As someone who really liked wkc, no - please don't waste your time
1 ends off with a cliffhanger, 2 ends off with a cliffhanger
Since online service is taken down (the best part of the game, doing missions online with other friends) you can't get really good gear anymore so you're basically resorted to using everyone using bows because it's just that overpowered without any gear
On the topic of online service, as I mentioned, that's what you really played the game for - to run and do those quests but now that there is no offline service you can still ''do'' the quest but can only ever actually do maybe a hand full of them realistically. There's not enough time to do them solo.
The actual conclusion to the game also came from the online service to tie everything up but it only released in japan, so that's a bummer.
Let's see.... If you still did play you should get ''2'' instead of 1. ''2'' contains 1 in it already except with 2's gameplay.
damn, well that sucks, gameplay looked pretty cool but the online thing is unfortunate. mind recommending me other rpgs similar to this? platform doesn't matter
NTA but looking at gameplay reminds me of a slower-paced Xenoblade Chronicles X (which also coincidentally ends on a cliffhanger lmao). Fortunately the game is still fun to play solo and there's tons of non-main story content to sift through.
honestly I can't think of any with similar gameplay, the closest would probably be xenoblade chronicles 1 - but that's a whole 'nother beast as well in theme
I liked them, but they have problems. I hate that your character is random Nobody that doesn't get a knight transformation until the second game, and I think they lock content behind the online mode. Sardine (Kara) has a nice ass.
>I think they were trying the Phantasy Star Universe where you are the mute best friend of the protagonist.
PSU's offline story mode you didn't even make an OC, you just played as Ethan.
Get 2 if you want to play it, but no.
They nuked the online years ago, almost a decade now.
The story is actually pretty novel, you're not the chosen one, and in fact you don't even really get acknowledged through most of the story, you're just a side character to the real MC, online was the only place you truly got to shine.
But, it ends on a massive cliffhanger, and it will never be resolved, the dev team dissolved, the IP was locked away, it's dead.
The gameplay is also... Not that good.
>the dev team dissolved
No it didn't the game and IP belong to Level-5, Japan studio like always isn't the developer but delivered the online backend(just like they did for From) they had no other input into the game.
I platinumed the first game, and played the shit out of the second.
The solo game is junk, the story is unfinished, and like the anon above me said, ends on a cliffhanger that'll never be resolved.
The online was tons of fun, but's it's been shutdown.
If you want to play it get the second game it's the first one remade on a better engine combined with a sequel. Also the true story(takes place after the main plot) can't be accessed anymore so your character will always be a npc that follows the real heroes.
heard its pretty mid, but i would like to give it a try if it was on pc. sucks that so many ps3 era games are stuck there. emulation is probably the way to go here
I tried replaying it recently because I played a ton of the online when it came out and it really is shit. The gameplay is ass and the story is generic.
Though like another anon said it's pretty funny how your created character just does absolutely nothing. It feels like they had no idea how to fit you in with their generic shounen MC so you're just tacked-on kek.
Transforming into the knight is still cool though, like a giant fantasy mecha or ultraman.
The cool part was the post-game that finally allowed the player to build his own custom knight. Alos it was amazing how much content was hidden in the online mode. Probably more than in the base game.
I weirdly like that place but yeah it's pretty fricking stupid
You had to go to an auction house and get a fire gem thingy to get an audience with the guy in charge
I managed to 100% both 1 and 2, the games are complete and utter garbage both online and offline but online is still kino, its a dumpster fire, but its the kind that homeless people huddle around and enjoy a drink together with, will never forget the Big Red grind with the homies.
If I recall correctly it was neat the final boss of 2 was the main character and you need to deal with him with the rest of the party, I'd like to see that more in other games.
I think almost. but the problem is that in order to be able to clear the hard online quests, its a lot of grinding and transmigrating like Disgaea and upgrading gear
The main character is a massive moron to the point of actually crippling you during what's already one of the hardest bosses in the single player game.
Also a major plot point happens at the very end because your entire party becomes cripplingly moronic and do something that they were told several times across both games to never ever do which makes everything worse and almost gets everyone killed.

but Phantasy Star Universe was a little more enjoyable.
and just like Phantasy Star, the story of White Knight Chronicles also concludes in online only

Cisna is still cute though
Make sure to buy the second game and not the first, they included the entire first game on the second game's disc for some reason.

If you want to play the only game in which your character is a honest to god NPC then sure.
It was pretty cool of them to include 1 when you bought 2. I think it was a nice idea on paper, but flawed execution which is normal for Level 5.
i thought it looked cool b4 it came out but was a pporgay and skipped by the time it did
Kino openings
I only tried the PSP game but i love the battle system I wish more games had something like that
The PSP game is a prequel to the first game taking place 1000 years before it.
heard its pretty mid, but i would like to give it a try if it was on pc. sucks that so many ps3 era games are stuck there. emulation is probably the way to go here
lol
lmao even
In all my years of Ganker this is the most active i've seen a white knight chronicles thread on here
I remember it being pretty hyped up on Ganker before release.
I do not
The online stuff was great
I tried replaying it recently because I played a ton of the online when it came out and it really is shit. The gameplay is ass and the story is generic.

no. terrible game.
I remember playing the first one I think, got to a village that was on a turtle or something. and literally could not figure out what to do
I weirdly like that place but yeah it's pretty fricking stupid

I really really loved these games. I wish they would get ported to PC. They are worth playing, these games shouldn't be forgotten.
I managed to 100% both 1 and 2, the games are complete and utter garbage both online and offline but online is still kino, its a dumpster fire, but its the kind that homeless people huddle around and enjoy a drink together with, will never forget the Big Red grind with the homies.
On a scale of 1 to 10 how mad were you the wester release never got all the japanese content?
I keep trying to play it on RPCSX3 but it crashes.
If I recall correctly it was neat the final boss of 2 was the main character and you need to deal with him with the rest of the party, I'd like to see that more in other games.
Can you solo the online content? That's something I've always wondered. I love offline MMOs.
I think almost. but the problem is that in order to be able to clear the hard online quests, its a lot of grinding and transmigrating like Disgaea and upgrading gear
Yeah I love that shit. Guess I'll give it a try.
There's a page of this LP that goes into what exactly the now defunct multiplayer stuff entails. Worth a read if you really want to try it yourself.

It's a shittier FFXII with giant robots that they somehow made really fricking boring.
online was goated
