I haven't played Mega Man Zero in a long time
but like any other game, just throw yourself at

Zero 1 is actually rude enough that if you game over on a mission you permanently lose access to that level and are forced to skip it

I think people get fricked over by the ranking system of MMZ1 because they think it's just like any other Megaman game, where if you lose all your lives, you can just try again. Not in MMZ1. If you lose all your lives against a boss, the boss escapes and you don't get his weapon. If the enemies come to attack your base and you lose all your lives, your base is destroyed. You can never get into an unwinnable state (there's a backdoor to the final stage even if you lose every battle), but the game becomes harder and harder until you just can't fathom the will to play it anymore.

Played Zero 1 via recent collection. You can jump and run past everything, its a pretty basic side scroller

    Zero 1 is bullshit
    Zero 2 is challenging
    Zero 3 is too easy
    Zero 4 is alright
The boss EX skills on A/S rank in Z3 make them more open to attacks than any of their other attacks

    1. Fully level up your weapons as soon as possibly. Do this when you're not in a mission.
    2. If you don't care about rank, use Cyber Elves.
    3. Get the elemental chips as soon as possible and take advantage of them for the bosses weak to them.

If you feel like the games are too hard then just use cyber elves. They'll kill your score but the whole point of them is to make things easier.

  11. 5 months ago

Just use the cyber elves, they exist for players like you. Engage with the game and pay attention and eventually you'll be scoring A ranks on first runs. That said, if you've already played 3 and 4, 1 really shouldn't be an issue.
The screen crunch is the biggest issue holding the game back and 1 is mechanically a little rough around the edges besides, but it's still good.

Even though mmz is batshit hard i really liking it so far, it has style and fun gameplay
I also tried other gba game since i only play only pokemon, gba games are really something else they don't make stuff like these anymore
Picrel is zelda minish cap and i find it way better and fun than botw
Capcom should bring these game back instead of making so making the realistic person: the game movie

Just restart. Yes, the ranking system is overwhelming at first and will frick you up severely if you stay on a doomed file.
Just restart, try to go through stages without being hit. It's possible. My first playthrough was so bad that even the resistance base got totaled and they had to teleport me to the final stage through some derelict tunnels. I restarted. Went through all stages without taking a single hit (only save when you get an S Rank).

What started as a disaster suddenly became one of the most thrilling experiences of my teenage years. The sequels forgo this ranking system almost completely.

      >only save when you get an S Rank
Unless you're specifically going for S ranks, A ranks are fine too since that's all you need for the EX moves in 2 and 3. Also something a lot of people tend to miss is that your rank isn't per stage, it's actually decided by averaging all your stage scores. Once you've built up enough A/S ranks then it's pretty hard to drop from there. I don't think they start showing you your average score until Zero 3.

        Anonymous

I'm pretty sure in MMZ1 I had S Ranks on every stage, but got an A Rank on the final stage because the final boss hit me once. And believe me, it took me 5 tries to S Rank that one because of that fricking boss. Always a single hit. A playthough of the stage took 20 minutes.

did you consider going faster so you didn't have a shit time score?

S rank's range is 96-100 so you might have been at the very edge and maybe got a low A since the range is 86-95. They also make the scoring system more lenient in every game, for example Z1 takes a point away for taking 4 units of damage on your first hit and then an additional point for every 3 units damage after. Z3 takes a point away for taking 7 units of damage on the first hit and then one point for every 6 units of damage after.

Also yeah, like the other guy said, the actual killer was most likely your time score instead of damage. 20 minutes is bad and definitely too long.

Zero 1 and 2 stages are short so memorising the stages is relatively easy.
Most Inti games are excercises in perfection, repeating a stage until you know it through and through to get that S rank.

1 is one of the easiest Megaman Zero games lol

look at how speedrunners deal with bosses, its easy as frick

2 is harder, 3 is even more bonkers and 4 is insane. The omega fight in 3 is rough, git gud or die trying.

      Anonymous

Bosses aren't why 1 is bullshit
Unless you know where every enemy is beforehand you're always gonna have to deal with enemies starting to attack you from off screen
In Z2 this problem is slightly rectified, in Z3 they don't bother attacking for a full second after they're on screen in which you've already dashed to them and killed them with overpowered EX skills

You have that mostly backwards. 2 is arguably harder but it's also fairer. 3 and 4 are designed like the devs have actually playtested this shit. 1 isn't unbeatable by any means but it feels very amateur in comparison, a lot of its difficulty stems more from poor design choices than actually being hard.

Zero's plenty beatable if all you want to do is see the credits thanks to the elf mechanics, but it's boring as sin if you don't try for at least A ranks and kind of autistic if you do. It's like the games focus in on the worst difficulty balance you possibly can.

The problem with MMZ is that it isn't satisfying to just scrape by on a level. Classic doesn't give a shit if you won with a single sliver of health remaining. MMZ does as it wants you to play like you're aiming for smokin' sick style ranks. If you barely scrape by then tough luck, here's a D rank, try harder next time. You either love that shit or you hate it, not much inbetween.

        Anonymous

It's not necessarily just the ranks. You actively lose out on shit if you can't A or S rank every stage. Like you said, Classic Megaman doesn't care if you beat the stage with 1 or 100 health. You still get a weapon which means you still become more powerful and get new toys to play with. In Zero you lose out on shit if you don't play a certain way. You got a D rank? Well no new skill that might be useful to you. Also no new armor that may have helped you if you knew grinding a bunch of energy drops would've doubled your health pool. MMZ is a lot of fun but it wants you to earn the fun and by the time you git gud enough to get all of the toys available, you no longer need them.

MMZ is best played with a save state at the beginning of every level reloaded upon death. There's no shame in it, the games want you to play for ranks but they make it very annoying for you to do that.

  25. 5 months ago

You pretty much just have to go fast. And save often.

  26. 5 months ago

I'd say that the biggest point is that we had four MMX games before this came out, so people were pretty good at the game controls already. And if you'd been using Zero in MMX4, you were already familiar with how the character would control. It was still difficult, and you still had parts with would block you until you got better.
People were also playing just to finish the game at first, and only worrying about rankings once they were better at it.

    >should i skip 1 because i feel 1 is wayy harder and grindy than 3-4
Sure, go ahead. It's your game. Feel free to play whichever parts you want and skip what you don't like. The story will be a disjoined, but you can easily play the games and ignore the story. And there were enough story bits which didn't feel like they connected together anyway.

Also, you can evolve/use fairies to increase your health bar and get subtanks. It fricks your rank, but you shouldn't care about rank the first time just trying to complete the game.
