fire fighters had their clothes in the edo period, and was fire and water moronant.

Good times man, pic related is a photo from that walk of a shrine along the way. The way japanese forest just creep in on everything is incredible, nothing like my home country. There. That's the reason. You don't need to wonder why anymore. Westerners idolize Japan for the same reason they idolize Alpine villages or secluded Italian neighborhoods or other suspiciously picturesque, parochial locations. Because there aren't any Black folk, Muslims or israelites out to get you. The existential dread is not there.

I get plenty of vacation time but I literally don't have a back up. So vacations end up being stressful to me as I know once I get back I will have to pull a 60-80 hour work week.

          >back up
          >will have to work 60h week
wait, so do you get vacation days or not? I don't wanna turn it into euro flex shit flinging battle, but i'm curious at this point. The way I understand it is that you get vacation days, but then you have to work them back? Or do you get vacation days, but then, for example, you don't get separate sick days, and you're concerned than in case of getting sick, you won't have free days to spare?

Every american company is different, but most have Paid Time Off with mixed sick days.
So as an example, I build up PTO over the year for a total of 4 weeks (20 days) and I have 5 sick days. I carry over 5 days of PTO going into the year, but will lose the remaining 15 days and my sick days if I don't use them.
The problem I'm saying is I literally don't have a backup for my work. So if I take any vacation, upon my return is just a fricking mountain of shit I have to deal with. So normally what I do is just take every other Friday off throughout the year to take a break. Big vacations are kind of impossible for me.

what do you do for work? sounds like hell

IT security, but it's very generic for a mid sized company so I end up wearing a lot of hats.

Bro I work in info sec and work 2 hours a week getting paid 6 figures. You should jump off to risk assessment stuff for DoD. It's glacial but it pays well and has a stupid amount of time off

it's difficult but you just got to resist the urge to be efficient and just stick to one place the whole time.

I would probably kill myself to be tbh. If I had to work a 9-5 it would be over for me. I'm a nurse which is kind of a shitty job but I just take contract work for 16 weeks, work 3 days a week, then blow my pay overseas and live for cheaper for a month or two

        >mfw work as a Lyft Driver
        >mfw make 50k/yr
        >mfw work maybe 2 hours a day, more if I feel like it, less if I'm out of it
No Shekelberg breathing down my neck. No cubicles, no obligations. Most of my clientele are Black folk, but the thing about Black folk is that they're pretty subdued when they're in a Lyft since they know they can't cause shit. Most of them are pretty fun to talk to, anyway. God, the stories I could tell! Maybe I'll use this job to springboard into being a fisherman. I've always loved the sea.

I bet you have some stories. That's part of what makes my job tolerable, the people you get as patients are pretty wild sometimes but it definitely keeps it interesting. And I can just frick off whenever I want because no one wants to work this shit job, especially other men

My brother in law works with a similar company the amount of people who rob him (Almost always Black folk or sand Black folk or poojeets btw) is staggering then there's the drunk mudslimes who vomit in his car then run away instead of paying the fine.

    Yakuza
    Persona 4
    Muramasa

Nioh (it's mostly an action game first and foremost but it has some enviroments here and there and the OST is great)
Sekiro, although mostly for Fountainhead Palace. It's a somewhat drab game otherwise
