I miss white people
These are the same thing.

people genuinely get confused and piss and fart when you tell them the suck was enjoyable
but the mmo memories i keep to this day are of running in vast expanses of low textured places in random korean mmos, no text marker or bing bing wahoo ui to tell you what's the next step in your laundry list
fpbp. turd worlders don't socialize in vidya at all
Look at me, I'm the white people now
11 was shit
WoW won and was miles better
wow dumbed down the entire genre to appeal to casuals, which is what lead to where we are now. Where every game wants the "wider audience" and nothing can be a niche genre anymore.
wow improved most things other than crafting/housing tbh. the genre died because the internet evolved and everyone knew everything if he wanted to.
And then it lost to 14 :/
Filtered.
That "filter" is why your game is in maintenance mode and WoW is still getting updates despite being dogshit.
People who compromise quality for longevity are barely human though, they're objectively inferior beings with bad brains. If burning bright and brief is the fate of a great game in a genre then so be it.
You can barely call WoW alive. It's a shambling husk filled to the brim with troonshit.
XIV became the best MMO by sacrificing almost all RPG elements.
>No class customization and rotations are braindead simple
>No creativity allowed when forming a team
>Raids are just AOE obstacle courses
Yeah.
I guess people just don't like "muh real mmo"
>Still has elitism and divide based on completion / gear.
Why dumb it down if the same douchebag issues emerge? Keep it hardcore. FFXI had it the best.
>Game is rough
>Are you a DPS without weapon skills? Frick outta here
>Are you a BLM without ancient magic? Frick outta here.
>Are you a WHM without Raise 2, RDM without Refresh/BRD without Ballad/COR without Evoker's Roll? Frick outta here.
Baseline filtration neuters the lazy and poor gay players. Keeps the scum at the bottom, before you get to the mid-line fancy gear
Baseline filtration also lets you group up with silly people who just want to try silly tactics to get shit done instead of "just do the meta bro".
I don't even give a shit about clearing, I want blue mage in current content, and conjurers being able to healtank.
Never forget that XIV had to ape XI for two separate launches.
I've been playing private server for a few weeks and ready to go on break again. Found a solid server with a small pop where people wanna do shit, but eventually the grind sets in. Still enjoy trying novel job/subjob combinations for solo and dual BCNMs.
FFXIV is 100% one of the MMOs that OP is talking about as being a "hub city queue simulator" but I appreciate the MS Paint comic
This is what confuses me about MMORPG's. I keep getting suckered into them, but unless I'm playing with the guy who sucked me, I'm not playing with anyone. I just solo mindless combat v braindead enemies with my magic cooldown buttons until bored. Then when I ask or look up when the frick people work together, its for like 2 dungeons at the level cap. The frick would I want to play a multiplayer game that's not multiplayer for 99% of the content for? They're all like this now. The only ones that weren't were wow like 15 years ago (which I didn't like because it had furries) and FFXI
Everquest but that's even older
>unless I'm playing with the guy who sucked me
Anon WoW literally pioneered the casual MMO experience, you could easily level from 1-60 in vanilla solo because the developers intentionally designed it that way. The game made the genre more accessible than any other contemporaneous MMO by removing shit like losing EXP on death and letting you play on your own with no real roadblocks even it was suboptimal. It was a huge part of WoW's success in drawing in people who don't normally play video games. One of the biggest problems at level cap in WoW was the game never teaching you how to actually play so you would regularly encounter morons who didn't know how to play their class despite being at level cap, because the game let you level on your own.
>by removing shit like losing EXP on death
Curious to see how many people would play an old-school style MMO nowadays outside of Albion and EVE and Runescapegays. Such MMOs no longer can rely on casuals being forced to play their specific MMOs because there were not many alternatives at the time like UO and Everquest.
wow hardcore is currently in a pure Renaissance, it also solves the issue of "world feels empty and I see no one" since the earlier levels are always full of people who died and restarted
you are able to respawn if you die at 60, yes?
There's no way in hell you could so level to 60 in Vanilla. Way too many quests required you to party to take down elites or run dungeons to finish quests. Vanilla WoW Is probably still the only active mmo that requires you to socialize and talk to people in order to progress with leveling content.
>I'm playing with the guy who sucked me
gay
The guy who sucked you? gay.
You shouldn't be in a position in life where you just casually say a dude sucked you off
i play ESO off and on, and i kind of feel this way about it due to the sheer amount of quests and content (much of it admittedly bad). maybe it's just the weird/clunky UI and map system, but i never know where the frick to find vendors and smithees and shit so when i need something in town, i just wander towards the nearest major city then wander the streets looking for what i need, before drifting back out of town again. it's oddly comfy
but i guess this could be said about any map that is new to you. exploring is always the most comfy part
clearly, most people do not
Planetside was the only good MMO ever made.
It is an oversized Battlefield map.
A real MMO is Foxhole.
>It is an oversized Battlefield map.
PlanetSide 1 is not an oversized battlefield map.
I'm more than glad MMOs have shed manual party forming, open-world ganking and griefing, interacting with annoying and unlikeable people, extreme content padding and downtime, and other shit that old MMOs had.
but you don't interact with anyone in MMOs anymore...you're expected to just go in and stuff is either easy enough to clear without ever talking or read a guide so you never have to talk
I understand that but I like playing at my own pace, dropping in and out of the game when I want.
Enter Dungeon Fighter Online
>Leveling is a breeze
>Hit 110 cap
>Fame stat introduced so goldbuyers can't buy clears
>You are 100% forced to party to get gear to actually get stronger in raid/legion dungeons
>If you frick up in the current endgame content (Bakal Raid, easy to sabotage via dropping a meteor on your party if you don't spend 2 hours reading all gimmicks for this fight alone), you get server blacklisted and will not be allowed in any parties due to being a frick up.
Have to communicate, have to be perfect, have to know mechanics...
>Spend 200-300m or get a handout +12 weapon or be auto kicked from parties.
Peak old-school MMO grit. Shame it's not for everyone and the community is kinda shit since the goldbuyer/elites hate everyone not them
That’s why SWTOR is king and when it’s dead there will be truly nothing left to play. The people in MMOs are the most insufferable gamers you’ll ever meet, they can’t even form coherent thoughts and always want you to frick their guildwife to create drama(I’m the guy that fricked her)
I wonder how many cartel coins I have from having an authenticator
I started playing that ffxi private server that popped up some time ago but life shit happened and I dropped it. Maybe I should give it a go again
>proceeds to post an EQ knock off where the world is empty boxes and bland mazes that only contains monsters to grind
XIV/XI subscription merger when?
In about a year.
Never ever.
I always liked PlayOnline, it reminded me of .hack's ALTIMIT OS with how it had all those teritary features and I know how outdated it is by our time but I still wish it wasn't pared down as heavily as it was.
Playable bnuuys when?
ivalice moogles will be the moment I install mods (because they will 100% get viera'd)
There's actually a mod already (called Ivalice Moogles in fact) that switches lalafell faces with loporrit ones and adds moogle accessories in place of other models, but I haven't tried it out myself yet. Looks very awkward at most angles.
Could have happened if FFXVI didn't flop, but now Yoshi-P has no voice in Square and is about to be fired/replaced.
The frick is this headcanon?
It's true. Actually, Yoshi-P has already been fired, but SE wants to save face. So, he's being kept around as a figurehead.
Motr when are they releasing an offline FFXI?
All is there already.
In FF XVII which will be a soft reboot of XI with modern features
Bring it back Yoshi, I yearn for the 1.0 days again.
Then play a MP 4x game.
The biggest problem is the fact that coop games tend to give better gameplay loop than instance-based minigames MMOs tend to offer
Guild Wars 2 is the only MMO that still actually feels like a world.
>Dozens of players on every map, people calling out for events and help and teaming up to do content, massive open world bosses across a shit ton of maps
The instanced content is meh because they chose to focus on the open world, but its the only world that feels like more than an afterthought.
shame about literally every other aspect of the game, though.
I'd probably still be playing if I didn't take a long break then come back to my weaver being completely fricked due to patches. Probably for the better though after they made the base game free and then made that expansion cost full price
Ganker hates it because it has a lesbian couple
honestly what makes me stop playing GW2 is the combat, I'm tired of traditional tab target combat which is why I get sick of FFXIV after doing what I wanna do, but GW2 is still 'half-way there' from being true action combat. I'd like something like GW2's world+content and true action combat, PSO2 is kinda like that except, well, you know if you know
Obviously that is the reason Ganker hates and not the fact that they showed a development manifesto and did nothing they claimed.
that's just what actual gw2 players hate it for, Ganker doesn't play anything and shitposts on gw2 based on what they know of it, it has a lesbian couple. you know this to be true
It's a good open world multiplayer game, but for me it lacks the progression to make it really feel like a true MMO. Content's also kind of inconsistent in quality. Heart of Thorns has some of the most sovlful open world maps in existence.
Post actually good Pulse remixes
>inb4 'this isn't a xiv thread'
it is
cope
And with this, we have posted the only two good Pulse remixes.
could this be added to the ranking?
Suzaku is cute! CUTE!
(also I totally forgot about that song, it's a good one)
suzaku best girl, perfect for marriage
and frick azeyma and kill tsukuyomi
Consensual sex with the goal of procreation with all fire-based women and gods.
?si=0PN3NZJmNt4iw2or
?si=RtHdk6JfnYVBEfha
Sophia remix is just good. The Shiva theme is awful on its own, but it's actually pretty good in EO, especially the Allagan floorsets. Twinning theme is so fricking bad I don't even want to search for it
monsters and memories, OP. we'll be able to go home.
Man I wish there was a good private server. Catseye seemed fine enough for a day but then there's like ten people playing.
Small pop is fine if you can get everyone on similar schedules. I just treat it like a D&D game for a couple hours and people can farm/grind/camp with Trusts whenever they want.
The month where I no life this was amazing
Yeah I literally played this like an addiction for 2-3 months before I burned out
Had a lot of fun though other than the end game wage slave tier stuff
i play haven and hearth so fricking much.
almost never see any other players. just make my casual-ass little settlement and watch the cities bloom around me.
It's a great feeling
big hook for WoW was the character movement. running around inside the world felt quick and reactive, it just felt good to play
You will have to kill discord for that.
We will never get propet MMO gameplay back unless the MMO in question somehow fricking uninstalls voip software from your computer at launch and blocks installation of it.
Get rid of outside comms and i fricking bet you it will be like 2000s all over again, just with way more degenerates in chat.
we had comms back then to you drooling moron, maybe wait until you're at least 18 before posting again.
too*, frick you. verification not required.
the actual problem is wiki's and dataminers, if you were wondering.
NTA but we had wikis back then too, thottbot and alakazam and wowhead
wikis then were mostly just other players posting their experiences, wikis now are filled 2 months before the content by turbo autists who datamined every inch of it.
No, we had that then too. You really do need to be over 18 to post here.
no, 'we' really didnt. i think you need to go back.
c**t, I was playing Asheron's Call before you were a thought in your mother's mind.
sure you were, anon.
I was farming pyreal motes before you even existed. Please continue to talk about shit you know nothing about.
Frick pyreal weapon grinds. You people with your Relic weapons have nothing to complain about.
Sure thing bud 🙂
Doubt
Yes, we really did, you broccoli-haired moron. For frick’s sake, we had that level of autism with MUDs and hOmE pAgEs with shitty ass backgrounds that didn’t tile correctly.
Yes and no. Speaking as someone that has years of playtime in FFXI, from day one international release, the datamining, "meta"-following (I'll put both in the same bag) crowd grew as time passed, but you could mostly ignore it for a good decade, they were in their own niche, and you could see nothing but ripples of it as you played the game with your LS.
Completely random question, but while I'm at it, was there any payoff to FFXVI's world map being FFXI's, or was it just a hollow nod?
Compare fricking teamspeak and skype to fricking discord you cretin.
We used Xfire.
>installs xfire
>Everyone getting banned for troony sausage in the chat and/or hentai coomers
MMOs would die.
new world tried doing that but the community b***hed about so they changed, it's getting more and more like an instanced "mmorpg" each day
blame the "gamers"
I miss 2D and 2.5D MMOs.
>design 6 beautiful female characters
>kill them off a few patches later
what were they thinking?
They wanted to keep them around too long so everyone would complain about spending too much time with them, but they were getting bored of that.
Clean slate. Getting rid of old baggage.
>keep the fujobait one around
yeah frick off
>Design Venat, the most beautiful and most perfect woman to ever grace a FF game
>Kill her off in the most moronic way possible
I will never forgive square!
Writers planned the outcome a year ahead of patch.
Concept artists and 3D modelers made their dream waifus without getting told what's going to happen.
Not to mention some of these designs came from 1.X, so they certainly didn't know any of this storyline would happen.
Attempting to salvage the milquetoast of an expansion by using cheap methods to evoke emotion.
No kings. No Gods.
For me it's Nophica.
Mithra fun hole can I have it
ffxi was too good for this world and i'll never experience that joy again in my life.
The nostalgia always hits *hard*, when it does.
But you can't go home again.
level 25 noob WAR here
wearing mostly level 21 gear and can’t afford to upgrade
what should I do? Keep partying in the dunes til 30? Anything I could/should grind to make leveling smoother?
playing on Horizon. Current plan is leveling a bit and then going RNG
Yeah you're good you could move to rolanberry or something soon
appreciate the answers
anything I should keep in mind when moving to Rolanberry?
Get your chocobo riding license in jueno
Save up character points for 30 (you can trade through shout chat with ppl in other cities, you buy rank 1 in Bastok for one of theirs etc.)
Get conquest outpost warps
Dem crystal warps
thank you, sis
>1200+ people online
Real shit? How active is this server
decent amount of people in lower level areas
no clue about 30+ areas and endgame. Seems fairly active going by the shouts tho
At that level, only buttholes will complain about that gear descrepency, especially for gear that's not central for your role in the party, and all the more true if you're playing the modern incarnation of the game, which is a lot more forgiving.
Thats what happens when all the development focus goes to endgame PvE and everything else in the game is centered around it.
Not necessarily, I mean that's part of the issue, but lateral progression grind, instead of vertical, can do wonders to keep things going relatively well, provided your world has been designed as a world first, not some empty space to be traversed and forgotten.
Conversely, PvP-centred with a vertical grind built around cyclical obsolesence won't do better.
Anyone gonna play the New Moon private server on the 20th? It won't disappoint you.
I didn't know that was a thing
Yeah turns out even a lot of hardcore SMT fans didn't even know Imagine was a thing despite the fact that it lasted for 8 years.
The server download is in their discord.
discord.gg/R6nztsegVn
It's also in beta form right now so you can test it to see if you like it and once it fully launces you'll get exclusive shit for having played the beta.
Are you the anon from /smtg/ who said he was gonna make a /vm/ thread when it launches? I want to play it but I can't find the server download. I looked around on google and can't find anything about it.
I never played this, got any more info?
Do you like SMT? Do you like MMOs? If so you might like Imagine. You also asked at the right time because the devs literally just dropped a promotional video for it.
that's actually a kino video, I'm interested
So what's meta so I dont get excluded from content?
Frick off
I'm just trying to be an asset. If I'm left to my own choices, I'll pick wrong
Play however you like. I remember magic being pretty strong in Re:Imagine but New Moon is reworking a lot of shit so I don't know. Thing is towards the endgame content pretty much all player groups are gonna need a variety of different classes to counter demons that repel those classes. Like in SMT how you'll have demons that repel or absorb physical or magic damage. Same shit in Imagine. Some classes take a while to invest into while others not so much. When I played with my friends on Re:Imagine I picked melee and one of my friends picked magic. I was stronger early game but late game the magic friend was a beast. But all this could be totally different in New Moon.
Is that it? Just melee and magic?
No. There's melee, ranged physical (which are guns), and magic. However you can customize each of these classes differently. You can have a melee and magic hybrid. You can have a ranged physical and magic hybrid. There are different gear sets that give you different skills and you have to experiment around to decide which is best for you. There's also building your own demons which can get pretty autistic.
Guns too.
>Remember: guns are awful.
It disappointed me when it originally launched, I expect no different.
It's a private server with a ton of rework and completely erased the p2w gacha shit the official servers had.
>Played the OG launch
>OY VEY PAY MONEY FOR THESE DOPE ASS WEAPONS GOY
>Quit out of annoyance, and more out of confusion.
Fug. Never even got past the first area
Yeah, none of that p2w shit or any monetization is gonna be in New Moon. Turns out having all that shit scrapped from the game actually makes the game good.
I'm gonna play it. I like the fact that you can't make your character have black skin. Also the devs are pretty chill in the discord with letting people get away with edgy humor. Unlike FFXI Horizons where they literally put a blacked troony flag on their website.
Uh oh, mentally ill /vg/ Troon detected.
>you're a troony if you don't like troony shit
What kind of backwards ass logic is that
Still seething about some moronic flag in a discord a year later
I just don't see what the flag has to do with FFXI
You should make a waiting room thread for it on /vm/. We actually had a thread for New Order on /vm/ a few months ago but it just died down. New Order was just too full of russians and the fact that it was hosted in russia caused ping issues for NA players. Also it had it's fair share of glitches as expected of a russian private server. I think a lot of people are gonna migrate to New Moon because even the beta is better than New Order.
I guess it won't hurt to do that now then when the full launch comes I'll just remind anons on /smtg/.
Just made the thread on /vm/
good luck anon, I hope your thread doesn't die like our PSO threads did
FFXI might be next
>PSO threads on /vm/
Frick I totally forgot about those. What the frick happened?
played a bit of RE:IMAGINE when that was still up, thought it was cool
will be checking this out, thanks
Did some reading up on the game and goddamn does it look complex
14 is so fricking afraid of player agency that any time something players come up with something unintentionally cool (SMN tanking Levi) it needs to immediately be patched out as an exploit, instead of the designers sitting down for 30 seconds and thinking "maybe boss fights where the boss doesn't move are kinda boring".
Content with actual effort put into it has slowed down to a trickle. Side dungeons are gone as a concept. Sidequests are pretty much done and gone.
Frick it.
DQX has an offline version, gimme a FF11(and 14) offline, so I don't have to deal with autists and trannies respectively.
>FF14 fricking sucks
>I still want to play it
>point out facts about the game
>therefore you think it sucks
Black person, no. I have the capability of enjoying a flawed product that doesn't 100% live up to all of my expectations. But there's definitely a correlation between the gameplay changes to 14 and the community changes. And at this point, I'd rather the community be gone and the game remain than vice versa.
How are you having trouble ignoring the community in a game that tries so hard to let you play it without interacting with them?
I have to see them when I go to a main quest hub.
>but that's not interaction
frick you, seeing them is bad enough. They are a violent assault on all senses.
Modern MMORPGs arent MMORPGs.
great
well, they exist, while your "true mmos" are dead
Modern video games aren't video games.
I'd like to see a fusion of the job/subjob system with advanced jobs. IMO DDs suffered a bit for "things to do" between job abilities and magic. Maybe make it where something like Dark Knight is just implied by WAR/BLM (or vice versa) with all the flavoring, abilities, etc. of the current class, but players could emphasize the magic vs. physical side more (MP + INT vs. STR + DEX, elemental skill vs. dark/scythe/GS skill, etc.) Then make jobs like Warrior -> Dragoon/Samurai, Thief -> Ranger/Ninja, etc. progression paths for certain jobs at 30 where you could switch between at any point like the current system. Probably fraught with balance issues and would leave some classes out in the cold if there wasn't an obvious advanced job or subjob compatibility, but I think it would ease the DD feeling of having a couple macros to push before 40 outside of WS.
Promyvion was one of the single coolest things to ever exist in a video game.
I would kill for a new single-player game set in vana'diel.
Roughly the same job and battle system, same characters, just maybe set 1000 years after.
Try Xenoblade
>MMOs that felt like worlds
That started and ended with Ultima Online.
>MMO has a world setting I like
>Dies
I want to shrivel up
The YouTuber that liked vanilla ffxi now does content only for ffxi catseye. I thought that private server was modern ffxi with trust? Whats up with it?
no idea, as far as I know horizon and catseye are the two options these days
But catseye isnt just retail minus rhapsodies?
ToAU isn't feature complete on any server as far as I know let alone WoTG
for as mediocre as it was I miss firefall since huxley was a pile of shit that never delivered
The MMO genre deserves to die anyway because they didn't learn anything from Guild Wars.
People WILL grind for cosmetic skins. This means you can put competitive content like FFXI's Notorious Monsters or RO's MVPs in the game.
Notorious Monsters were a good idea but bad in execution.
I was so interested in blue protocol but now that Amazon is publishing it it's going to be garbage.
instance dungeons killed mmos. as soon as people could have a safe place to be homosexuals and play drill instructor, the genre fricking died. bring back open dungeons with pvp
Instances are the only way to have an actually functioning game
Dungeons should be massive procedurally generated dungeons and nobody has any idea where the boss is. Whenever someone kills the boss, the dungeon resets and people have to find it again.
that could be a neat idea, especially if you make completely random where it spawns. I suspect people would make some dungeon tracker or data mine the algorithm, which to some anons point ruins the mystery
Datamining procedural generation doesn't do anything. You may be able to infer minor things about the layout like "room X cannot spawn adjacent to this corridor" but it won't help you find things.
After doing the MSQ I decided to try the MMO aspect of FFXIV and do some crafting and resource collecting to see if I could get an income selling wares, it's actually pretty comfy, especially when I go back to Thanalan and hearing this again after so long, it's almost nostalgic
That made me question why the fields are so empty of players, and why they just choose to parade and roleplay like homosexuals on Limsa Lominsa square
I levelled up my gatherer jobs to around 80 recently and did some crafting jobs. It's pretty comfy but the MB prices all tanked when they added cross world travel and made it to where you're able to buy from different server MB. Now like 90% of everything is dirt cheap to the point that it's more profitable just doing your daily roulettes and running treasure maps.
Absolute cancer. I haven't been peeved in quite some time playing a videogame but getting the Yagudo Crest? Yeah. I got a little mad.
>get to the ??? after the painful climb
>all the fricking true sight NMs are up
>unlike the other stronghold truesights these homosexuals actually sit on top of it
I quit MMOs when Tera closed
I don't think I'll ever come back...
I hate FFXIV but it's literally the game you want.
they are literally nothing alike
You can still play Tera on consoles
PSO is the only "MMO" I'll consider playing nowadays.
been playing on eden a few years now. it's legit the only MMO I have every played aside from guild wars 1 that is good and guild wars is hardly even an MMO.
The bean counters got too good at figuring out what the masses want, now everything that isn't optimally profitable is stillborn. At this point you would need to change the more casual preferences of hog consumers, or change the way these profit perverts do business.
