This is a perfect setup for these two and really it was fun having characters who didn't interact much before as a focus, nevermind Y'shtola being something of a background character. But no, gotta get the two attention prostitute kids more attention as well as a new draw for women and trannies.
Y'shtola is the dullest character in the game. You only like her because she's moderately attractive.
I liked her more back in ARR/HW when she was a curious magician sticking her neck out a little too far, and always displaying that intellectual curiosity. They tried to mature her too much with the Matoya stuff, and now she's just a haughty old Scholar. They even reference this in the MSQ showing that she used to have a girlish cute side with her water summon chant, but has now changed the incantation to be boring and methodical. She lost all her charm. Curiosity killed the Cat('s personality).
She didn't have a "girlish cute side" in ARR though. She is the same boring character now as she always has been.
I disagree, but I'll admit it's more pulling from my memory of events, rather than looking at specific dialogue to prove you wrong. I just think of things like her showing up in her mining outfit and her enthusiasm was the character trait that shined through the most there. Also I seem to remember her having some flirty dialogue, but I 100% acknowledge that could be me projecting what I wanted to read out of the dialogue.

Current fight design makes healers pointless. They're literally only there to press 1 button after a raidwide and occasionally rez when someone fricks up a mechanic that doesn't instantly wipe the group.

I asked this in another thread, but just to see if I get a similar answer, would XI be a fun time playing through WITH one or two friends? Like will we actually travel and experience the story together? Or is it like XIV where we just do MSQ separately and meet up for instanced content. I guess I'm asking if there like a quest sync or meaningful moment to moment overworld content that's not just running from dialogue box to dialogue box.
You can spend every step of the journey together. There's no point at which you have to disband and do some shit like a solo instance. You can level sync down to the lowest level party member and quests aren't level locked. You'll spend 90% of your time trekking through the overworld together because dungeons aren't instanced content.
Damn that sounds fun. I might try to actually get a couple friends to play with me in prep for the alliance raids so we have that context, and because it's the one game mainline FF game I haven't played through before.

I've played XI since high school and 1.0 since beta. Wtf happened between XI and XIVs animations? XI was always so much more detailed. I even remember 1.0s cutscenes being around the same level of detail as XIs but after ARR it's like the characters can only nod or do the most bare bones of movements. Was there ever an explanation for this?

For MSQ it should all be new animations made by hand. I expect them to use the shitty default emotes for side quest but holy frick. I thought MSQ was the selling point for this shitty game and it's mid at most.
I'm pretty sure all the 1.0 animations were motion captured which is why there's such a difference after ARR. Since 1.0 didn't live up to expectations, they dialed back on the graphical quality and cut whatever budget they had for motion capture to zero I assume.

How big of a difference is there between ATK and STR? Like, how does 2 STR compare to 3 ATK?
STR increases the potential max damage, and Attack increases how closely/often you'll hit said max damage or close to it.
I usually only play during Free Logins myself (they run for about 2 weeks or more). Historically they run Free Logins about twice or more a year. Pay once and you're golden.

Because of a Zilartan, Mildaurion, Prishe's emptiness (the curse Promathia gave) was crystalized, which was then weaponized against Promathia to weaken him enough for WoC & crew to fight them off.
There's a lot more details that I can't remember off the top of my head, but it's pretty cool.
There's also the added layer of stuff RoV & TVR did too like what they did to WoC.

This isn't quite right. The Five Races were born out of the Mothercrystals from Promathia's darkness. The Zilart were original lifeforms from Paradise, but they lost their divinity when the the Mothercrystal was sundered. Even though the Five Races had yet to be born, Promathia's darkness was still permeating through the world, and it began to gather in the once-perfect hearts of the Zilart and robbed them of their Whisper of the Soul. Zilart without the Whisper were called Kuluu and exiled. But as the phenomenon became more widespread they created the Chamber of Eventide to suck the darkness out of themselves. Eald'narche then made contact with the Al'taeiu Mothercrystal and received a vision of the original world. And all Zilart with the Whisper received that vision as a broadcast from his soul. After seeing that world, they began their work to rejoin the Mothercrystals. Arks were constructed around each of the Mothercrystals with lines all leading together to Tu'lia. Five Zilart warriors joined themselves to each of the crystals, and in doing so they became the perfect archetypes of what would later be the Five Races, and the particular pieces of Promathia's darkness that shapes those races. Those are the Crystal Warriors, the Ark Angels. The rejoining process was then stopped by the Kuluu. Selh'teus and Bahamut attacked Al'taeiu while another group sabotaged the Ark around the Vazhl crystal and triggered the Meltdown which wiped the Zilart off the map.

No, pay attention to what Balamor is saying. Promathia's darkness is called Emptiness, it's the idea of death, longing, the idea that you are imperfect which causes you to reach for the light. He says flat out that the Void is not the Emptiness. The Void is non-existence. The joining of Promathia and Altana is what banished some part of the Void to create Vana'diel. When two divinities join either through love or conflict, their astral winds clash and blow away the Cloud.
Forgot to add that this almost happened a second time when Odin and Alexander fought around 900 years before and the resulting astral storm created a supernova which caused daylight in Vana'diel for an entire year.
The Void despite being non-existance is still a tangible thing in FF lore. And it's (the tangible Void's) creation was because of Promathia's darkness. We've seen how powerful Altana & Promathia are considering they made WoC a demi-god, they joined the darkness & light which is a counterbalance to The Void. We've seen what happens with too much Darkness in FF games before not just in XIV but III as well, it creates another part of The Void.
Promathia has nothing to do with the Void except that he and Altana banished part of it to create Vana'diel. Balamor says it to you in the previous image, pretty flat out. Emptiness (Promathia's darkness) is not Void.

Neither World of Darkness is part of the Void, you're confused. FFIII World of Darkness is a parallel dimension to its World of Light, they both normally exist in harmony. The Cloud of Darkness simply invades one or the other when they tilt out of harmony as a means of further disrupting the harmony so that the entire thing will collapse back into Void. The Darkness itself is not Void, it's just that an imbalance will lead to collapse. She tried to do the same from the World of Light thousands of years beforehand too.

When it later turned out that these voidsent were all coming from the Thirteenth, that world was then called the Void because they were already calling the natives voidsent. Darkness =/= Void, Void is absence of anything. Darkness is a necessary part of life and balance in the FF cosmos.

It's not necessarily the same entity, in FFIII she's an active interloper trying to collapse things on purpose. In FFXI it's an unthinking, unfeeling force of nature that simply just consumes things. But it's the same metaphysical idea across all these FF dimensions.

They were salty over this and even attacked their fellow creators. Over a short while most of those creators stopped interacting with W2G. Ginger began to say the entire community sucks and is holding XIV back. Then in 2022 Ginger tried to do what MisshapenChair did and started his "villain arc" with hot takes and bad ideas. People countered them with constructive criticism, but Ginger continued with making videos on the community, calling them toxic haters.
After that his channel(s) tanked and he tried to save face by leaving XIV. Claiming he wants to focus on family (he has like six kids), his stand-up career (good one!) and New World content. Made a big stink about it and why NW is superior. Of course he never really left XIV. He stopped playing, but continued making shitty videos on XIV.

I think it looks okay but I could see it potentially being a bit of a flop largely due to how many melee dps there are starting to be in this game. The "stance switch" seems potentially interesting but I don't really see FFXIV combat doing anything unique with a stance that is more than just switching when you are supposed to on a timeline.

I haven't touched Endwalker since initial release, what's been the "secret bread crumb" hints for the next expansion and its story?
I know in Shadowbringers it was the Void/Darkness and we didn't learn about the Void World until after Endwalker was done so I'm curious if there's something like that for Endwalker now?

Teleporting to unattuned aetherytes was always possible, it was described in 1.0 and early ARR lore as a popular tactic for Garlean surprise attacks. They'd force all the conscripts to try and teleport to an unattuned aetheryte, and even if most of them got lost in the Lifestream and never made it out, the few that did make the trip would be enough to frick up the target from inside.

We already did it to fuel the travel to Ultima Thule and Louisoix used it to stop bahamut. It's a plot device to solve doomsday scenarios, but it isn't like we can just press a buttom and it happens.

8.0: Ilsabard
9.0: Meracydia+Dragonstar Remade. Dragons and robots live in peace again.
10: One zone for each remaining inhabited shard and a big sendoff for the XIV series as a whole in preparation for the next MMO.
I don't think we're ever getting the rest of Islabard other than individual zones.
We're only getting South America in this expansion it looks like. Might get North America at some point. And I bet they do a whole expansion dedicated to another single shard like ShB, rather than a big multiverse thing.
