I played this game, true love, a 90s visual novel that was basically like a dating sim/porn game. I found it by accident on v. I liked it, and I think I especially like the sort of 90s aesthetic. What is the BEST game in this genre in terms of branching choices, variety of girls, different scenes you can get, etc? Not concerned with the story.
This was my first DOS hentai i ever played lol
Good shit, bless DopeRoms
I remember playing this and Three Sisters' Story
>Three Sisters' Story
Damn good game.
The music in this game has no business being as good as it is.
Since OP stated not concern with story, I'll let posting this clusterfrick slide.
I just loved the art of elf games. The pixel art work on the PC versions were great, but then in the early 89s, they started to use more colors and at first it was impressive with the color depth, but lost the amazing dithering that makes the art really pop.
Pure video game excellence. This is my favorite game of all time.
Extreme varying levels of branching choices, which ultimately leads to one girl over the other (or bad ends) are pretty common?
Or do you want one that specifically has some sort of gameplay system like the stats in True Love 95?
Otherwise, for stuff of that era, check this out

Don't please the vaseline smeared DX or Renewal versions
I absolutely loved Nocturnal Illusion but there's 0 choices. Seasons of the Sakura actually has choices, but no gameplay. May Club actually has some sort of game going on, but it's only a matter of limited "tickets" and going at the right time for stuff to advance with a certain characters, but I believe you can have a True Love like situation where you end up choosing your ending?
>Nocturnal Illusion
Based, I recall reading somewhere it's somewhat the progenitor of the galge genre but it really manages to have it's own unique athmosphere.
Wow is it?
And yeah, the atmosphere is incredibly unique. Ends up suffering a bit of the "Imma heal you with my dick", but otherwise each characters stories are unique and fricked up in a way, it's great
Nocturnal Illusions has no branches, but...
you can choose yourn favorite girl at the end of the game. You can also destroy a possible relationship with the maid if you don't support her in one scene.
>Or do you want one that specifically has some sort of gameplay system like the stats in True Love 95?
Not OP but I like these kinds of games. Just a good ol' dating sim.
I'm the op. I wasnt really sure what I wanted, I just liked it but I wanted to try something new that I hadn't played. Maybe Ill try seasons of sakura.
True Love '95 is something I never expected to see a thread about today. What a great game! I recommend Pia Carrot and Tokimeki Memorial if you haven't played either already.
This and Season of Sakura were my childhood. Good games and good times.
Paradise Heights has my favorite sex scenes of all eroges out there but the game has zero gameplay or choices. It's literally just advance a set plot.
On top of that, the game makes itself redundant because the CG gallery with all the sex scenes is unlocked from the start.

You can't really say what's definitively the best VN because everyone has their own favorites for one reason or another, especially with nukige because you willk always think that the nukige that caters more to your fetishes is better than other nukige even though it might be written worse. Try going on VNDB and clicking around through the tags there until you get a list of something that has all the things you liked in True Love '95.
there is no objective best
browse around via tags and CG galleries and see what you find most appealing. I stumbled around many games before I took a liking to devs like Winters
Too bad the game's on Steam now. Feels less special honestly.
What's the plot of this game? Is it basically just a dating sim, or is that a sideplot? I really like the background aesthetic, it reminds me of Yu-No. But is there any plot?
You're a schoolboy who has recently begun living on his own (because I guess they do that in Japan). You need to try to do well in school, or not, and try to navigate whatever relationships you form, and find your way in life. Specific ladies introduce their own various personal stories that you can get involved in and advance, or not. Chiemi (athlete with short hair and big breasts) is best girl.
It's not an "all simulation no story" kind of game, but there's no major central storyline either (that I recall - it's been a while). The story is just a blend of whichever character-specific subplots you happen to successfully engage with.
I went for the smart girl.
