I did my first relic inside Bozja but only because I was leveling my mettles in it.
The drop rates of the relic parts were really bad, so doing the CT runs were faster.

Eureka relic grind (FIRST TIME, NOT SECOND) is *kiss* you just farm crystal then move onto the next zone. Repeating this more then once fricking sucks. I prefer the collect 1500 tomestone and get your shiny bis aside from savage weapon, item and try to collect all 19 of them before the next 6.4 patch vs FARM 10 DUNGEONS, DO 10 TRIALS AND EHHH COLLECT LIGHT.

This, people then got so fricking mad when they learned they had to grind Bozja anyways, and nowadays DR is a huge bottleneck, both because no one runs it and also the timeworn step is easily the most time consuming step because your options are either DR or PoTD grind.
Meanwhile I know tons of people who gave up on Eureka because Pagos is an awful map and is still the big bottleneck with the fricking light farm.
But I'll give Eureka this, at least you can do it, only real issue is needing discords to do BA but that's just elemental damage and completely optional

If you want to grind, there are plenty of grinds available. Just this step of this relic is not grindy, which is great, because it's catch-up gear and this game is better when gear is easy to obtain.

Also since we don't have exploratory content this expac, it's not an option for the relic. I'd be happy if they tie it to Criterion or Orthos, but a tome purchase is miles ahead of crystal tower and fates.

except its not and theres a difference between Skill investment and Time investment. They laid out this system in fricking heavensward. The relic takes longer but will eventually be the best. It is a time investment. A significant one. But it's semi casual. It doesn't require a lot of skill. Raid gear is skill investment. You need skill to clear and get your weapon, but you can potentially do it quickly.
The relic grind keeps the fricking game alive so it doesn't die out mid expansion like it has been for the last two god damn months. Without it, the semi casuals (the majority of the playerbase) will either unsub or just log in to keep their houses. There is nothing keeping them interested current content wise. It's an alarmingly stupid decision on the devs part.

The relic is literally what the moogle tomestone events are based around. They adopted the same system of sending you to older content to revitalize it. The relic diverts groups of players to similar activities and then encourages socialization. Eureka and Bozja when they were current content were the only other places besides city states where you could have actual conversations in chat. Maybe hunt trains if you're lucky. Certainly not random places in the overworld unless it was a location playing host to specific fate grinding for...you guessed it a relic step!

The new relics are tied to Hildebrand sure, but you can skip and the duties tied to it are just 3 trials so trial roulette will always ensure you can get people for it, unlike DR.

I like the current relic since it doesn't force you to go back and do old content that barely anyone does. Only issue I have is why relics can't be the the best when they release because by then Savage has already been out six months so there is no problem making relic the best.
I can see people still progging TOP right now getting butthurt if they get given better gear before the patch is even over. It would break the whole on patch assumption if people clearing after 8 weeks have a better weapon.
If anything it would help people doing TOP since it would allow people to easily switch jobs in case something happens.
It would also make the very real DPS checks easier reducing the "on-patch" achievement in the eyes of some people. I enjoy the fight being tight.

I have not been subscribed for almost two months. I was waiting for the relic content to be added to the game so that I would have a reason to play. There is none, so I have not resubbed. Is it fun to make up scenarios in your head that you can then argue against that nobody ever actually said? I unsubscribe when there is a content drought and I come back usually for new stages of relic patches or when they add something interesting or there is an event. I share a house with someone and they are forced to stay subbed through whether the patches are good or bad or they lose the house. I am lucky and not chained to the game in such a fashion.

People who demand power-grinds for relics are baffling, the only power-grind relic was ARR and that was expressly designed to waste your time. HW was just timegating. "You need 50 items, also the only way to progress this in any meaningful way is leveling roulette once per day btw lol." Eureka and Bozja had their own shit going on to progress through to at least mask the timegating element.
The good thing about Bozja was you could work on other things WHILE grinding for relic, like getting the notes and Clusters
That's what I mean by masking the timegating, you've got other shit to do in the meanwhile and it's actually available within a reasonable timeframe, so you're not sitting there with your thumb in your ass waiting for a FATE to spawn or being forced to wait a day while leveling roulette becomes available again.

Sure the first one is ready to go assuming you've got 1500 or 2000 tomestones already laying around, then you're starting from 0 or 500 tomestones to grind up to the next one. Fastest way is hunt trains, which is still a grind. And you're still doing something in the interim because the hunt train is eternal.

Grinding in FFXIV isn't engaging because there's no real way to make it faster. You just do your mindnumbing rotation like you do in all other content.
In games like WoW there are far more ways to modulate and optimize solo-grinding through various off-meta builds and strategies that don't resemble raid gameplay at all.

I'm well aware that Eureka had plenty of (loud) detractors, idiot and I've dabbled in just about every type of content in this game. What they should have done was tie the Variant Dungeons to the relics somehow if they weren't going to have field content this expansion. As it stands we've basically got more DOA content to look forward to.
Easy tome grinds are okay occasionally but it makes the relic feel flavourless since there's no greater content behind its creation. Even the early stages of the Anima grind had more going on in this regard.

I finished them before starting HW tribes and I gotta say, outside of the sylphs and their moronic quests, I much preferred the ARR grind. Maybe it's just because the ARR tribes at least don't make you travel all across the map, and the grind to max level takes less time. I'd rather have the tribes give you tons of dailies to do, instead of three (max six) a day. And HW tribes make you fly all over the fricking map and HW maps have horrendous aetheryte placements.
the fat birds take five mins though but I will yield on it being fricking stupid when you get two flying quests making you have to talk to him for both

Only thing bad about the ARR tribes was all of them except the Ixal required you to fight specific FATES and if one was taking forever to spawn then tough shit (really bad for the Sylph ones). Ixal later required you to travel into Coerthas but with flying it's not that bad, it was torture before they added flight to the old zones though.
Ixal also weridly restricts your stats and requires those dumb gloves to do the crafts which you can obviously still shit on with the new skills but at the time was still really weird.

They laid out an exact roadmap for the post patch content like a year ago. The problem is that like half the shit they made for this expansion sucked not a lack of communication.

How is it WoW's fault that Squenix had dogshit, bugged login servers that booted you out with 2002 errors and no grace period? Queues and unexpected population surges are one thing, but they were made 10000x worse by Squenix incompetence.
