I originally got it for the arcade cores (I hate mame so much), but honestly I'm having a blast with the computer cores. I love dialing into BBS' from the Commodore 64 core or playing games from the MSX core (Metal Gear is such a blast). I printed a wedge case and it's fun to use it like this.
UFOs Are A Psyop Shirt $21.68 |
this is like the 3rd time you've made some variant of this thread in the past week
This is literally the first time I've posted about mister this week. I literally printed the case today.
>This is literally the first time I've posted about mister this week.
>literally the first time this week.
>this week.
ok....
When OP has gone 3 days without posting about mister
it really is THAT good tho
I'm not the only person on this board with a MiSTer, schizo.
>$600
It only costs $300 for the full sandwich, moron. If you go barebones you can get the full experience for closer to $200.
The website I went to says $615.
>The scam site that I went to says it's $615
The board is only available through Terasic and it costs $225. If you want all of the cores then you need to get the ram module - if you can't solder than you can get it for $22 on Aliexpress. If you want the full sandwhich with all of the extras (Not necessary) it'll cost you just under $300.
>cores
It has more votes than the latest Nvidia or AMD cpu's.
*more cores
cute rig anon
Thanks but it's not as cute as you
I like that there is a SAM Coupe core. Too bad that that computer had no games.
I'm not familiar with that one. What can it be used for? BASIC?
SAM Coupe was like a third party successor to ZX Spectrum, intended to compete in the lower price market against 16-bit computers. It had a 6MHz Z80 CPU, 128 color graphics and a really impressive PSG sound chip. It was advertised as being backwards compatible with the Speccy, but in reality it was only compatible with only the original 48K model, not the 128K updated version. Very few native games were released for SAM, most notably it got decent ports of Lemming and Prince of Persia, as well a deluxe remake of Manic Miner.
It has a cute mascot though
It is still noteworthy and deserves preservation, and many people have nostalgia for it even if they didn't have one. There's still a decent enthusiast scene for the SAM.
>many people have nostalgia for it even if they didn't have one
Explain that for me. I have nostalgia for stuff that I didn't have and even stuff that predates me. I don't understand it at all. Please explain.
Some things are just cool and interesting.
>MiSTer
Looks like you got scammed into paying $600.
Well, I don't like the Mister as a project but I think your case came out very nice, OP.
Thank anon
you fricking murdered him dude
Give me the quick redpill on the mister
>Benefits over emulating
>What kind of devices does it specialize in emulating
>Tardproof explanation for why I'm buying a bunch of individual parts instead of a whole product
>guide on how to assemble it all
>non-bias price estimate and what "going for a full sandwich" means vs going barebones
you will have a new shill if you shill successfully to me
>Benefits over emulating
It is emulation, it's just a different type. The emulation you're used to is software emulation. This uses FPGA which is hardware emulation. A special chip called an FPGA is programmed to copy the physical circuit of the original hardware which can allow it to play games more accurately than a software emulator can.
>What kind of devices does it specialize in emulating
Retro consoles (up to PSX/Saturn/N64), retro computers, arcade machines.
Note: the N64 core is very hacky and is not full FPGA - Its a hybrid core.
>Tardproof explanation for why I'm buying a bunch of individual parts instead of a whole product
Because it's not a product. It's an open source project which is running on a board meant for educational purposes. You have to get the board from the company than makes it (Terasic), and then you can get optional add-on pieces if you want them.
>guide on how to assemble it all
You just connect the shit together like Legos.
>non-bias price estimate and what "going for a full sandwich" means vs going barebones
Just under $300 for the full sandwich assuming that you're getting the add-on pieces from AliExpress. If you know how to solder you could just source the parts and build it yourself for cheaper (not including the board from Terasic which is $225).
The "full sandwich" means the DE10 Nano board from Terasic + a ran module, USB hub, fan, digital or analogue I/O board inside of a small case that kinda looks like an ice cream sandwich.
Bare bones means just the DE10 Nano and the ram module. Some cores require the ram module but not all do.
>FPGA is programmed to copy the physical circuit of the original hardware
for most systems, isn't it only reverse engineered approximations of their functionality?
It depends on the implementation but in a lot of cases chips are decapped and examined through a microscope and then recreated in the FPGA. But yes, there are some cores which don't care for accuracy like the original TMNT core.
The MiSTer is actually a bluepill. Don't take it.
NTA but thanks anon!
Samegay
You get to buy Mister. You don't get to buy free emulators, and vintage gaming is all about doing a a buying and getting excited for next buying
did you think we play games? lol
>You don't get to buy free emulators
The cores are free, dumbass. Whether it's a MiSTer, a PC or a phone you still have to pay for whatever device you emulate on.
>gaming is all about doing a a buying and getting excited for next buying
Go back to the orange site where you belong.
That does look very nice
It just keeps getting better too.
It really does
this shit cant even do the sid chip on a c64 correctly.
every sid is personalized zoom zoom
Where did you read that, on /vr/?
>can't stop talking about price
Aaaannnnnddd anon just blew his cover.
Blew my cover for what?
What case is this? This is fricking kino.

That's not how you spell cringe
>cringe
You spelled "soul" wrong
Your 3D printed fleshlight will never be a real girl. It will never have a soul.
Most of us on this board are old gays. I have a wife and kids, loser. Keep your sexual deviancy to yourself.
>Most of us on this board are old gays.
lol. no. Nearly everyone on /vr/ is an underage newbie larper. Like you.
Old gays meaning we're not 12 like you. I'm 28, I'm married and have kids. Hopefully you will too someday but based on your current mindset it seems you will never touch a woman.
>Old gays
>I'm 28
Do zoomers really?
>Old gays meaning we're not 12 like you. I'm 28, I'm married and have kids. Hopefully you will too someday but based on your current mindset it seems you will never touch a woman.
28 isn't a zoomy
ok zoomer
Anyone who gets bootyblasted about being called a zoomer is a zoomer.
>Anyone who gets bootyblasted about being called a zoomer is a zoomer.
Literally, if they were born after 1995.
>Anyone who gets bootyblasted about being called a zoomer is a zoomer.
spoken like a zoomer
spoken like a zoomer
a 28 year old being a zoomy or not is really a question of that individual specifically. Another year or two beyond that point and you're a certified zoom-zoom, but people born in the mid 90s could've gone either way. Just depends on how they grew up. I'd hate to be a late millennial but I'm certainly not a zoomer either.
t. 95 gang. I also have two kids and am married but am not that other guy
This is cope that 28 year old zoomzooms tell themselves to help themselves sleep at night
lol. imagine spending hundreds just to play a handful of arcade cores, and a couple of 8bits, when an og xbox wil do the same and more with better compatibility.
>be me

Not possible. Also MiSTer can emulate up to N64.
Imagine being so poor that you can't afford a cheap toy to play games on and you have to settle for the shitty emulation on your grandma's old Wii.
Don't ask questions. Just buy the emu box and get excited to buy next emu box.
This is good advice. I bought my Wii in 07 and my Mister two years ago. I can't wait to see how cool my emu box in another fifteen years is!
How many of those chink handhelds do you have? I bet you even have the chicken nugget.
Looks like a Chinese DE10 Nano clone has been developed
Nice, I would like a couple more.
You mean now I can pay more for an obsolete dev board of exceptionally low quality? Sweet!
